A Tale of the Sea Witch (Villains) - Poor Unfortunate Soul
A Tale of the Sea Witch (Villains) - Poor Unfortunate Soul

Review:This book was good, but different from it's predecessors. We didn't see Ursula's origin in full and the story was focused elsewhere, as another reviewer already said. The ending also felt like an intro to something more, despite repeatedly being sighted as the end of the series. I feel a bit underwhelmed, if not dissatisfied. Read more

Cage of Deceit: Reign of Secrets, Book 1
Cage of Deceit: Reign of Secrets, Book 1

Review:Review:

Protagonist: Allyssa, the daughter of Empress Rema and Emperor Darmik, isn't your typical princess, tired of court life and feeling stifled she sneaks out of the castle at night and apprehends criminals with her friend Grevik. I loved Alyssa's character, she's strong, feisty, stubborn, and loyal to a fault. She's not perfect by any means, she has a temper and it can be at times extremely hard to control especially when she meets Jarvik. Nonetheless, She is an amazing protagonist a... Read more

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns (Rise of the Empress)

Review:I adored this story, though I wish I would have realized it was an evil queen from Snow White origin story. I would have been rooting for her wickedness, not for her to do better. Regardless, it was a fantastic read and I enjoyed it so much! Read more

Unhinged (Splintered Series #2)

Review:Just finished this second book in the Splintered series. Have enjoyed both books very much. Interesting take on the beloved old classic, Alice in Wonderland. Purchasing and starting third book now, can't wait to see how it all turns out for Alyssa and everyone. Read more

Ensnared (Splintered Series #3) - Splintered Book Three

Review:The entire series was amazing!! I loved it! All of the books are a must read, but thankfully, there are enough recaps in this book that if you had to wait months to read Ensnared(I finished reading the other books 8 months before reading this one), you would still understand what is going on in the story. RoseBlood (Splintered)
RoseBlood (Splintered)

Review:This novel was a MAJOR disappointment. The writing style is great - if not a bit overly dramatic. The novel's atmosphere didn't feel so much "Gothic" as someone quit young trying to be "Gothic". To top it off, all the characters - especially our heroine - are terribly boring and/or underdeveloped.

Also - I HATED that our heroine kept mentioning her "cursed g*psy blood" - a phrase she apparently picked up from her French grandmother. Uh. . .Ms. Howard - G***y is a major slur toward Romani ... Read more

Splintered (Splintered Series #1)

Review:I liked the somewhat steampunk nature of the heroine in the story. It was a nice change from the more traditional heroines in most books out now. I liked the twist at the end but it wasn't a big reveal, I saw it coming some time before. It was still interesting and an enjoyable read. I'm planning on getting the sequel when it comes out in January. Read more

Spindle's End
Spindle's End

Review:Once more, Robin McKinley has turned the world of fairytale on its head, and turned out an outstanding novel. McKinley's latest book, Spindle's End, is a re-telling of the Sleeping Beauty tale, but as with her previous fairytale re-inventions she dispenses with the gilt and florets of the Baroque tale and builds her characters out of earth.
The story is less about the "Beauty" -- named Briar Rose -- than it is about how her family and the other people around her react to her situation in the... Read more

The Outlaws of Sherwood
The Outlaws of Sherwood

Review:Like most of McKinley's books, Outlaws of Sherwood starts off a bit slow, but this is mostly because her Robin is not the perfect hero envisioned by earlier tales. Ultimately, McKinley's careful character development and deliberate threading of various stories makes the tale that much more intriguing and so much more satisfying at the end. None of her characters are their stereotypical selves -- how easy it would be for Little John to be only large and silent, or Marian merely willful! I have... Read more
