Review:another wonderfully sad, quiet, thoughtful book. The characters are believable, the mystery remains for the reader to resolve in their own mind, and aging gracefully is an art that this book excels in describing. I encourage anyone past 30 to read it :) it is a slow steady read, like the mists that gradually cover many memories. Read more
Review:This was my first reading of a Kellerman novel, though I'd obviously heard about him for years. I can't imagine a read much more painful than this novel. He is the king of what writers call Talking Heads, just pages and pages of dialogue that go nowhere. He also loves convenience, an absolute deal killer in mystery and suspense. The characters Delaware interviews protest for a few sentences then suddenly realize they better help him. And then there are the pages and pages and pages where he and ... Read more
Review:This book would be outstanding if it were made into a movie! Really enjoyed the characters involved in this particular novel. Hope Alex stays in touch with Albert Beamish! I really liked the way the booked ended since I miss Spike. Read more
Review:I finally finished The Magic Mountain about our aimless young Hans Castorp, who visits his cousin at a tuberculosis sanitorium in the Swiss Alps and, in a Kafkaesque twist, ends up staying there for seven years because of a mild fever. Reading the book was like catching a mild fever (in a good way), and, in taking more than a year to finish it (I was reading many other books), I feel that I, too, absurdly overstayed the length of my visit.
I read the book once, independently, with no assi... Read more
Review:This is my favorite Christina Laura book. Will, sigh, I love him. This book has already gotten a ton of re-reads (and re-listens on the audiobook side) and ranks top of the list of my favorite romances ever. Read more
Review:This book is an homage to old school Hollywood stories. As his name implies, Archie Bryant is an old-fashioned guy. Starting with bow-ties and suits, he is the general manager of the Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. This hotel has been in the Bryant Family for five generations and needs a complete overhaul if it is going to compete in the market.
Clara Morgan is a specialist that helps rebrand hotel properties. She is good at her job because she is totally committed to ... Read more
Review:The Dave Robicheaux novels are great. This is a really good example of one the earlier ones. I'd be very hard pressed to pick a favorite. I recently started re-reading the series in order, and now I'm onto Book 3. Read more
Review:Trying to read these in order (missed a few because of no Kindle version) and this is one of the best so far. I greatly appreciate Burke's prose. A number of crime fiction authors tell a good story, but can really seem dry reading after a Burke novel. This example has one of the more satisfying endings of the series, which is often the sticking point in my enjoyment of any novel. Read more
Review:This book could have arrived as "brand new" and I would never have known if it were used or not. It was in perfect shape, exactly as the description said it was. It was a great read, and the book still looks like it's brand new. Read more
Review:This is a beautifully written tale unlike any other I've read, which says a lot given I read 4-5 books a week. I found it quite absorbing, and found myself thinking about it when I was doing other things. I will read more by this author and look forward to and hope she continues to publish in the near future.
