Review:I loved the book. I was disappointed that this book combined all three books but just because I already paid for the first two. So I felt like I was paying twice for books I already had. The price and the story was worth it though. Read more
Review:3 and a half stars. This was mostly an enjoyable read for me. Eloisa James writes intelligently and with humor. The characters are very human imperfect people. Like other readers, I was impatient at the seven year separation with no contact between the couple, and the hero's 3 mistresses in the period. They were very young at the beginning, and realistically, changes in their circumstances (from heavy debts to great wealth) and growth in their characters, should take time. Well, this is a... Review:This story follows a Palestinian family over several generations. For some members of the family it means being Palestinian but never having lived in their homeland and never really being settled. This was a lovely book and I greatly enjoyed reading about this family, I'm not familiar with any
mainstream books about Palestinians. It really gave some perspective of what it must be like to have been displaced from their homes so many decades ago, for them to always be visitors in other countrie... Read more

Review:Once upon a time, I joked that Margaret Atwood could write about a walk to the grocery store in such a way that it became a dangerous, harrowing, terrifying experience that prompted readers to question every aspect of the universe. Such a walk could lead to a deep examination of every facet of the human experience, and in analyzing our collected data, we would find ourselves severely lacking. Anyone we passed on the three block walk to the store would make us hyper aware of our flaws, our shortc... Read more
Review:Elaine prefers to be called a painter rather than an artist and is in Toronto for a retrospective of her work. This novel is a retrospective of her life, which was happy until her family moved there while she and her brother Stephen were children. Her parents are a bit nebulous and beyond eccentric. Her father is an entomologist who settles his family in Toronto when he takes a college teaching job. After a nomadic life in motels and campgrounds prior to that point, Elaine is not equipped fo... Review:I wanted to like this novel by artist/sculptor Weatherwax. A reminder that an artist in one medium does not always an artist make in another. While there were some good visual turns of the pen the story itself was uncomfortably phony. How many more mother/daughter tales in unhealthy environments are we to bear? The mother in this novel was sadly mentally ill but no one thoughout the pages seemed to address this - most of all Weatherwax. And enough of the happy gay man for comic(?) relief. Th... Read more
Review:This book is about the tumultuous journey of transitioning from school and the world of academia to the 'real' world. It touches on growth, grief at leaving something behind that was your world but being open enough and courageous enough to make your way and find your dreams. You can't help but cheer for Poppy as she struggles through this time of major change and transition. Read more
