The Omnivore's Dilemma: Young Readers Edition
The Omnivore's Dilemma: Young Readers Edition

Review:Although the content of the book by Michael Pollan was great, the fact that the first six pages of Chapter 12 stopped mid-sentence and then went to Chapter 15, only to stop mid-sentence in Chapter 17 and return to Chapter 15 (to continue to the end without interruption) was a bit frustrating. To say the least, Chapter 13 and 14 were never printed. Since this book did not come from Amazon's warehouse, but one of their affiliates, I couldn't return the book to get my money back. I did read the ... Read more

A Girl Named Disaster
A Girl Named Disaster

Review:Nhamo's story in the book, A GIRL NAMED DISASTER, is not a typical young girl's story. For example, how many girls do you know without a mother, without a father, and with family who either is not aware of her existence or hates her? Not many. In this book you are taken on a journey with Nhamo as she battles against life's hardships and finds where she really belongs. I would not recommend this book to boys Read more

The Colors of Us
The Colors of Us

Review:Another fantastic book to explain to our African-American grandchildren about different skin colors of people from different parts of the world. My Mom was Italian, and she had a different color skin than a lot of Anglo people, and this explains that also. This is a must read for all children...we are all the same inside even tho we may look different on the outside. Read more

Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America
Our 50 States: A Family Adventure Across America

Review:My presents to my grandchildren usually involve items that have to be shared with one of their parents because I have this funny idea that interaction between them is to be encouraged. This book is going to be combined with a puzzle of the United States. By giving them to the six-year old granddaughter, then they can be passed down to the four-year old at a later date. Read more

The Bronze Bow
The Bronze Bow

Review:We found this a great family read-aloud. But more importantly, it's one that holds the interest of my 11-year-old son enough for him to choose to read it alone. Set in ancient Israel during the Roman Empire, and the time of Jesus (in fact He is included in the story). So this makes for great historical fiction... and great for home-schoolers! Read more

When the War Began (The Tomorrow Series #1)
When the War Began (The Tomorrow Series #1)

Review:Like many, many others I was captivated by Suzanne Collins's THE HUNGER GAMES. It hooked me with its pulse pounding action, nightmarish vision of the future, and most of all its strong, capable female lead and wouldn't let me go. I finished it in one sitting. Unlike many others I was less impressed with the sequels. Thankfully the books I wanted to read exist. After a very average first instalment John Marsden's TOMORROW SERIES is the series that THE HUNGER GAMES promised to be.

Review:I have been reading/singing this book with my preschool/early elementary classes for years and it never ceases to amuse and delight my listeners. Now I see that there are more in the series. I'll have to check them out. The book is humorous, delightfully illustrated and teaches a good lesson about what is truly of value in a person. Read more

Bee-Bim Bop!
Bee-Bim Bop!

Review:My almost-two year old loves this book! The cadence and rhymes are great fun to read, even over and over ("Again!"). And she enjoys identifying the dog, the baby, the other family members, and finishing the repeated, rhyming lines. And the illustrations are wonderful and fun. One of our favorites. Warning: will make you "Hungry hungry hungry for some Bee-bim Bop" every time! Read more
