The Official Story of the Abbey Road years 1962-1970
The Official Story of the Abbey Road years 1962-1970

Review:Mark Lewisohn has put together a phenomenal and very detailed Anthology of the Bealtes recorded music. The day to day "logs" of the recording sessions shows how the Beatles progressed through their career and how they eventually took much more control of the way thing were done in the studio. A great read for Beatle fanatics. Read more

The 50th Law
The 50th Law

Review:The 50th Law is a focused and personal supplement to Greene's earlier 48 Laws of Power. Although Greene has not had the experience of whispering advice into the ears of world leaders, he understands and writes very well about the realities of succeeding in the corporeal world. I consider Robert Greene a modern day Niccolo Machiavelli and these two works are modern versions of "The Prince". Read more

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help

Review:I should preface this with a confession. I love Amanda Palmer! I was hoping for great things.

Whilst the book couldn't live up to my ridiculous expectations it was a great read. It details not only her music and life but also makes some important points about art, connection and self worth. I highly recommended it. Read more

Review:If you have ever seen Lindsey perform via Youtube or live in concert, this book provides a glimpse into her beginnings, her roots, and her passion. Book + Online Video (Beginning Ukulele Songs) - Learn to Play Ukulele the Easy Way

Review:After trying to teach myself ukulele with another book, I saw this one recommended on Amazon and bought it. It was very helpful, especially the first accompanying videos: it is much easier to learn chords and strums with a video rather than a book. It's true you'll learn 21 songs, but the first few will only use a single chord. (Not a knock on the book - just a heads-up.) The first chapter of the book also gives good advice about practicing, and would apply to just about any new endeavor.Read more

The Most Important Rap Song From Every Year Since 1979
The Most Important Rap Song From Every Year Since 1979

Review:Idiosyncratic, seemingly encyclopedic, this was a great way for me, an old white guy, to fill in the gaps in my knowledge of the evolution of the various genres and artists. Highly recommend also watching "Straight Outta Compton," for a lively reinforcement of the basics of West-East, etc. Read more

Revised and Expanded Edition - Tales of Music and the Brain
Revised and Expanded Edition - Tales of Music and the Brain

Review:Not an easy reading book. As a musician, I did not expect it to be a psychology book. I expected it to be how the brain and music, like mathematics and music, support each other. The writer rambles on and on about the same thing over and over in each anecdotal story he writes about - very monotonous. Stopped reading after part 1 (chapter 6). Very disappointed in the book.
