Programming
Review:I fall between the polarized views of the reviewers of this textbook. This is a well-written introduction to Lisp programming and Scheme, and introduces many important concepts in Computer Science. The problem with it is that it is not a suitable book for a beginner -- I don't consider it a gentle introduction to computer science -- and for someone experienced enough to be comfortable with its ideas, it doesn't introduce many interesting ideas until Chapter 3. Unlike other people I guess,... Read more
Review:Admittedly, I haven't read the apparent king "Introduction to Algorithms".
But Skienna's approach is very digestible. I really enjoyed the writing and the concentration on explaining the concepts instead of vomiting up a wall of greek symbols. I would have loved to actually have taken a class from this guy. Read more

The content is based on the unix system and not pc but the concdepts still apply. Read more
Review:A really great book. Obviously not for anyone with experience but for someone like me who is just starting out it explained a lot with great descriptions and ever sources to other sites for more advanced techniques that are ahead of the book since looking for other information is always a hassle since there is so much out there. The book also gives you a great project to learn how to put it all together. I watched a 6 hour video on C# and all he did was explain what things are and what they do b... Read more
Review:The best books on the market. Literally. I practically bought every book on the market for my toddler and this is BY FAR the VERY BEST. I bought the level one pack and the level 2 already. I'll definitely get level 3. These books are the best, most interactive way to teach your child to read. I love the fact that they have just one or two lines of clear text per page to help children concentrate on the words. The size is perfect too. Big enough to read words clearly and small to stash into trave... Read more
Review:Excellent book.
Each chapter (aka item) provides advise and guidelines, very effectively explaining the underlying concepts.
It is very well written. It's one of these few remarkable books that are easy and fun to read while deeply technical.
Pragmatic and very useful tips and explanations in each chapter. Read more
Review:Author describes his view on development of games. Examples from Magic: The Gathering to projects for Disneyland.
Book is filled with interesting ideas and approaches for game development.
It is totally worth to read more than once. Don't believe to reviews - just try a sample. Read more
Review:It's hard to figure out who would actually benefit from this book - it amounts to seven hundred pages of equations interrupted by blocks of text that fail to provide any intuition whatever for the techniques they are describing, and the occasional graph which is remarkable in the universe of graphs as being scarcely more informative than the equations it is meant to illustrate.
Seriously, you have to wonder wtf Bishop thought he was doing here. As a catalog of equations for people who al... Read more
Review:The book gives a general idea about VBA capabilities for those who have no previous knowledge whatsoever NONE.
However, the author makes the readers jump back and forth from one chapter to another using notations such as "(which I discuss in Chapter XX)" moreover, the Author often recommends visiting MS Help site (so what is the benefit of the book?)
The book lacks examples.
A great contribution I found in this book are the author's tips based on personal experience. Read more
Review:although written by the creator of C++, the examples are bad written and not comprehensive. It seems that the writer documented as much as possible, but on the expanse of thorough explanations and examples. Read more
