Good map, but frustratingly printed on both sides. I spent an annoying amount of time flipping the entirely unfolded map back and forth inside a tiny van to try to plot courses on the fly. The price you pay to fit the entire country on one paper in detail, but I would have very much preferred one side to be the complete country in less detail, with the opposite being more highly detailed blow-ups of areas of interest. Or a larger map to fit all on one side. Or even multiple maps, but to have been warned.

It's a well detailed map very useful for traveling around Iceland. I probably folded, unfolded, and creased it 50 times on the trip, and it's still in great shape. The only way it could be better would be more detail for Reykjavik, since that's the only city that really needs a map.

I like to take a map of the country I am visiting so I can locate our route and cities. This map is big and hard to use. The east is on one side and the west is on the back side making it somewhat difficult to use. Also, it is printed on a rather slick paper and I found it difficult to mark our route as the ink would not dry. There are numerous smears on the map. However, roads and cities are well indicated.

This map was our "go to" for both planning prior to our arrival and then for day to day navigation when out of cell phone range. Love the material it's printed on. It stood up to all the folding and unfolding and refolding. When the weather turned damp the map was unaffected. We found that for the most part it was accurate. We discovered that there are Campgrounds in places unmarked on this map and no campgrounds where indicated. When off of the Ring Road we found a few time where roads were quite different than indicated but we also had GPS and Google Maps. If you're "old school" and want a paper map either in place of or in addition to electronic navigation, this will serve you well but you need to be prepared for the occasional glitch.

As one might expect from National Geographic, this map is extremely well done. It is printed on a Tyvek (plastic-type) material that is waterproof and resists tearing. It is a very large map, allowing a great amount of detail. My trip to Iceland is still a couple of months away, but I have been able to trace my intended route down to the smallest, most out-of-the way village or attraction. It should prove equally enjoyable after the trip, to relive our routes and coordinate photos taken. Well worth the small investment.

A great reference for my ring road trip. I'd heard the map wasn't totally up to date, but I found that I hardly used the other maps I'd bought while on the trip. This one was well laid, easy to fold and unfold, and helped me navigate to all my destinations.

We used this on our 10-day Ring Road trip. We camped the whole time and did all the major tourist attractions and hikes. This map was awesome. It shows you were everything is that you need, including campsites, gas stations, attractions, and other great features. The topo lines really help to plan hikes and locate yourself on windy roads. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone traveling to Iceland.

The best map I could have gotten for my 10 day road trip around Iceland. I went back and bought more at book store for Spain, France and Ireland. This map holds up well to the strain of constant folding an unfolding, is waterproof, and packed well. It wasn't detailed with all of the local roads in some places but all in all it was a great choice. The elevation feature is a must when navigating areas with few road signs and even less people. It really helped us where to go.
Bonus fact: its very easy to read. I went on this trip with a friend who had never used maps before and she learned how to read this one of a foreign country a few days into our trip.

If you plan on traveling the ring road or this map is a must. It had most of the points of interests well marked and we found a couple spots that we wouldn't have found in the Lonely Planet guide alone. Distances between landmarks are well marked and really handy for estimating how long the next leg of your trip will take. We found a few notable attractions missing, but all the major sights are there. If you plan to stick to Reykjavík and the Golden Circle you won't need this map.

It's pretty useless if you intent to use it as a driving guide and you don't already know Iceland very well. I ended up using the more practical and useful maps found in Lonely Planet's Iceland travel book while driving around the island this summer. The road trip itself is quite spectacular!

Great map, especially for such a small country. We used it as our primary map while travelling over a long weekend. I was tempted to take a star because of wasted space. There are random pictures used to fill dead space.... Space that could have been used to detail cities and towns, national parks, or trails. You will definitely need to pick up a map for Reykjavik from a hotel or rental car company. We used the free app Maps.me to download offline maps (which was awesome in Europe) which helped us with GPS and general navigation through spots that the NatGeo map was not detailed enough in.
I would certainly buy this map again.

Most maps in travel guides are too small and hard to "connect" between different areas. Having a big map that puts all the pieces together and is impervious to weather is a great plus to international travel! It never left the dashboard of the car on our recent trip to Iceland.

Had an awesome trip to Iceland, largely thanks to this map! First of all, it is extremely durable and best of all - it is to fold up! Its not like those paper maps that you can never get folded again, or they tear the first time you fold them.
We went all over the West Fjords, Western and South portions of Iceland using these maps and they were more accurate and easy to use than the Garmin GPS. Really very pleased, I would recommend this map to anyone planning a trip.

Forget the GPS, if you're traveling to Iceland, this is a must buy. We ended up using it to navigate over 2000 miles on our trip throughout Iceland. Its got all of the major destinations as well as all campsites throughout the country.
One minor flaw is the scale isn't always correct. There were a few instances where we had to drive an extra mile or two to get to the waypoint we were looking for on the map.

Got the map today. Felt like a solid map and had a lot of good info on it, but somehow, the map was misprinted... It had the Western half of Iceland on the front (as it should) and the southern half of Norway and Sweden on the back.. Not entirely sure how that mistake was made. I have requested a new map be sent. Almost want to keep the defective map bc I feel like it could be a collector's item. Honestly how many times do you think national geographic prints the wrong back on a map? Haha
Edit: Changed to 4 stars because I was able to return defective map for a new one. New map was very helpful for trip to Iceland

We were able to use our Sprint phone for navigation in Iceland without buying a new chip. However, there are many places in Iceland that do not have cell coverage. A paper map is an essential backup, especially when driving in winter conditions as we were.

Great map. I love this whole series from NG. Whenever I plan a trip the first thing I do is see if NG has a Adventure map.Tough, waterproof and beautifully illustrated. It is going to be very useful on my Ring Road adventure around Iceland!

Great map if you are going to drive around Iceland on the ring tour. The names are hard to pronounce and find, but once you do, you've got it! After your trip you will be glad you had this map as a souvenir. I suggest you draw the ring through the places you spend the most time.
I will say this about Iceland: I am from Washington state, where we have about 6 volcanoes that are 12-14,000' tall. We have the ocean. We have basalt covered lands in eastern Washington. We have great seafood in Seattle. We have lands covered with sphagnum moss. If you live in the US, you can visit Yellowstone to see geysers all over the place, where in Iceland they have one that is lame. The culture is very different, and I had a great tour guide in Iceland whom I would highly recommend. The barren landscape is like the tundra but it doesn't have the same kinds of plants all over the place. The bottom line: If you live in the US, you can see everything I saw in Iceland and more in the US without having to spend as much money. If you live in Britain, you need a vacation in Iceland (it's only an hour by plane). But if you live in the US, we have more interesting territory close by, and then we have Alaska and Canada. Also, after I went to Iceland I went to Ilulissat, Greenland to see the Ice Fjord, which was a highlight of my outdoor life. It's expensive, but worth it.

I could probably have given this map a full 5 stars, but as I haven't had the chance to use it in Iceland, I can't vouch for how accurate it is, or how easy it is to use "on the road". However, the map itself is great, with good quality paper, good readability and a nice selection of points of interest.

Used this map to drive around the entire Ring Road in Iceland. It has the perfect combination of detail and ease of use.
The map itself hold up really well, resisting coffee and water spills, tears, mud and more. Iceland has a lot of wifi in cities, but not along the road. A paper map is essential, even if you plan on having a GPS.
Yes, the map does lack some detail that you may need on the road. However, that is easily dealt with by planning in advance. When on the road, this map is perfect for points of interest, hiking, etc.
I have now gone back to Iceland with this map a second time, and if you are planning a trip there you should include this map.

Great topo map showing all of Iceland, including roads, towns, ground cover and places of interest. Also waterproof and tear-resistant. Wish NG did coverage at 1:50,000 or a similar large scale of, at the very least, the more popular tourist and hiking areas.

2011 Edition. It is definitely dated but it's good as a reference point. I think its a better idea to get a sim card with a data plan and use google maps instead of using this. If you are renting a car in Iceland, your rental agency will give you a map which will be more than enough.

I used this map leading up to my vacation to Iceland and every day for 12 days on my camper van adventure around the ring road of Iceland. This map through constant use and abuse stood up against everything and was my constant resource for direction.

Has all the basic features for road travel in Iceland. Waterproof paper good for the wet Icelandic weather. As usual will all such maps, some roads are incorrect in places with regard to their surface (gravel versus paved). Just got to talk to the locals about local conditions. Having to the flip the map over to view one-half of the island or the other is a minor irritant, there is considerable overlap of the area covered by each side so when one is traveling there isn't really an "edge match" problem. Some topographic details are incorrect, the contour interval noted is 200 meters while the actual contour interval is 100 meters and many spot elevations don't match the contours nearby.

This is not the best map of Iceland. That's said, I have now bought two of them since I lost the first one and am planning a second trip. It's great for planning your trip but I would get a road map once you are there since many of the roads are not listed on this map.
