Review:I started reading these books before I ever knew that one day I'd be living in a small village in Tanzania for a month! I was delighted while living there to read another of these books, and the previous ones prepared me, culturally, for that wonderful adventure! Read more
Review:Very repetitive, sloppy about time, way too much about Bruce and his hair. Due to a computer glitch(?) every word that ends with 'ze' is misspelled with 'se' instead! Starting on the first page - Turner Prize is 'prise'. Read more
Review:This book continues the gentle story of Precious Ramotswe and her life as a detective. The whole character of these books gives a respectful and loving portrait of life in Botswana, and distills life down to its essence. One can really sense the joy of sitting in a chair at dusk, drinking a cup of Red Bush Tea, looking at the sky, and thinking appreciative thoughts about simple things. Love this quick-to-read series and can't wait for more books! Read more
Review:Love any book by Alexander McCall Smith; especially this series, "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency". I fell in love with Mme Ramotswe's sensibility and intuitive nature. She knows the nature and psychology of people. Her charcter is so warm and wise, I wish she were a real person so I could bring her home. It blows my mind that a man wrote this series about this dynamic woman. Very wise man indeed. Read more

Review:The Ladies' Detective series are so captivating, based on the lives of simple, wise people whom you can't help but love. It always brings a smile to see what their next involvements will bring. Smith has a way of including 'lessons to live by' in his portrayal of the ladies of the agency and their spouses and friends. A few words of wisdom along with a fun story and lots of laughs make these books well worth the read. Read more
Review:I loved this book, and have listened to it twice --quite unusual for me. A darkish, historical comedy; focused on the Impressionist era, artistic inspiration, whimsy, and sacred blue. It's my favorite of Christopher Moore's books. Read it. It's better than you think. Read more

Review:This was a Christmas gift for my husband. He usually reads on his Kindle, but has commented several times how much he enjoyed these books. He is a retired law enforcement officer and said he found the humor realistic and he is also keenly interested in the Native American aspects of the stories. He just wishes he had more. Read more
