Free Food for Millionaires
Free Food for Millionaires

Review:Starting off, I really liked this book. I married into a Korean family and could relate to much of the writing. I couldn't put it down for 3/4 of the book. I read word after word of all of the many characters introduced. I was so anxious to finish and find out the futures of each character. Unfortunately, I got to the last 1/4 of the book and found myself skipping ahead, past the many paragraphs of internal dialogue of feelings and background. I knew the end was coming and wanted more action. Th... Read more

The Leavers (National Book Award Finalist) - A Novel

Review:I wish I could get back the time I wasted reading this book but I kept going on and on hoping that it would turn into something interesting. Unfortunately he didn’t. I’m sorry but I did not find this book at all interesting or anything worth holding my curiosity. I thought it would be more about refugees and how they fared in foreign countries etc. but just didn’t seem to do that. Read more

Tales from Watership Down
Tales from Watership Down

Review:For those who loved Watership Down for all its well-plotted adventures of Hazel and his friends who leave their home warren and journey out into the world, this book will probably pale in comparison. Tales from Watership Down is more a book of short stories, some loosely connected together, some not even related to one another. All the stories in this book are as fun to read as the short stories of El-ahrairha in the original book, but while those stories served mostly to further the plot and ... Read more

The Plague Dogs: A Novel
The Plague Dogs: A Novel

Review:This story is so traumatizingly sad. I watched the movie and I decided to read the book but it breaks my heart. The sadness of the dogs loyalty to humans despite all that's happened is just heart wrenching.

There are characters who speak in heavily accented English but while it slows you down in some parts but its far from unreadable- later editions address this and there's a glossary where you can look it up.

Sad sad story about animals and people and how we interact with each oth... Read more

A Raisin in the Sun
A Raisin in the Sun

Review:As part of my Directing class in school, I've had to some plays in preparation for the scene work that's to come later in the semester. One of those plays was Lorraine Hansberry's classic A Raisin in the Sun.

First, I want to talk about the positives. A Raisin in the Sun truly is a moving play. It's honestly one of the best examples of how good American theatre can be. It's expertly paced, each act ending with a crescendo that begs the audience to come back after the intermission. The cha... Read more

The Daily Book of Positive Quotations
The Daily Book of Positive Quotations

Review:I thought all it was, was a book of quotes by famous authors and celebrities. It's not it has little short stories and whatnot. There's only one quote a day and it goes along with the theme to the story. Alright, but not what I expected. Read more

A Book of Quotations (Dover Thrift Editions) - The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain

Review:I guess I've aged since I first read Mark Twain. I found I didn't agree with some of his ideas.
However, it will do very well on the book shelf at my holiday unit which other family members
use. I think it's handy to have reading matter that can be looked at for short periods of time. Read more

A Thru-Hiking Adventure on the Appalachian Trail - Balancing on Blue
A Thru-Hiking Adventure on the Appalachian Trail - Balancing on Blue

Review:I downloaded this on Kindle Unlimited.

I loved reading this book, at the same time as it making me feel really fed up because I wasn't there, doing it, and now I (very probably) never will be. I was glad I've read Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods, because I recognised some landmarks, even the names of shelters, and was familiar with the basics of such an endeavour, not least of all the superiority of the 'thru-hiker' compared with the day hikers (I detected the hierarchy, even in such a... Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta - Dispatches from Pluto

Review:Not for me. Creeps me out reading about all the guns, animal and bird killing and the plateau African Americans reach socially in the south. I did appreciate the author's humor and can see how many liked the book. Read more

The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide - White Rage
The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide - White Rage

Review:i am only giving this 4 stars.
Not because of the research. It is spot on. Its due to the blanket assumption that this rage is directed to all blacks in America.
Middle and Upper middle class black built an insular society parallel to middle and upper middle class whites after slavery. When Jim Crow laws became too invasive, the fight for desegration began. Middle class women didn't ride the buses in Montgomery, but it had to be one because a pregnant girl or a dark skinned poor one was a ... Read more
