It will be the great book for whom love photography and design. He has many good pictures and all of them are organized well. However, it might be because I expected a lot, my personal opinion, I do not think he is a great writer. He tells people about his story, it is awesome, but if you want to learn something from his story, I don't think it will be a good idea. For his fan, I think you should buy it to support his first book as well as his passion on what he is working on.

Super boring. Half the book is photos and the other half is recaps of his ultra-bland upbringing. This guy simply isn't that interesting and hasn't done enough to warrant the kind of fandom required to enjoy this book. Give it 50 years and maybe a memoir would be worth writing.

If you want to read about the struggles of an upperclass white middle aged boy whose biggest issue is choosing between a Mac and a PC then this is the novel for you. Horrible book that isn't funny or gripping.

I bought this book expecting it to be a biography. It is, however, more than anything else a purely inspirational tome. Franta is a fantastic photographer, but his camera skills to not extend to the written word.

This is an earnest effort by someone who hasn't had enough life experience yet to meaningful order his ideas with experiences in his life. Even when he writes, "to the five people who bought this book" shows a lack of belief that anyone would want to read his book.

This book might be good if you are 20 and still need to figure your life out. He does made some very valid points of how to live a happy life. But if your older and "already have life figured out" this is as boring as listening to a 20 yr old telling a 50 yr old how the world works while simultaneously making everything all about me me me as most 20 yr olds do. I only read this book because it was rated #1 in the autobiography category for 2015. I'm truely shocked as to how it got there!

It's been a while since I've rated a book four stars!

In today's society, it is becoming more and more common, to see YouTubers/content creators bridging the gap between their videos, and their general audience. This has been achieved through the selling of their own merchandise, partaking in television shows, and recently, the writing and releasing of their own books.

Connor Franta's book has set a high bar for future books to be released by YouTubers.

Usually reserved and guarded about himself in his videos, the reader is given (I suspect) almost complete access to Connor Franta's personal life and his journey to getting to where he is today. We are met with "The Other Connor Franta", the one who viewers do not get to see once the camera is turned off, the one whom only those truly close to him get to know. The vulnerable-yet-resilient young man, who reminds us how alike we are to each other, how we all have the same fears and social pressures, whilst letting us know that it is ok, that you will be ok. But as I said, almost complete access. I did feel at the end of the book, that the author held back and not provided the full 'intimate' experience that the book was described as.

There is a strong positive vibe than can be found on each page, where the author shares his personal experiences with depression, self-doubt and self-discovery (more on that in a bit), and yet always ends his chapters on a positive note, much like the majority of his YouTube videos. And it is that positivity, that invokes a sense of "yeah, I'm going to be ok" or "I will get through this" within the reader.

The author also shares his unique view on the world, taking the reader into his creative and inquisitive mind, that leaves the reader thinking about what he has said, and taking on a new appreciation for life, and the wonders that it holds. Everything from society's obsession with our phones, to the struggles of early adulthood and responsibility is examined, explored, and left with an infectious positivity (as you may have guessed, there is a lot of positivity in this book).

The most touching moments in the book, are where the author is honest with the reader. Most noticeably, his own coming out story, dealing with loneliness, dating and High School experience, that I am almost certain will resonate with the majority of his viewers.

Throughout the book, the reader is treated to samples of the author's creativity through photography (and indeed, a topic that is discussed in length in the book). I myself found myself admiring these photos, wishing that my own were just 1/10 as good as the author's are! Also, there are lovely little 'Interlude' chapters, where the author retells a small story, whether it be a memory, his love for coffee, or his impressive charity work. They serve as a refreshing break from each chapter, that reveal a little bit more about the author, without going into great detail. As a more personal touch, there are childhood photos of the author and his family, along with his caring, loving side that is evident in a piece of homework: "When a I grow up I want to be a doctor because I want to help people".

However, there were a couple of issues that I did notice through the book, one of which was consistency. There were a couple of chapters that I thought were repeating themselves, and did not add much to the book. Another issue was the chronological order. Whilst it starts out fine, it does lose it's way nearing the end of the book, and it seemed as if the publisher was pushing for more chapters, when there were no more to write, which resulted in overlapping and doubling back nearing the end. Some chapters should have been combined together to provide a more consistency to the reading experience. And I feel that the author's love/hate relationship with social media (that is how it came across) could have been placed together in one chapter, rather than spread out.

As I say in the second paragraph, YouTubers/content creators are branching out into different industries, which is a wonderful thing. However, it does limit the people who will like, buy, read and rate their books, to their viewing audience and to their age demographic. Unless you have heard of the author, or familiar with his work (I make the same point in my review on Grace Helbig's book), then there is a chance that these books will not be to your taste. I would suggest watching the author's videos, and becoming familiar with the work, prior to purchasing the book.*

Overall, a beautifully presented book, that is heartfelt-yet-positive; thought provoking-yet-inspirational; honest-yet-comforting. I truly enjoyed reading this debut work, and should the author wish to write another book in a few years, I certainly will not complain and anticipate it greatly!

*Update: Having thought about it more, I realised that this point can be applied to all authors. With every new book that is released, a reader is introduced to a new world, to a new person, to new ways of thinking, and be inspired by new ideas. We, the readers, never know things about the author, their lives or may not know their work very well, however that does not mean we cannot enjoy the book before us.

Reading this memoir made me wish I was Connor Franta. Because, man, would it be nice if the most challenging thing I'd ever experienced in life was falling out of bed when I was 8 and ending up with a tiny scar above my eyebrow that no one notices until I point it out. Oh, and his brother called him fat one time. Such a rough life. I'm not saying that only people with depressing lives should be allowed to write memoirs. I am saying that I don't see the point in writing a memoir in which all you talk about is how everything has always worked out perfectly for you and your family and friends have never been anything less than 100% supportive. Look at that. It took me one sentence to tell you all what he rambled about for 200 pages. See how much time I just saved you!

Truly awful writing. Such a great channel. Such a poorly written / edited book. The construction and lexicon is that of a 12 year old. The text is made up of meaningless observations, with trite lessons delivered by each chapter. Very disappointed.

Connor Franta is one of my inspirations. As much as I'd love to say his personal journey - his struggles with image and sexuality - hit close to home, I would be lying. Connor's voice is what I love. His energy, his creativeness, his humour, his lively, bubbly personality inspires me every time I watch one of his videos. And I am probably one of millions around the world with this to say but Connor just gets it - being a kid, being a teenager, the hell of high school, the struggles of independence. Maybe that seems a little silly to say but I've seen countless generic bloggers with their fake smiles plastered on and nothing new to offer to the world. Connor is fresh and open, he's honest in a casual way with none of the fake bullshitty drama stuff. His style is open and frivolous but raw - and his book is exactly the same.

I am not going to sit here and pretend that this book was written gold, however. I can tell you right now that the simple and casual writing isn't going to cut if for some of the critics - and I understand that, honestly. But for me it works. Every word is Connor's word. You can hear him reading it to himself exactly as its written on the page. It's quirky and fun but more importantly: creative, clever and thoroughly, heart-warmingly inspirational. I've taken a lot out of reading this book, and I am sure a lot people will too.

The photos and the clippings were such a nice touch. I loved the way they tied into the story, and really complemented it. It bought out Connor's creative side exactly to point and helped create a break between the longer chapters.

So if you haven't seen a video of Connor's, go watch a few now. Go on! You can come back and give this a go straight afterwards, I promise you won't be disappointed. Promise.

Really 3.5 stars but I will round up. I prefer actual books to online or audiobooks but I decided to use one of my Audible credits on this book because of curiosity and the ability to get it for free, since I wasn't about pay 10.00 to scratch that itch.

I seen a couple of this precocious kid's vid and liked him well enough and didn't find his advertising as annoying as other youtubers promoting their whatevers. Honestly his core demographic are the age I'm the most scared about (the idea of having kids that turn into girls going through puberty- scarier than any scary movie)

It's not the best book I've ever read or really "listened to" but it was far from bad or so boring that I didn't finish listening, in fact I was a bit surprised at how eloquent, intelligent, and grounded he "seemed". The author actually read his own book and although he wasn't the best reader, I at least liked his voice and he only sounded robotic once in a while, so it was mostly calming and easy to listen and multi-task to.

What I liked: The anectodal quirky stories, some of his advice and perspective, the fact that it took only 3 hours to go through
What I disliked: the random facts I cared nothing about <I swear one chapter was just him listing adjectives about himself and his family

and ESPECIALLY the advice he gave at the end of the chapter. I get it's important for kids to have dreams, but if I thought he got where he got because of just luck, good looks, or because he just wanted it and it came easy, I'd buy a book from a "real author". I'm sure that stuff helped but he obviously had the talent, and whatevers you call it to be one of the few minuscule percentage of people that soared when they aimed high instead of falling hard like 98% of the whoevers that took that risk as well.

That being said, I was surprised at how uplifting and on point some of his advice was. It honestly made me raise an eyebrow and wonder if he had any help bu I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume he is speaking his own truth in the book and the reason he's so grounded is due to good parenting and character. If he did write that book on his own and he keeps his positive but realistic perspective I'm sure he will succeed in whatever other endeavors he chooses to pursue because his talent is enough to keep him employable after his adorable boyish good looks and star fades.

Did I like the book? Surprisingly yes (considering I'm twice-prob more of the age of it's core audience)
Would have I bought it if it wasn't technically free? Probably not.
Would I read another Youtuber book? Only if I know I'm not wasting my time and money, although I don't mind that young girls spend dough on them because at least they're reading. I just can't afford to waste my stuff on frivolous expenses like them unfortunately.
Will it stand the test of time? I will keep in my library to read to a future daughter if I have one I guess.

I read this book in a matter of two days. Connor Franta has been an inspiration to me for years and I was so excited to read his book. It was a good read and offered a nice glimpse into his life growing up into the great young man he is today. For anyone who likes Connor's youtube videos, you will probably enjoy this read. I bought this book around a year ago, seeing it in Barnes and Noble. The first day I picked it up and started reading it, I couldn't put it down. This is a very well written book Connor published and I think everyone should get a chance to read it sometime. There are many childhood stories shared, stories of the present, and many beautiful pictures he has taken over the years. If you do end up purchasing the book, look for the chapter named "Levels of Friendship", its one of my favorite chapters in the book!

I can't believe there's only a few hundred reviews on this book. gah. It's too awesome to be ignored. ANYWAYS, this book came to me at the perfect time. I'm at the stage in life where: I'm 24 and I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Connor's personal experience gave me a lot of insight into my own life; I had a lot of those "holy crap!!" moments that helped me to see that I too am a content creator and it's time to shift gears--I hope to inspire the world like Connor inspired me. I may just have to read this book again. It's mind-blowing. Read it, read it now!!

One of the better books in the YouTuber autobiography/ "my story" genre (it seems that this is somewhat of a trend in the community.) I purchased the audiobook version because I like to multitask while driving or exercising - OK, basically I'm too lazy to read anymore. My only criticism is that Mr. Franta seems to have rushed the recording session, which is odd because he obviously takes the time to make his videos look and sound good.

I really loved this book. I felt a lot of commonality with his upbringing and personal struggles as a young person. Connor opens up in a very vulnerable way that you might not expect given his "on air" personality. Thoughtfully and insightfully written, this is a book that will undoubtedly inspire others to pursue their passions, while still remaining humble in the light of fame and success.
I'm glad he branched out of YouTube to write this very positive account of his life. I enjoyed being uplifted by it - hope you will too.

I love this book.Connor talks about his high school memories, how he struggled with his personality.Connor in conflict with himself.Connor doesn't want to to speak in front of everyone while a part of him wants to say what he feels. He talks about his ''disease'' not much FOMO.Connor talks about how people don't understand his job.Being a Youtuber and how they don't understand what it really is.The book is full of things you didn't know about Connor even if you are a super fan

I finished the book in four and a half hours and I honestly felt like in another world during that time. I laughed and I cried a lot and being a Connor Franta fan it was so interesting finding out what has been going on in his mind over the years. He is such a wise person at such a young age and I felt like I didn't just learn a ton about him but also about life and struggles of growing up. This book's targe are mostly teens but i am convinced that people of all age can be inspired by his writing and his photography, no matter if you're a die hard fan or if you've never heard of him before. If I could give this book more than five stars I genuinely would. I can't wait for more.

I don't know why I thought this was being to be bad! Maybe it was because I didn't really like Zoe and Grace's books. This book was beautiful written and it had gorgeous pictures to go with the beautiful writing. Probably the best book I've read by a youtuber yet.

OK, so I'm writing this review because I feel the need to describe my sentiments on this poorly written book. In my opinion, it seemed like he just right clicked on every word and chose the most complicated synonym. Additionally, there's an example in the book where he said that he was in an auditorium. The next sentence had him describing the auditorium as "an indoor theater of sorts". That's bad syntax. Of course an auditorium looks like a theater. You don't have to describe common sense to me. I just think it's very interesting that this book is rated five stars on here, but I believe it's just because of his dedicated fan base and their lack of vocabulary. I bought this book in the $5 dollar section at Barnes and Noble and I'm glad I did not pay the $17 MSRP. Bye connor

Hi Connor. I hope you read this or this message gets to your notice somehow.
I can't review this book because I haven't read it. You know why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT AVAILABLE IN INDIA.
I am a huge, huge fan! And it sucks to be not able to read a memoir of one of those few people I highly admire, adore and look up to in life. I really hope you would consider launching it in India (New Delhi) at a decent price (Not more than Rs. 350).
Kindly consider.

Anyway, the book looks great. Can't wait to read it :D
I love youuuuuuu!

Wow, this is what I get for reading a book written by an entitled 22 year old Caucasian kid with a doctor daddy. His degree of sheltered goes off the charts so high that it is in orbit. While his sociological insights are no wrong or his experiences invalid, they are not meaty enough to write a memoir about. For instance, his description on an adolescent's dilemma of "imaginary audience" is great, yet he isn't the first one to have discovered this post high school. His chapter 'High School is Weird" (great philosophical title there buddy) explains how he tried to fit in and even rebelled by staying out late one some school nights, failing few tests and-GASP- getting a couple speeding tickets! My favorite is how he moved to another school and, while he felt pressured to not take art classes or be in plays, everyone was intrigued and obsessed with him and he was instantly accepted. Excuse me while I stifle my tears. Overall, its an easy and pleasant read (I'm almost done). The audience should be young adult (middle/high schoolers and 1st year college kids) where they get advice from this intelligent 22 year old. Even his vocabulary is meant for that population. Stick with the Vlog. (Yes, I admit its my fault for picking up the book but the description made me assume the book would be written by someone more worldly, experienced or who has faced more opposition and/or obstacles).

I'm a big fan of Connor's YouTube channel, so I decided to purchase this book. Big mistake. It is so terribly written that it actually makes me cringe and roll my eyes. It's like he's trying too hard to be eloquent and descriptive but it doesn't work. He gives advice that I do believe would be good for a 13-15 year old but as a 22 year old, it's nothing I haven't heard before. The photos are incredibly beautiful if somewhat random. The design is also simplistic and nicely made but I just can't love this book. It's typical advice like follow your dreams and do what you love and don't let others hold you back. Connor makes great videos and should just stick to that.

Absolutely love this book! Its a short biagraphy by the one and only youtube sensation, Connor Franta. Not only is it great to read, but there are also many lessons anyone can relate to about the struggles of growing up. I highly recommend it.

I got this book because I was just a fan of Connor Franta, but honestly I would've read it regardless. His point of view on life is amazing. His advice and experiences provides a universal message of a wonderful take on life. 10/10 should read.

Dearest Connor,
Me and my sister (it was her bday today) met you today and you are the sweetest boy in the whole wide world. We are such big fans and it was an honor meeting you. You are so humble and grateful which is so cute. We cannot wait to read your book, which we are sure will be amazing like everything that you do. We wish you nothing but happiness and success. We are so proud of you.
XOXO
ps my mom thanks you for holding a book signing for my sister's birthday ;)

I'm in love with "A Work In Progress" I already love Connor and the fact that he wrote a book is simply amazing. He is such an inspiring person and this was such a good way for him to let us in on his story. I'm in love with him and this book! I have the kindle version and I can't wait to get the paperback copy!
