An incredible story written by a genuine American hero. Dick Winters was probably on of the best infantry unit commanders of WW II. An acquaintance was chosen to re-activate the 506th in the early 70's so I feel a remote connection with Mr. Winters. An absolute "must read".

After seeing the HBO series, Band of Brothers, many times, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Major Winters' memoirs. Winters' chapter on leadership is especially good. The rest of the book adds more depth and interesting details to his story. While I highly recommend buying this book, I don't recommend reading it until you have seen the Band of Brothers series or read the book.

My main dislike was the narrator. Major Winters did not have a deep, gravelly voice, and as this is an autobiography, and most people know his voice, it would be good to scout out another, more appropriate narrator.

Reading Major Dick Winters' memoirs after first watching the mini-series and reading Stephen Ambrose's - BAND OF BROTHERS, provided a clearer sense of actual facts of the most significant event in war history. I felt like I knew Major Winters and found myself saying to myself as I was reading, "give the job to me, I'll do it!!!" Very inspiring; profound sense of gratitude, and understanding why these citizen soldiers followed the CO of Easy Company into war to free the world of tyranny.

I found these memoirs well written and informative. It leaves the reader with some idea of what the American G.I. went through for all of us. I say some idea because anyone that has not been through it (like myself) can't have any notion of what it was like. I think this book should be required reading in High School so our young people can understand the cost of freedom.

This book was what I had expected from this author. Dick Winters was one of the many great heroes of the second world war He and his men did what needed to be done against the enemy
and their being called into action time and again was proof of their commitment of that end.

I have admired Dick Winters since reading Band of Brothers. The book was an insightful look from his personal perspective and clearly demonstrated is respect and love for the men of Easy Company. It is a shame that he has passed as so many others from the greatest generation including my father. Major Winters' personal perspective of Easy's march from the beaches of Normandy to Germany makes one feel as if they were able to see the trials, tribulations, agony, and brotherhood of Easy Company. If you have even a remote interest in WWII then you must read this book.

Great followup to Band of Brothers. When I was in the military it was impressed on me from the start that my job was to look after my men. Dick Winter seemed to epitomize that thought. He was a great leader and a moral man.

Dick Winters is, and has always been, and will always will be, my hero.
The things he wrote about and just the way he perceives the world around him - as a kind, patient, intelligent and disciplined man, makes you feel immediate calmness even just by reading the book. Imagine what it would be like to be under Dick's company, or his batallion, to have him as a leader. The men loved him immensely and had nothing but praise for him, and it's all justified praise because he really is a remarkable man.

Dick Winters is such an inspiration and an amazing individual. May be rest in peace.
He will always be my hero.

Heroes stride across the pages. The men in Easy Company could have no finer memorial. Major Winters describes war at its most terrible and glorious, exemplary heroism, desperate sacrifice, relentless suffering. Powerfully written and superbly researched.

I actually enjoyed this book more then the band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the Band of Brothers but this book filled in the gaps where the Band of Brothers lacked. Thank you Major Winters!

Major Winters is an icon of leadership. Easy Company has become a legend. My only criticism is very little accolades was given to the medics who risked their lives under horrendous circumstances to tend to the wounded and dying or to the medical and nursing staff who saved the lives of thousands.

After reading the Band of Brothers, I choose this book because it gave more insight through Major Winter's eyes. Unbelievable knowledge. If you need help trying to understand what it takes to be a leader, the last chapter should be on boards in every company!

Winters is a very responsible and respectable man, and his work reveals his attitudes. Unlike Malarkey and Guarnere, his job covers a lot more scope, and therefore his book also covers more scope. A very intense and enjoyable read.

Excellent for those who are eager to know more details after reading Band of Brothers. After all major Dick Winters was an exeptional man and leader. His soldiers loved and respected him. His study of tactics and sound decision making combined with moral courage saved many lives. Winters Maxims are simple things. But in war simple things are not easy.

A good overview of the operations Easy went through by Dick Winters. Remembering Major Winters is an officer so the book is written in an overview type manor, if you want the nuts and bolts of each battle you're not going to find it here.

An awesome accompany to the Band of Brothers miniseries, you'll find bit's of info that you didn't know from the TV show.

Very thoughtful and thought-provoking book. Lots of information to fill-in-the-blanks of the mini-series and the book on the Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose. This author not only inspires by example, he inspires by words. I am a 50 year old woman with a Ph.D. in psychology and I have learned more about how I want to live and be in life from Major Dick Winters than from any person or any book I have ever encountered.

Excellent read. Major Winters has that rare combination of humanity and brutality, necessary I am sure for combat.
Humbling, exciting and inspirational.
Well worth reading whether in the school or boardroom.
