Dan and Phil Go Outside
Dan and Phil Go Outside

Review:If you're a Dan & Phil fan, this is a must have. I'm not -- but... my daughter is. It's not that I'm not a fan. It's just I don't "like" and "subscribe". This book is full of wonderful color pictures. It's heavy. If you have weak arms, it's probably not the book for you unless you reading it on a table. Sadly, my version did come with a little ripple indentation in the hard cover. It's not like I'm going to send it back though. I'd probably end up with the same book sent back to me.... Read more

The Amazing Book Is Not on Fire - The World of Dan and Phil
The Amazing Book Is Not on Fire - The World of Dan and Phil

Review:I love this book. I love everything about it from the way the cover feels to how the pages smell. I think it perfectly captures the universe these two have made together. All of the amazing anecdotes and jokes aside, my favorite part of this entire literary journey was the photos of Dan and Phil's stuff next to each other. Like their shoes or their shirts. They're like a perfectly balanced pair. And the juxtaposition of Dan's black to Phil's colors was so visually pleasing! Well done, gentlemen... Read more

The Steampunk Tarot
The Steampunk Tarot

Review:This card was very true to the Rider Waite symbolism. Other than that, I can't really say too much positive about it. It was about what I expected as far as artwork goes. It didn't blow me away though. The card stock is not as thick as I would like for readings. This is a nice deck to add to a collection or for someone who is into Steam Punk. I'll display it in my collection but I won't use this deck for readings. Read more

The Partly Cloudy Patriot
The Partly Cloudy Patriot

Review:Sarah Vowell is a particularly cynical and yet sometimes hilariously funny author who can fill the mind with imagery with a single two word phrase like "Nerd Isreal". In this book she explores her own particular brand of patriotism and her point of view on history and the world now. The book is an interesting, albeit short read that captivated me and made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. However, to truly get the voice of this book, one should definitely listen to any of Vowell's ... Read more

Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang

Review:I was little surprised that my book club picked this for our monthly choice, but it was a great break to the serious picks. The book is funny, raunchy and an easy read..I hope that she exaggerates a lot because some of the stories are insane. Read more

...And 131 More Warped Suggestions and Well-Intended Rants
...And 131 More Warped Suggestions and Well-Intended Rants

Review:Most of the comments expressing disappointment here have to do with content. I bought the CD audio version and I am actually okay with the content. It's good not great, but certainly sufficient to hold my interest.

My disappointment relates to the poor enunciation of one of the reader / authors, Professor Steven D. Levitt. He is obviously an intelligent, insightful man but the CD suffers because he does not enunciate well. His speaking volume declines drastically at the end of senten... Read more

Skull-Crushing True Stories of the Most Hardcore Duels
Skull-Crushing True Stories of the Most Hardcore Duels

Review:I liked this book mainly because it is unlike what is out there. I expected it to be a bit juvenile from its description but it really, really is juvenile.

Still, fun to read. However, the descriptions seem to blur together after awhile because they are so repetitive.

It found its place by the toilet where it made a fun toilet reader. Read more

The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It
The Story of Dungeons & Dragons and The People Who Play It

Review:I approached this with a little caution as I somehow never played D&D, probably because I was too busy with my comic books and models of the Enterprise 1701-D. David is an excellent guide for the D&D uninitiated. I imagine that if you were or are an avid player, this is the book for you. If you are not, it's a book that makes you wish you were. He builds the world and tells the story of the culture so well that I felt as left out reading this as I do reading about Seattle Grunge cult... Read more

The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source
The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source

Review:Genius book, as others have noted. But the equally genius graphic design also deserves mention. If you look at the book carefully, you'll appreciate how the designers evolve the look of these "front pages," parodying newspaper design from the early part of the century through the USA-TODAYification process that took place in the '80s.

One example: The eagle featured in the title banner at the top of each page is suddenly dropped in the late "psychedelic" '60s and replaced with an onion wi... Read more

U.S.S. Enterprise Haynes Manual (Star Trek)

Review:I bought this for my boyfriend who loves all things Star Trek and owns a few Haynes Manuals for cars. He really got a kick out of it. It's a hardback, so it's durable and the graphics are highly detailed. Read more
