Review:This book was much more about the authors broad generalization and view of the Southern US, sometimes misguided, than it ever was about James Brown. I couldn't finish it after 2/3rds complete, I tried to push through it. The little bit of info actually gleaned on James Browns life can easily be found on Wikipedia. I'm more disappointed in my favorite magazine which recommended the book. Maybe they owed him a favor. Do yourself one... Read more
Review:The following review is written by my 13 year old son.
I have no doubts that you need to be a people person to be a Navy SEAL; there was a Discovery Channel documentary I watched that proved that. Mr. Greitens, judging from the events of the book, fit the bill perfectly. Half "Choose Your Own Adventure" and half informational, The Warrior's Heart gives you a look into volunteering establishments in countries like Bosnia, as well as a little taste of what being a SEAL requires of you. Ther... Read more
Review:I started this book with the expectation that it would be Malala's story, but the first half was mostly about her family history and Pakistan's history with the Taliban. I got bogged down with the details but once into the second half of the book I realized that a history made sense to understand more of what happened to her and what she was fighting for. Malala is a very bright young lady and I wish her a life of health and hopefully she will someday realize her dream of education for everyone ... Read more
Review:'A Baker's Dozen' is a fantastic compilation of stories from the amazing Dr. Seuss. This set contain almost all of the iconic stories we associate with the master children's story teller. Both children and adults will find these stories highly amusing with complex enough themes to keep the interest of anyone. A great starter set for children and a fantastic "walk down memory lane" for adults. Read more
Review:He usually is good for an entertaining read. This book however was very repetitive with some 50 cent words sprinkled in.. The majority of the thoughts were not his own just what others had to say on the topics.. It reminded me of clicking on a news headline on yahoo and instead of an article getting copy and pasted Twitter reactions of the event. I trudged through the book, but I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone Read more
Review:I bought this book at the airport with high expectations and looked forward to pouring though it on a long flight. I expected great stories abouth the running of the Iditarod. I expected insighftful and visual characterizations of the Alaskan wilderness. And more, I expected a real page-turner as I thoroughly enjoy real-life outdoor adventures. The book had high points and a few instances of the content I expected. It mostly talked about dogs; dog feet, dog fights, dog food, dog naps, dog houses... Read more
Review:Devoured this in one day. Lesson learned..If you aren't willing to feel it, you can't heal it. Repressed and stuffed emotions are killers. No one should live in their past, rather embrace, mourn and purge it through feeling, crying, forgiveness and making peace with yourself. I felt like I wanted to pick up the phone and chat with Naomi for hours after this read. For those who would say, "your past is in the past, nothing you can do about it...move on"..TRUE. But is you shove it under a rug... Read more
Review:Thought it was going to be a lot more interesting and well-written but it really isn't. Maybe I just don't get the author but I found it stale and too self-aware to the point whete creatovity and commmentary was stunted. Read more
Review:Quote a review of this book from 2003: "Inconsistent, incoherent ramblings of mere witnesses to a life which even they had no capacity to understand - just because your in the group doesn't mean you know what is going on in the leader's mind"
You know, as I read these negative reviews of this and other books on Elvis authored by people related to him and/or employed by him, who actually KNEW him on a personal level, these negative reviews come off the same: "Thats NOT the real Elvis! They... Read more
Review:This book was really inspiring. If anyone is unsure about reading this book, I would encourage them to read it. One of my friends (who surfs) told me about this book. She said that this book inspired her to get back in the water after a surfing accident. All in all, it's a great read for kids, an inspirational look at life for teens, and a heartwarming true story for adults. Two thumbs up!!!! Read more
