Addiction & Recovery
Review:First of all, I had a pretty rough childhood which included losing my mother at the age of 8, only 5 months after immigrating to the U.S. from Asia, and not knowing a single word of English. That, combined with a dysfunctional family to start with, left me pretty scarred growing up.
I read a ton of self-help books, and they all helped in some way. Went to a very expensive NLP therapist that charges $200/hour for about 1.5 years, and it helped me release a lot of old wounds.

Review:Elizabeth Vargas honestly and openly tells her story of anxiety and alcoholism . Not easily overcoming her addiction, she is in and out of rehab several times, finally beating her addiction. She gives inside information of her struggles and victories in the news business as well. A great read! Read more
Review:Having the benefit of owning and having used "Twenty-Four Hours A Day" and "Daily Reflections", I find this book a calm bright beacon, a steady light by which to work while "Daily Reflections" is a sputtering candle, uneven and less bright. "Twenty-Four Hours A Day" is now the one for which I reach. I'm not sure where the other is nor frankly do I care.
Note to insiders: It makes absolutely no difference whether any book is "conference approved" or not. The Traditions were written to prot... Read more

Review:I already own this book and read it every morning along with my other books. I find it very helpful in my daily living. One of the things I like about is that it has a index where where you can look things up in it like happiness, the steps and anger. It tells things in very simple language. I highly recommend this book to go along with the twelve steps. Read more
Review:Have been reading this book for many years and now it's so much easier to read thanks to being able to change print size. Love the fact when you order a book, you get it instantly. Have misplaced the book, many times and now don't have to worry about that. Read more
Review:There are some simple things in the course of life that change the way you view things. They are often referred to as an 'epiphany'. I would regard this book as providing me with one that will help me for years to come.
There are parts of this book that are a cure in themselves "Productive versus unproductive worry" for example. Such a concise philosophy, beautiful in its simplicity. This alone makes this book priceless to myself.
However, the style Mr Leahy writes in, the non-patr... Read more
Review:This book is nothing short of outstanding. I am a huge Mary Karr fan, but this just took it to another level-stalker. JK. Mary's writing is poetic without being pedantic. She somehow manages to nail an entire experience in one sentence which implores me to highlight it while repeating in my head, "brilliant!" As a writer myself, I am greatly humbled when I read her work. It's been about ten years since I've read "Cherry" and I was wondering when I picked up "Lit" if I would still love her writin... Review:Wow, this gal can write! Some paragraphs are so exquisite I had to read them again and again. The only tiny rub for me was there is a bouncing back and forth in time that was a little jarring, like I had to re-grab the narrative thread at times, but boy, there is nothing like the voice of a writer with nothing to lose; they give you everything they have, and Nikki Ruta has a lot. For me, this book makes it difficult not to deeply love the essence of us all; imperfect, damaged and exquisitely ... Read more
