Review:While I admire Ms. Gay's attempt to share her journey with the reader, the book comes across as shallow and lacking genuine depth. Yes she told of the event that led to her lifelong battle but where is the inner work? Perhaps I missed it because I stopped reading. Ms. Gay if you haven't done so please consider therapy. Review:This memoir was not compelling or revealing. I had expected more given the general reader and editorial reviews and the fact that Caldwell is a Pulitzer winner for criticism. Who would guess that someone who reads, analyzes, and writes about the quality of the writing of others would put together such a dull and evasive memoir? The most I can say for the writing is that it was grammatically sound.

Review:For anyone from a western country thinking of travelling to South America, Marching Powder provides an amazing insight into one of the harshest elements of Bolivian society. Like all good books, it is a good read and also educational. There is no glorifying of international drug trafficking and no sentimentality about the results if a person is caught and imprisoned.
