'Tis Herself: An Autobiography
'Tis Herself: An Autobiography

Review:Strangely, after reading her autobiography, I find Maureen a bit unlikable. Hard to get over her dysfunctional relationship with John Ford and her sense of morality stemming from her "strong" Catholic faith. I get this feeling there is a lot more going on in the background than she was ever going to disclose. Read more

The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il - Dear Reader
The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il - Dear Reader

Review:Of interest, but shame on me for not realizing what the book is when I ordered it. From listening to the first hour or so, it is an eery telling of the Dear Leader's life from a first-person/propagandist's point of view. Again, shame on me, but I bought it expecting a factual report on life in the People's "Republic" of North Korea.
Why'd I give it four starts? Because it's well done; this review is just a warning to be sure you know what you're buying. Read more

The World War I Notebooks of Corporal Louis Barthas
The World War I Notebooks of Corporal Louis Barthas

Review:Poilu is an excellent match with "All Is Quiet on the Western Front". This book is an evocation of one soldier's daily penance in the mud, disease, wounds, and death that was the Western Front from 2014 through 2018. It is amazing that he survived with his sanity. Read more

Now It Can Be Told
Now It Can Be Told

Review:Starts out slow, but then really gets into the gruesome detail of trench warfare. It's hard to imagine what these soldiers went through. Then it goes into what the boys came into when they finally returned home. WWI was in many ways one of the worst wars ever. Read more
