Whatever Happened to Janie? (The Face on the Milk Carton Series)
Whatever Happened to Janie? (The Face on the Milk Carton Series)

Review:Exhilarating and Enjoyable! You get sucked into the book as a character yourself. "Whatever Happened to Janie?" answers all. People were dancing in joyous celebration in New Jersey for the return of a lost loved one. What had happened after Janie hung up the phone? Was it then a happily ever after story? Or did it make you feel the frustration and pain she would go through? Had the worry and fright stopped? Had the grief lost it's way through the Springs? New sorrow began as a different st... Goldenhand (Old Kingdom)
Goldenhand (Old Kingdom)

Review:The physical book is of excellent quality. I bought this as a gift so I'm not sure how great the book is, but I'm sure it's amazing because the rest of the series is PHENOMENAL and Garth Nix never disappoints!! Read more

Mister Monday (Keys to the Kingdom #1) (The Keys to the Kingdom)
Mister Monday (Keys to the Kingdom #1) (The Keys to the Kingdom)

Review:My relationship with Australian author Garth Nix is an odd one. My first introduction to Nix was in middle school when I attempted to read his famous Sabriel novel after being relentlessly urged to do so by friends. I couldn't get further than one hundred pages. It was so excruciatingly boring that I had to stop -and I rarely give up on books that after I've begun them. Considering my taste in literature, Nix's books should fit perfectly with my preferences, but something about them just falls s... Read more

Lirael (Old Kingdom Book 2)
Lirael (Old Kingdom Book 2)

Review:While wandering through the local bookstore four years ago I came across Sabriel in the Young Adult section. Noticing the cover I picked it up and read the first chapter. I was hooked. I must have read the copy I bought that day at least 40 times. I became such a fan of Mr. Nix's writing that I named my cat Mogget! But I digress, as I understood it Mr. Nix was supposed to only write a sequel. Lirael turned out to be the second book in a trilogy, the third to be the forthcoming, Abhorsen. Well, a... Read more

Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen (Old Kingdom)
Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen (Old Kingdom)

Review:Originally published on Goodreads - https://www.goodreads.com/flyicarus

In a return to the Old Kingdom, that place we all know and love (and are a little frightened of), author Garth Nix gives us the origin tale of Clariel, who Abhorsen series readers will later know as the necromancer and Greater Dead Chlorr of the Mask. That future is far away, though, and Nix introduces us to Clariel as she was before she started walking her dark path. Clariel is the daughter of a Goldsmith that was su... Read more

Shade's Children
Shade's Children

Review:"Shade's Children" is an awsome book. It is actually one of my favorites. Garth Nix put so much detail and emotion into it, that it was practically realistic.
A fiction book about children living without their parents. Raised by Shade, a hologram. They are living in a dreadful nightmare. Children are being captured and sent to the Meat Factory to be turned into vicious creatures. This is a very scary book, but it's also very fascinating and creative.
Not everyone will be able to hand... Read more

A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution - Red Scarf Girl
A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution - Red Scarf Girl

Review:It was a very touching book it made me realize how lucky I am. I kept on thinking to myself why couldn't they have left her alone she wasn't responsible for her background. I feel so sorry that she didn't get to grow up like a normal child. I wish her childhood hadn't been ruined by Chairman Mae. I really enjoyed the book because it let you know what happened while your parents were younger and how children got brutilized when they hadn't done anything wrong. I really feel sorry for Jiang... Passage to Dawn: The Legend of Drizzt, Book X

Review:(Original Review 3/21/2014)
I love Drizzt books, let's get that out of the way. I swallowed each preceding book reading them during my commute, lunch, evenings and even into the wee hours of the night.

The legacy of the Drow was a great trilogy ruined by this awful piece of dung. This book effectively negates the previous three taking 4 steps back after each previous story took one forward.

(Spoilers ahead)
Easily the most boring and predictable of the stories I've read thus ... Read more

Sea of Swords: The Legend of Drizzt, Book XIII
Sea of Swords: The Legend of Drizzt, Book XIII

Review:R.A. Salvatore is a great writing in my opinion. His Drizzt novels are fun and exciting, especially within the universe of Forgotten Realms when you can get so many campy, cheesy novels that literally sound like a bunch of nerds writing down their Dungeons and Dragons campaign into book format. Nothing against nerds. I play D&D. Just saying that some of the quality of writing in the Forgotten Realms universe can be somewhat lacking.

Anyways, Salvatore does a great job with characteriz... Read more
