The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slaves in America
The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slaves in America

Review:It is significant that two journalists wrote this extremely important book. Many professional historians don't want much attention paid to white slavery for fear that it will take something away from black slavery or make whites feel less compassion for black slaves. That is foolish. People must realize that anyone could (and still can) fall into bondage under whatever name if the circumstances are right. Other books that covered similar subject matter (but received little attention) are:Read more

How the Marine Corps' Combat Hunter Program Can Save Your Life
How the Marine Corps' Combat Hunter Program Can Save Your Life

Review:Concrete detailed information on how to avoid imminent danger before it strikes. Of course, we don't always have that chance, but if there is a chance, reading this book and applying its fundamentals will help you stay out of trouble. Read more

Out Of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa
Out Of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa

Review:I'm a white American who was quite impressed with Richburg's account. While many reviewers write valid criticisms of _Out of America_, I've noticed that an awful lot of the negative reviews use words like "Uncle Tom," "oreo," "self-hating," "chained slave," and the like. One reviewer who merely stated she wished she'd thrown the book into the trash before reading it is a fan of Johnnie Cochran and the "misunderstood" Al Sharpton. I can't say I give much credence to the opinions of people who th... Read more

My Family’s Story of Race and Racial Passing - White Like Her
My Family’s Story of Race and Racial Passing - White Like Her

Review:This was a good rendering of you moms secret. Unfortunately whites have deemed that white is best. Black people cannotl afford even today the best of everything. We are oppressed, we have no culture or history. I don blame your mother for passing. She was ensuring a better life for herself and her children. We can't know tribe we come from or experience the life, customs and languages . Unfortunately if you are not pure African they view us differently. I am Kenyon, Nigerian, south Asian, We... Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors
Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors

Review:This was a good story and put together the narrative of what happened clearly. Unfortunately there was too much detail about each of the persons, which dragged at times. I skimmed through much of it, stopping at the main points of action. I didn't feel I missed anything. Read more

Everything You Need to Ace World History in One Big Fat Notebook

Review:I bought this book because one parent showed me their copy and I was hooked by what I saw. I had to have my own copy. This will help the students I tutor with their struggle with the subject of World History. SUPER informative and easy to understand. Read more

The Republic (Penguin Classics)
The Republic (Penguin Classics)

Review:Written over 2300 years ago, this cornerstone of political philosophy retains an astonishing degree of relevancy and applicability to the modern world. The prose takes the form of a friendly debate (with occasional humorous excursions into antagonism when Thrasymachus takes offense a few times) between four or five men, ostensibly on elucidating the nature of justice. Well, besides discussing justice, Plato launches into a description of his ideal state along with a somewhat comprehensive anal... Read more

Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets
Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets

Review:This book gave me a different perspective of the Russian people, not necessarily a better one; however a different one. I found they have a fervent love for their country, a deep-seated respect for Stalin and, in my opinion, a strong respect for military action. Stalin-ism killed many of their family, friends and co-harts, imprisoned them, maimed many, destroyed their health, starved them and yet many still wish for his promises, regardless of their cost.
I enjoyed the book from cover to cov... Read more

The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il - Dear Reader
The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong Il - Dear Reader

Review:Of interest, but shame on me for not realizing what the book is when I ordered it. From listening to the first hour or so, it is an eery telling of the Dear Leader's life from a first-person/propagandist's point of view. Again, shame on me, but I bought it expecting a factual report on life in the People's "Republic" of North Korea.
Why'd I give it four starts? Because it's well done; this review is just a warning to be sure you know what you're buying. Read more
