A Stroke of Midnight (Meredith Gentry, Book 4)
A Stroke of Midnight (Meredith Gentry, Book 4)

Review:It seems that LKH has decided to abandon plot for character development in her more recent novels. While character development isn't a bad thing, it is important to advance the plot as well. Robert Jordan manages to write 800 pages every four or five years and incorporate major plot and character development into each installation. Maybe LKH should try a similar strategy- take a little longer getting the books out (yes, I know- a year is hard enough!) but really work on incorporating all aspects... Read more

Apex (Hunter)
Apex (Hunter)

Review:For several years Lackey has been in a literary slump; regurgitating old lines and story threads in her works, believing that readers wouldn't notice. We did. With the Hunter series, however, she turned a corner. Her writing took on a new life, with fresh ideas and interesting characters. The first two books were a rebirth of the old Lackey readers loved, but unfortunately Apex does not live up to its name. With this final tome of the series, Lackey reverted to her new norm: the book was rushe... Read more

Closer to the Heart (Valdemar: The Herald Spy)
Closer to the Heart (Valdemar: The Herald Spy)

Review:In all honesty I was disappointed with the work. Mag's has been the least interesting character in the series and now he has six books...come on. The writing is familiar and that is great but the characters, bad guys, and story just really seem half a$*ed. The only reason for the second star is from the writing style which, as usual, is done well. I am thinking it is just time to cut bait with Mags story and move on into pretty much anything. Vanyel was a wonderful character who could use mo... Read more

Boundary Lines (Boundary Magic Book 2)

Review:Olson is onto something with this new series. Her writing gets better with each book. The boundary witch premise of the series is fascinating.I have thoroughly enjoyed the "Blind Spot" series and I'm looking forward to the next book in this one. Strong work. Read more

Serpent's Kiss: A Witches of East End Novel
Serpent's Kiss: A Witches of East End Novel

Review:Witches and Norse mythology…cool. Magic-filled drama…cool.

Each Beauchamp woman had her own ongoing quest and then they would come together for some holiday mayhem. I thought Ingrid’s Thanksgiving trick was rather useful. “She had folded the red cloth napkins on each plate into Japanese love knots, adding loads of magic inside each tie, performing a quick ceremony that asked for harmony that evening.” Funny. Every family could use some of that.

I related with Ingrid and her st... Read more

Winds of Salem: A Witches of East End Novel

Review:I love this third installation of the witches of east end. They are easy reads and keep me interested. I like how Norse mythology is interwoven with the witch aspect.
Very good books. Hope there will be another after this one. I've grown attached to the characters. Or I'll try one of her other books! Read more

Stalking Jack the Ripper
Stalking Jack the Ripper

Review:An absolute page turner. I dreaded having to put it down to have to work or get rest. This book will keep you hungrily reading every word and take you back to a time where chaos and mayhem are hidden under tight smiles and even tighter corsets. The characters are all incredibly imagined, and they will all surprise you. Read more

A Dark Matter
A Dark Matter

Review:"A Dark Matter" should have been entitled "A Dull Matter." It was dull, duller, dullest. A dustbowl of tedium. Although billed as a supernatural thriller, it is only marginally supernatural and certainly not thrilling. This was my first Peter Straub novel and perhaps will be my last. I resent having spent so many precious hours slogging my way through this book, hoping it would redeem itself and that I would be rewarded with a clever denouement, only to be further and finally disappointed by its... Chasing the Night: An Eve Duncan Novel
Chasing the Night: An Eve Duncan Novel

Review:Not up to the author's past books. Too unbelievable that fairly ordinary people can visit a foreign country and not have any trouble navigating around or with the language. Guess that what makes it fiction. Read more
