Paula: A Memoir
Paula: A Memoir

Review:Her daughter has a rare disease that changes the lives of the entire family. The author devotes time, energy and whatever resources she has to help Paula conquer this malady. As the months pass, the author writes her thoughts about life, Paula and other members of her family to share with her daughter. In addition, she jots down much about herself, what she did and why. The book reveals much about herself and what is important to her. This book is as much about the author as about her grave... Read more

The Lover
The Lover

Review:BEYOND a certain vogue, as I remember, for ''Bonjour Tristesse'' and Albert Camus, a pious regard for Proust and Flaubert, and an occasional attempt at something almost-English, like the fussy, Gothic work of Michel Tournier, Americans on the whole do not get on with the French novel, and certainly not with the French experimental writers with whom Marguerite Duras is most often linked. It is true that in much of her work, Miss Duras uses obscurity - or at least manner and formal control - to co... Read more

Letters to a Young Poet
Letters to a Young Poet

Review:I am no intellectual, and stumbled upon this book through a ladies' magazine article asking celebs what they were reading. Elizabeth Shue, whose talent I really enjoy, mentioned Letters to a Young Poet. The book is for the open-minded and the big- hearted, teachable few that possess the intellectual chops to parse and absorb the beauty of Rilke's words and insight. It is both a comfort and an inspiration. I LOVE this book. Buy it, and share some time with it, and yourself. Read more

Archangel's Storm (Guild Hunter Book 5)
Archangel's Storm (Guild Hunter Book 5)

Review:I found Archangel's Storm to be a wonderful connection to the world Singh has presented to us. I bought all of the collection so far and wait breahtlessly for the next. I find her stories both stimulating and fun to read. Read more

Archangel's Shadows (A Guild Hunter Novel)
Archangel's Shadows (A Guild Hunter Novel)

Review:Paranormal alternate universe with sex. The 7th of the series.

This is not the one to start with! Start at the beginning. As one who has read them all, this is a nice addition to the series. Janvier & Ash's story. We get why Ash is the way she is & how she's struggled to keep Janvier at a distance.
We also get a lot of Naasir, which he's been the least explored of the Seven. Elena & Raphael also get some time in this one. Sorry it's already read. Have to wait another year... Read more

The Wrath of the Just (Apocalypse Z Book 3)
The Wrath of the Just (Apocalypse Z Book 3)

Review:three stars for being better than the second one...which is saying a lot.
I really wish that the writer would have gone back to the journal type of story but I guess a lot of people did not like that style and he switched over to this format.
My biggest gripe is that everything seem to happen conveniently for them....so many instances where they would almost die and suddenly "bam" something would happen that would make it possible for them to escape and survive. I did like how he explaine... Read more

Dark Days (Apocalypse Z Book 2)
Dark Days (Apocalypse Z Book 2)

Review:I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is a large amount of action and great character development in these books. This is the second book in the series and it kept me on the edge of my seat through most of the reading. What I like about these stories is that I care so much about the main character his friends and his cat that I spend the majority of the story worrying if they will survive. So if you have read and enjoyed the first book in the series then consider buying this one as it is a grea... Read more

An Echo of Things to Come (The Licanius Trilogy)
An Echo of Things to Come (The Licanius Trilogy)

Review:I enjoyed the philosophy of this book and its characters quite a bit. There are plenty of nuanced questions asked, while also offering criticism that can be related to both the story and the real world. Read more

The Glory
The Glory

Review:The continuation of the two part series. For some reason - perhaps because they were closer in time I remembered the actual events - this last half seemed to move slower than the "The Hope." Herman Wouk certainly dug deeply into every aspect of history as he provided in depth coverage of the more protracted war in the Sinai and the fascinating undulating bridge over the Suez canal. At times the political infighting grew boring, but it makes up a good part of the story of this period in Israel... Read more
