Review:An incredible story written by a genuine American hero. Dick Winters was probably on of the best infantry unit commanders of WW II. An acquaintance was chosen to re-activate the 506th in the early 70's so I feel a remote connection with Mr. Winters. An absolute "must read". Read more

Review:Since it was proven later that Mr. Manchester fabricated much of this story as his own experience, I was disappointed. It still would have been a great work if he had not tried to possess it as his own story and had just presented as a tortured look back at the Pacific war through his interpretation of the period and the people when revisited during the contemporary time of the book's release. Review:My approach to reading One Bullet Away came through my battalion's e-mail which arrived one day with the audible ding I'm so used to hearing. "Marine Officer speaking about Iraq and his book at Georgetown" was the subject, and the body continued explaining Fick's tour followed by, "even though this isn't open to the public, you should take advantage of this.
