Review:This novel, published in 1951, is incredibly entertaining as well as chilling. It's about an alien invasion where the aliens attach themselves to the backs of humans and control them. It's similar to Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Star Trek's "Operation: Annihilate" and I wondered if they were inspired by Heinlein's book.
I loved the three main characters. Sam "Elihu" Nivens grows from a womanizing operative to a married man in love. He eventually takes over as head of the Special Dep... Read more
Review:An excellent book. It continues the story of "Half a King", but instead of Yarvi, there is a new character taking the spotlight: Thorn. She's bascially the opposite of Yarvi. After all, Yarvi is a man, who was expected to be a warrior king but instead chose to be a minisiter of peace. Thorn is a woman, who is expected to be a traditional lady, but wants to be a warrior. The plot by itself isn't actually anything amazing. In fact (like many fantasy books), they spend a huge portion of time just t... Read more
Review:I only recently started reading some of the new Star Wars books and was cautious that they would be geared more towards young adults than a more mature audience. My first two reads, Tarkin and Sith Lords, were great and gave me a lot of hope for where Disney was going to allow authors to take the story. On that premise I bought Twilight Company despite being hesitant that the reviews made it sound very cliché and needless to say it was. To be fair I do have a military background so I may be a... Review:The ending of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy leaves the reader craving for more of the story. This new book does not disappoint.
"La Belle Sauvage" tells the tale of how Lyra came to Jordan College at Oxford, and how a certain important object came into the hands of her caretakers there. Yet, the story is only incidentally about Lyra as an infant, focusing on those whose purpose is to keep her safe and deliver her to sanctuary, and those others who try to prevent that outcome. Pullman's... Read more

Review:I love this author. I'm actually on my 3rd book of the series. I find the stories very interesting plus there's real laugh out loud comic relief. I have recommended this series to friends who like books with vampires, werewolves, witches and druids. Read more
Review:This book was annoying. I really like this series, but Kevin Hearne's tendency to make Atticus and others get deep into pop culture intensified in this book, to a distinct fault. There we're too many of those references, which were just silly.
But that wasn't the main problem with this book. That problem was the decision to tell the story from three points of view, and to spend a third of the book telling an altogether different story. The parts from Owen's POV, in particular, are unneces... Read more
Review:I read on average 5-8 books a week and I wound up reading these 4 books in one weekend. I am so ready for the 5th one. It covers all of my interest including world religion, pop culture, nerd-ism, geek stuff, classical literature and animal lover. It appeals to the Renaissance Man in you.
Buy it you will not be disappointed. Read more
Review:This is the first book I've read by author Kevin Hearne, and I must admit that I struggled with this one.
The story is told through the eyes of the bard Fintan. A large group of bone giants has invaded, causing chaos and destruction. Throughout Fintan's telling of the events, the reader gets a picture of what the conflict was like. Numerous (too numerous, in my opinion) characters are introduced throughout the story, and I had a difficult time keeping track of who's who. I realize thi... Read more
Review:Another look at the development of Atticus and Granuaile as characters. Consistent with their characters in Kevin Hearne's main stories. Love seeing how their powers work and are developed and what they are thinking. Witches should watch out when dealing with nature. Make the right choice. :) Read more
