Review:I can't imagine anyone actually able to implement this approach in a real life situation. It makes pretty broad-brushed assumptions that any student would regularly be self-motivated to study 12 hours a day. I just don't buy it. My kids LOVE to play video games and would do so 12 hours a day, but I can't picture them at 13 and 16 studying what I consider important for that many hours each day without prompting and accountability.
There are so many other factors that play into learning.... Read more
Review:Very informative and educational. East European names are confusing at times but to be expected. Chapters on the "disinformation campaign" against the church and Pope Pius XII should be a lesson to all on how the political left and particularly the communist party works with the press. Read more
Review:As a piece of literature, for an older reader, 30 years later I can admit it has merit.
The problem is that because it's a "classic", it tends to be on school reading lists. And because the title is "The Red Pony," naturally teachers (or parents, or students themselves) recommend it to readers interested in horses. This happens especially because there are few if any animal books on the standard "great books" lists.
For a student of 16 or 17, this might be fine.
I read it at... Read more
Review:Reading about 9/11 again brings back all that anxiety from that day. To learn that the firefighters and police force were ill equipped and fighting just makes it worse. I sincerely hope all forces across the country have learned from this fateful experience and will work together. Review:Every young puertorican should read this book. Listening to my grandparents from both sides of the family it answered a lot of questions I had as growing young lady. My heart goes to all those people that went through such a difficult time during that era in PuertoRico. Very valuable information and to my surprise my eldest son (who lives in Pittsburg recommended the book. Congratulations to Nelson Dennis for doing such an extraordinary job on writting a Puerto Rican history masterpiece. Excele... Read more
Review:In "The Children" David Halberstam pays homage to the forgotten heroes of the Civil Rights movement, those idealistic young blacks who courageously put the rights of their people above their own lives. Halberstam tracks their progress from the children of blacks who have somehow found to negotiate with an intolerably racist world to fighters for a more racially tolerable world. History was of course on their side. World War II (where blacks made the ultimate sacrifice for a land that treated ... Read more
Review:I came to this novel after reading extensively in the film criticism of James Agee, who was easily one of the great reviewers the genre has seen. As one critic pointed out, in his criticism, Agee takes the reader into the film, and not to concerns extraneous to the film, like so many reviewers (such as Pauline Kael, who writes beautifully, but whose comments sometimes seem to have very little to do with the film in question).
After reading his film criticism, I have to confess that I was som... Read more

Review:I thought the book was very informative. I had imagined that it would be somewhat "preaching to the choir," but there was a lot that I learned. I read it for a book club, and believe we are going to see the movie it is associated with as well. Read more
