Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream
Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream

Review:Doris Kearns Goodwin does it again! She has the unique ability to make whatever she writes about fascinating. I was able to learn many more things about LBJ and his life than I already knew. Gave me a new appreciation for the man. Read more

The Path to Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson - Volume 1)
The Path to Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson - Volume 1)

Review:Outstanding next chapter in the years of Lyndon Johnson. Mr. Caro brings to life the years of World War II through Johnson's quest for a senate seat. I personally enjoyed learning so much about his senatorial opponent; Coke Stevenson and his unfortunate loss to Lyndon Johnson by less than ethical behavior. A great read that flows brilliantly from the authors outstanding writing style. Read more

The Story of My Experiments With Truth - An Autobiography
The Story of My Experiments With Truth - An Autobiography

Review:A well written book with facts and opinions explained in context of situation. This book made me re-think of a lot of ideas I earlier has about Gandhi. Though, I do not agree with many of his experiments, he does make one believe that his motive after every one of them was finding the truth of things. The universality of compassion towards all beings is infectious. Read more

and a Story of Extraordinary Courage - the Medal of Honor
and a Story of Extraordinary Courage - the Medal of Honor

Review:I have always been intrigued by the warriors of times long past. Partly out of respect and partly because I never served our United States by being in the military. That will haunt me for the rest of my life. These WARRIORS did it out of duty to God and Country. At a time when that actually meant something. The Spec Ops Warriors with that determination and grit I'm afraid are a thing of the past. Sure, there will still be those few who carry that honor for the rest of us but not like the p... Read more

The Invisible Wall
The Invisible Wall

Review:Bernstein writes about his childhood in the years before and during the First World War. On one level it's a love story about a forbidden relationship between his Jewish sister and the Christian boy she later marries. But it also covers poverty, Jewish/Christian relations, and the young men who went to fight in the war and the loved ones left behind. A really good read. Hard to believe he wrote this in his late nineties! Read more

The Obamas: The White House Years
The Obamas: The White House Years

Review:I was proud that America elected a black President. Unfortunately, he has squandered his opportunity to bring hope to America--dividing us further and failing to acknowledge any errors in his flawed policies. Race relations haven't been worse since the sixties. Read more

Thanks, Obama: My Hopey, Changey White House Years
Thanks, Obama: My Hopey, Changey White House Years

Review:David Litt recounts his experiences as a speechwriter in the WH with candor, humor, and grace. And it’s terrific. He manages to hit the highs - and the lows - of life in Obamaworld without sounding maudlin; no small feat for a book that was finished in the weeks after Trump took office.
I expected to like this book; I did not expect to love it. Litt surprised and delighted me, and he even gave me some new things to consider. I closed the book feeling hopeful - not just about the future, but a... Read more

Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama
Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama

Review:Author David J. Garrow's, "Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama," is a thoroughgoing, well-documented, and highly readable biography of the 44th U.S. President--and yet, sadly, same-said volume is seriously marred by scattered, however regular, citational employment of expletives in all their fully-written ignominy.

"Hmm...oversensitive," you say? Call it what you will, irrespective: upon completion of this otherwise commendable work the nauseous residue of expletive employment rema... Read more

The Devil in Pew Number Seven
The Devil in Pew Number Seven

Review:Faith in God will get one through everything. I've been through a tragedy of sudden death and if it had not been for my faith and faithfilled friends I cannot imagine where I would be today. Parents are so important in a childs life which this book relates well. We have to be so alert to the devil and his workings every day of our life. Read more
