Review:Carrson V: "It scares me to think that people could have so much hate in there heart. I don't think the Nazis should ever come back unless they figure out that we are all the same. Maybe they need to pay better attention in school." Read more
Review:This book rapidly became one of my favorite books of all time. With its colorful characters, suspense filled plot, exciting historical background, and romantic twist, it's a definite must-read. I've already read this book three times (unusual for me) and every time, I find myself on the edge of my seat even though I already know what's going to happen. Mara brings this book to life with her sassy attitude, bravery, and strong ambitions to rise from a slave girl to the wife of a lord. Eloise Jarv... Read more
Review:Eleven-year-old Elijah Freeman could talk up a storm, had a generous heart, did well in school, and had a fantastic throwing arm. But he was also gullible and took fright easily, running and screaming like a madman when spooked, especially by snakes. His parents, former slaves who had escaped to Canada, often took comfort in the fact that Elijah was born into freedom rather than slavery given his "fragile" nature, as they called it. In fact, Elijah was the first child born into freedom in Bux... Read more
Review:One of my tutoring students bought this book for me because her 4th grade teacher read it to the class, and she loved it. Now the book has one more fan: me! We each had our own copy of the book and set reading goals for each lesson. My student couldn't wait to share her thoughts with me and even put sticky notes to mark places where she wanted to share her thoughts about a particular part. This book was clearly above her reading level, but she rose to the occasion because the story is that g... Read more
Review:Lynn Kurland has come up with a unique plot: dreamy American female inherits a 13th century castle as well as its handsome "knight-in-shining armor" ghost. Ms Kurland allows her hero ghost to have a sense of humor which he displays by creating illusions so that he can joust or swordplay for exercise, appearing to unsuspecting humans in blue jeans and a Raiders sweatshirt, driving a Jag, or critiquing NFL games he watches on TV. His companion ghosts help enliven the plot. Add attempted kidna... Read more
Review:Peter Matthiesen's title comes from an apocryphal version of the Crucifixion story. Where in the Bible Christ promises the repentant thief hanging on the cross beside him, 'Thou shalt be with me this day in Paradise,' in this version "Christ shakes his head in pity, saying, 'You are in Paradise RIGHT NOW'." Strange to think that the extermination camp at Auschwitz, where Matthiesen's novel is set, could ever be thought of as Paradise; did not John Paul II, the first Polish Pope, call this site G... Review:The story I read was Soldier's Heart. The character is Charley. It takes place in a field were they have the battle. Charley was a kid who thought the Civil War was going to be fun. He lied about his age and goes into the war. When the soldier's got there Charley knew it wasn't going to be fun at all for him. This book is historical fiction.
One of the events takes place in the story is when the soldiers got there Charley had to be in the front and 20 other people were up front with him. Wh... Read more

Review:My first grader and I are really enjoying these books. He either reads them to me or I read them to him. We literally laugh out loud at that hysterical horse Liberty. My son now plays a game with his little sister called "rushing into history". They yell "rush, rush, rushing into history" and my son calls out a year and a location. They then pretend they are in that time. I am currently playing the role of King George. I highly recommend these books. These books are a great way to teach ... Read more
Review:This series reminds me of Magic School Bus series except its for history. Regardless of your like or dislike for Rush Limbaugh this series is great and historically accurate, it doesn't push any politics. My kids (15, 13 and 11) love it including my boys which is a solid win when I can pull them away from gaming! Read more
