Kiss Carlo: A Novel
Kiss Carlo: A Novel

Review:Just too wordy - not engaging like her past novels - do not care for a male center character - drags out - have been reading it for two weeks and just not one I would suggest - seems to lack a good flow - I think too much information surrounding it all - Read more

Navigating Early
Navigating Early

Review:Hey, let's just give Clare Vanderpool an automatic Newbery award for each book she writes!!! She has definitely got a "gift" when it comes to story telling.I was skeptical about whether or not she could find another tale as great as Moon Over Manifest in her arsenal of words...not to worry, she did! Navigating Early is compelling, mysterious, and completely endearing. Read more

Fever: A Novel

Review:It was impossible to put down once started. A heartbreaking story of a woman who could not understand what was being done to her. It takes the reader on a fast race while we cheer her on and wish her to understand and for someone to take the time to explain her condition. It was sad, but the triumph of her spirit was inspirational. Definitely I would recommend reading it. Read more

Richard Sharpe and the Expedition to Denmark, 1807

Review:This was my introduction to the Sharpe series. Before buying the books I was big fan of the Sharpe movies on TV, I used to love watching them and am glad to say upon finding the series of books my opinion of Sharpe has raised many times over.
This book is set the peninsular wars. Sharpe has not yet met Harper (there is a small section about harpers experiences though) and he is not enjoying his life as a commissioned officer in his majesty's army. This book gives Sharpe just the kind of ad... Read more

English Passengers
English Passengers

Review:Told from several points of view--each a believable voice--the novel brings history to life. The condescending attitudes of the British toward (and their outrageous treatment of) the aborigines, a smuggling ship, a vicar in search of the Garden of Eden, and a doctor who theorizes about racial characteristics are all skillfully brought together to make a rollicking good read.
