Review:"I have read Life in a Jar" which was great....this went into more depth...but giving you the reality of the horrific time and just what evil some monsters can wield on en entire race of people just because of a different religious beliefs! Then on the positive side to see the sacrifices some will give for strangers endangering themselves and their families. I would like to think I would be like the incredible Irena and her band of brave angels and step up....
Afterwards Irena refused to let ... Read more

Review:I have read this book three times cover to cover and each time I come away with a new insight as to who we are as a nation and as a people.
This book is fundamentally one of the most important books I have read in my life time and is a must read for everyone, whether or not you are a citizen. The Crucible of War sets the foundation, the stage for who we are as a people and what our country is all about. In my opinion no student, amateur historian or US Citizen can fully contemplate the histo... Read more
Review:I am leading a discussion of The Paris Wife written from the point of view of Hadley, Hemingway's wife during the 20's so I thought reading A Movable Feast would make the period and story more interesting. Both books are really good but A Movable Feast brings Paris alive with the sights, sounds and relationships that Hemingway had with his friends. There is little of Hadley in the book but with a few words you know how Hemingway felt about his first wife. Read more
Review:Good map, but frustratingly printed on both sides. I spent an annoying amount of time flipping the entirely unfolded map back and forth inside a tiny van to try to plot courses on the fly. The price you pay to fit the entire country on one paper in detail, but I would have very much preferred one side to be the complete country in less detail, with the opposite being more highly detailed blow-ups of areas of interest. Or a larger map to fit all on one side. Or even multiple maps, but to have bee... Read more
Review:The story seems to go from event to event to event, (not really the same as the stories you have seen repeatedly in the movies) with limited connectedness between them. I wanted to know the whole story, as I enjoy the Arthur stories in every version I have seen, but much prefer the movie rewrites over the book, which is completely off for me. Read more
Review:I began reading the Accidental Anarchist Friday night, and just finished it on Sunday afternoon. It is a beautiful, enthralling work, which took me across generations and across decades, and connected me with aspects of my own ancestors' lives that I had heard bits and pieces of but never fully understood.
And, the voice of Jacob Marateck convinced me that I knew him, and that I was able to experience what he went through and feel his feelings.
I will buy copies of this book for fr... Read more
Review:There was a great deal of detail about troop placements and maneuvers but lacked eyewitness accounts and experiences. Seemed like a general behind the lines describing the battle rather than someone going through the battle. I am sure it was very accurate but was missing the sense of someone there. Did not finish the book. Read more
Review:I think everyone should read this book. He has an amazing way of making you feel pain, fear, and remorse all at the same time. It gives you simple yet vivid insight into the lives of those haunted everyday by this disaster, that for lack of a better word, we call the Holocaust. Read more
