Philosophy and the Meaning of Life - What's It All About?
Philosophy and the Meaning of Life - What's It All About?

Review:I was genuinely captivated by this book. While reading this, I could see through the eyes and perspective of the writer... if you have not lived this life... it can be hard to understand it from the main characters perspective.

This story so truly and brutally captured the truth of a childhood with one or both mentally ill parents. I can't even begin to express how spot on the conflicting emotions and fine lines there are between love and hate. The inner turmoil the main character is stru... Read more

The Myth of Sisyphus (Penguin Modern Classics)
The Myth of Sisyphus (Penguin Modern Classics)

Review:Well, if Nietzsche killed "god", Camus killed philosophy. This is how life works, congratulations, you're now enlightened. The universe is incapable of care, as are most people. The knowledge and perspective contained within this piece of literature, is probably the most universally applicable item Amazon sells. Rating: 10/Camus/10 Read more

and Intrusive Thoughts (Happiness is a trainable - 7 Ways to Freedom from Anxiety

Review:I appreciate the book’s effort to use a scientific approach; however, I found two points to consider. First, this book combines the thoughts behind mindfulness, meditation, and law of attraction. At some point, I am not sure if they complement each other, but, I think the book was able to justify its goals. Second, I think as the title of the book is scientific or psychological, I was actually looking for some factual or scientific analysis in the book. Unfortunately, there is none. All in all, ... How breakthrough ideas emerge from small discoveries
How breakthrough ideas emerge from small discoveries

Review:"When grandiose planning/strategizing" becomes an integral part of top executives' job spec. and the pursue of certainty is ingrained so deeply into whatever system we are in, the evolution trial and error mindset pitched by the author is destined to be neglected. Thanks to that, I can thrive "for years" as a professional trader whose success depends solely on the repeated and consistent failure of others. In case you feel for what I had just written, this book is for you."

A Scientific Expedition Into the Forces Of History by Howard Bloom (April 1 1997)
A Scientific Expedition Into the Forces Of History by Howard Bloom (April 1 1997)

Review:First, here's my obligatory disclosure. I was only able to make it through 3/4 of the book before I gave up. There were two reasons for that. First, the author's concept of the meme as a 'worldview' idea is a little too narrow. A meme is ANY idea. A melody, a phone number, a concept- not just a 'worldview.' Bloom gives the false impression that all memes are to blame. Nope- just the hateful ones!
Second, there's only a certain amount of repitition I can tolerate. The author not only keeps m... Read more

Review:The Lucifer Principle is absolutely must reading for anyone who wants to understand racism, violence and war. Bloom has made a remarkable contribution to both cultural anthropology and politics. Military leaders, politicians, police and educators should be required to read The Lucifer Principle as a matter of survival training.
This book also provides a highly salutary alternative to the ghastly public psycho/social philosophy that has been concocted by the American academic community ove... Read more

Transcending the Levels of Consciousness - The Stairway to Enlightenment

Review:This like the other works created by Dr. Hawkins is extraordinary. His clarity and deepth of understanding makes the subject of enlightenment easier to process. His map of consciousness brings clarity to a seemingly complex subject. Dr. Hawkins is a light house in the middle of the night! Read more

The Anti-Christ
The Anti-Christ

Review:Although untrained in philosophy (as you will undoubtedly infer), I have read quite a bit on my own. Of course, while reading philosophy I often (usually) encounter writings which denigrate Christianity, often times with very solid argument. However, I have never been as captivated by a book which stands in such complete opposition to my own beliefs as I was by "The Antichrist."

Nietzsche's passion, rage, scorn and conviction are utterly compelling. Compared to such bland offerings lik... Read more

A Novel (The Dry Bones Society Book 1) - An Unexpected Afterlife

Review:I was pleasantly surprised with how entertaining and original the storyline was. Enjoyed the twists and turns the author brought into the experiences of the resurrected. I was also pleased that the resurrected included people of all race and religion even though the focus was on Jewish beliefs. Amusing and a page turner. Even the ending was a pleasant surprise. A very good read indeed. Read more

The Book of Disquiet (Serpent's Tail Classics)
The Book of Disquiet (Serpent's Tail Classics)

Review:A famously amazing piece of writing. Bewildering and enlightening by turns. I saw an adaptation of this as a theater piece and was so haunted by bits of the dialog that I had to buy the book. The written prose is even more graceful - moody, sad, funny, and haunting. No real story here, but disjointed reflections of one character who holds many characters in his imagination. Not so easy to read. Utterly impossible to forget. Read more
