The Girl in the Green Sweater - A Life in Holocaust's Shadow
The Girl in the Green Sweater - A Life in Holocaust's Shadow

Review:I've read many Holocaust survivor stories but the ones written from a child's point of view are most interesting to me. Events that are devastating to an adult are perceived so differently by children. One thing children pick up on is tension and this book portrays that aspect realistically. I read it in one sitting. Great book and I'm grateful to the author for sharing her experience. Read more

The Epic Journey of Cabeza de Vaca - A Land So Strange
The Epic Journey of Cabeza de Vaca - A Land So Strange

Review:I have really enjoyed reading this book. You feel trapped in Cabeza de Vaca's adventures right from the first few pages. I keep telling my friends how amazing this story was, and how miraculous it is that he and his companions endured so as to cross the continent from Florida to the Pacific Coast of Mexico, most of the path by foot.

But it is shame that Amazon took so little care in converting this book to the Kindle format. If maps are important in travel books, here are crucial. And yet... Read more

The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower) [The Authorized English Translation of Therese's Original Unaltered Manuscripts]

Review:I struggled through the first part of this book but as I continued to read it, I was humbled by how much Therese loves God - this book has helped to draw me deeper in my relationship with Him and it has reminded me of the love that we are all called to carry in our hearts for God and for all those around us. Rediscover the Joy of the Simple Things Through the Danish Concept of Hygge

Review:Trying to find ingredients to make "Peaceful Dreams" tea turns out not to be a "simple thing"! Actually not many places in Houston that sell blend-your-own-tea ingredients. We had a place 4 blocks from our house - but it closed last year. Read more

Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country
Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country

Review:I really enjoyed this book until the end when she criticized the US for not working to be diverse enough! I hate it when people who aren't US citizens try to impose their beliefs on this country. Why not fault Saudia Arabia for not being diverse enough? Why not any Latin American, Asian or African country? I'm also sure there are large areas of Great Britain and other European countries that do not have the mixture of religions and races that the US has. Otherwise, I enjoyed her thoughts on... The Wealth of Nations (Bantam Classics)

Review:A very through examination of taxation up until 1775, revealing the percentage of taxation paid in America vs England, the justification of various taxes, their impact on wages and net effect on national wealth. Dry but insightful if one reads between the lines having the advantage of subsequent events. Read more

Good-Bye to All That: An Autobiography
Good-Bye to All That: An Autobiography

Review:I ordered a LARGE PRINT book and received a regular print paperback. I returned the paperback, and received another regular print paperback (the exact style I had just returned). I gave the regular print paperback to my Grandfather because it was Father's Day, and now, I'm not sure he can read it because the print is too small.

Needless to say, I am disgusted that my first order AND my second order were NOT correct. What a waste of time and money. Read more

A Memoir of Surviving Auschwitz as a Young Boy - A Lucky Child
A Memoir of Surviving Auschwitz as a Young Boy - A Lucky Child

Review:A Lucky Child is about Thomas Buergenthal and his experiences as a child in World War II. He, along with his parents survived four years in a ghetto, two camps, including Auschwitz, and the Auschwitz death march. He and his mother survived the war, sadly his father did not. The most amazing part to me, was that the author was only about eleven years old at the end of the war, making him one of the few children to survive the war, plus being so young. A great story that I highly recommend rea... Read more
