Review:Ideal book for costume research, character research, and design specifics. I really love these books, lots of amazing images and good detail about the process of choosing the right design for each character and set location. Read more
Review:It is not comprehesive enough in terms of characters coverage. No information about the war between the dwarves and the dragon, no information about the war between the dwarves and the Orcs. I personally do not think it is a visual companion which cannot leave the readers especially those who have watched the film a positive impression. If you compare the similar essential visual guide published by DK for other films and other stories, DK is much much better. I hope the publisher of The Hobbit... Read more

Review:You know what, I'm not all that big on memoirs or the celebrity book of the week, but when the world seems to be a cesspool of negativity, greed and people getting laid off left and right, it is almost refreshing to read a book about a really really decent, genuine and endlessly interesting person who did things the right way.
She made a name for herself by working hard, taking chances, weathering the down times and working even harder to push herself over the hump.

Review:I wanted to like this book, but all the Elvis stuff is the same stories told by many others, very little new information here! How many times she uses the same words to describe Elvis and Bruce is insane! She uses handsome and athletic over and over. This story feels whitewashed to me. Linda comes off as perfect in every way! It does however validate my opinion of David Foster! Read more
Review:Back when I was beginning a career in motion picture development, a 7 page memo from someone in the story department at Disney started making the rounds, explaining how the elements of Joseph Campbell's The Hero's Journey could be used in writing scripts. The author of the memo was Chris Vogler and here he's fleshed out the points into a powerful book that ties the power of mythology into interesting and easy-to-understand ways to use that power in telling our stories, using examples from curre... Review:I have a fond spot for this book. It can be dry in spots and I'm always left wishing that he said more about his own works (although I also respect him for not taking the opportunity to tout his own works). One of the only things I disagree with is the inclusion of 'The House Next Door'. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent story but I wouldn't put it up there with the others mentioned by any means.
This edition comes with a new foreword about more recent movies but I really can't help wishing ... Read more
Review:As it seems w everyone else, I too came across this book after reading "Memoirs of a geisha". While the book was interesting w technicalities and structure of the "geiko" culture, Mineko did not capture me. I will never understand how readers connect more to a fictional character than a real person. I'm still waiting to receive mineko's other book, I'm hoping it will be better than this one. If you fell in love w chiyo completely, at least attempt to find this book at your local library. This is... Read more
Review:Thank you Oscar Wilde!! I loved reading this book while waiting in line for the Toronto Film Festival movies to start..... I have so many nuggets from my recent indulgence of Oscar Wilde's witty, fun, original, and rhythmical play, "The Importance of Being Earnest".
Every phrase and expression is a thought worth enjoying and applying to our life today. The play on words, the glittering conversation, the unexpected turn of phrases, it's deliciously clever and a classic it remains forever. ... Read more
Review:I bought this for my son, the Lego nut! I was originally going to keep it and give it to him for Christmas, but he kept asking for it every time he would see an ad for it online, so I gave it to him a few months early!
The book itself is great. It has full-page closeups of just about every Lego Star Wars minifigure ever produced. Along with the pictures there are all kinds of fun Lego facts about the minifigures, their variations, and even what sets they are included in.
