Too much Shane Dawson... I was two chapters in and I really like Shane, but this is too much. This book is funny, but I would rather see it than read it. Pretty much saying I would have preferred him to do a small film for each chapter instead of writing it.. Shane is the type of person you would want to see acting and not writing the script..

This book has everything! I have been watching Shane on YouTube since I was in 8th grade and I am now a sophomore in college! This book will make you cry, and make you laugh. It's so interesting to learn about someone's life and to really learn who a person really is. In the book he gives a ton of advice which is really heartfelt and genuine, and I just loved this book. Definitely worth it!

I bought this for my niece for Christmas and couldn't help but read a chapter before I packed it. I don't know this guy buy he was seriously addicted to fake sugar packets to the point of having a death wish. His recalling of this is funny, ridiculous, crazy self-conscience that reminds me of David Sedaris.

This book was hilarious. I ordered it as a big fan of Shane's videos, and this book did not disappoint. He was honest, clever, heartfelt, and highly entertaining. I would have loved it, even if I weren't a fan. I related to some parts much more than I would care to admit, and I adored every second of it.

Shane im a huge of yours from way back, this book made me think of my own life in a new way. This was written beautifully. Once I got to certain spots of the book I couldn't stop reading it! Your first book is amazing you should be very proud of where you came from and where you are now!!

Such a great book! Its a kind of motivational self-confidence booster written by someone whos experienced it first-hand, rather than a 50 year old man drawing cartoons for middle schoolers. *cough cough* DOAWK *cough cough* every freaking book out there *cough cough*
Shane is hilarious and totally knows how to make a reader see what he saw.
Thanks for the laughs! ?

Perhaps I'm simply too old for this book. I purchased it because my kids are of the same generation as the author. I thought I'd gain some humorous insights into their lives. But humor and insight were both in short supply so I gave up half way through.

If you're a fan of Shane Dawson, or even if you're not and just happened to be painfully awkward growing up, I highly suggest this book. I finished it in about two days, and anxiously await his next book. Shane is an excellent writer, and I truly found myself feeling his pain (and joy) through his stories.

My wife wanted this book...so this is what she told me to type after reading.
I LOVED this book! So real, so close to home. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to give past Shane a hug and throat punch the bullies. I have followed Shane since the very beginning and plan on following him for as long as he makes videos, movies and writes books. <3

It arrived today around 12:40ish. As soon as I got it I started reading it and now I'm finished all 228 pages. It honestly was so good like I can't even explain it if you want this book but we're hesitant you should definitely get it . I LOVED it.

Absolutely wonderful book, Shane is such a great talented guy and this is another thing to add to his list of accomplishments. Even if you haven't heard of Shane or seen him on youtube before this is a great book and you'll enjoy it regardless.

Great to see Shane in a different perspective than his OnLine success. His stories, while hilarious, are so heartfelt and sincere. Even if you don't like him on YouTube, his book delivers some great stories on his life. I'm so proud of Shane!

I have been following Shane's journey since the beginning and I was so excited to purchase his first book. From the blurb on the back, I expected something more real and deeper than what I read. More RAW and intense; maybe even life changing but that's not the case. Most of the stories were just silly random stories with a few REAL emotional stories thrown in and some had a life lesson which was cool. But lot of it seemed exaggerated and fake, as if it was enhanced for the story to seem funnier or more eventful than it actually was. And I wish the stories were in the correct order of when they happened. Overall, it wasn't what I expected but I'm proud of him nonetheless, its his story and how he came to be the person he is today and I'm glad he decided to share it with us. Would definately buy the second book. I cant rate him lower than 5 stars, he deserves 6.

Was very well written. Didn't notice any grammar or punctuation errors. I laughed, I cried, I couldn't stop turning the page. I do feel as if it ended to soon but hopefully he will write another. I can relate to Shane on so many levels and he is a constant reminder that I'm no alone.

Book looks great, but is NOT for young adult readers. When the book arrived, we flipped through pages before handing to our daughter and all i can say is WOW... EXPLICIT CONTENT! So glad you wrote a book though, maybe tone it tone A LOT next time ;) you have a lot of fans and not all of them need to know about your thoughts on @$!#*&! Jay Leno!

I love Shane but this book is trash. Buy it only to support him, not to get a decent product. Infact, go buy one of his tshirts right now instead. They are much better and I'm sure he will get a bigger cut. This book literally takes 15 mins to read. Do. Not. Buy. Just give a donation to Shane.

This collection of essays and short stories runs the gamut from laugh-out-loud hilarious to touching to exhilarating. If you are looking for a quick, light read that will get you chuckling and spitting up your drink, this is it.
My favorite chapter is called "The Original Catfish," and details how he decided to get back at some kids who kept making fun of him. At one point he's so upset at their teasing that, "I ran to the bathroom and locked myself in the stall. I cried for a good ten minutes and then took a s***. There's nothing more depressing than crying while you are smelling your own s***."
Shane decides to get them back, by posing as a woman online who is interested in them. Hijinks ensue, and young Shane is then, for once, given the power to shut them down.
Shane covers so many funny stories from his life, including his first kiss (at age 21 to a girl), his three year job as a salesman at a weight loss center(!), and even his experiences with astral projection. His writing is witty, irreverent, sometimes filthy, and always inspired. I especially loved all his pop culture references, from Saved by the Bell to Gary Busey to 7th Heaven to even Sizzler and Nutter Butters.
Throughout his stories, his rampant self-deprecation all-but-covers-up his underlying issues with self-image and self-esteem. Reading "I Hate Myselfie" made me remember another book that's also about a young man who struggled with being considered different. Wade Rouse's At Least in the City Someone Would Hear Me Scream: Misadventures in Search of the Simple Life is quick, fun, hilarious, and, at times, touching read. It's worth a look if you like Shane.

After reading numerous Steven King and zombie apocalypse novels (The Remaining series; go read it) I was definitely looking for a light and easy read to occupy my bus rides to work. I was perusing the store and this book caught my attention because of it's high star rating and the fact that I personally am not a fan of my selfie (crooked nose).
This is indeed a light and easy read, and it comes with a few legitimate chuckles from an author who is legitimately likeable and entertaining. However, essentially the theme of the book is that the key to entertainment is the ability to relate in some facet or other to the subject. At it's foundation, what the book professes is true. However, I do not relate.
I was very far from the popular jock at high school, and although I was skinny in high school, I'm not skinny now and wasn't in junior high either. My self image is not fantastic, but it's not awful either. He spends a lot of time (a LOT) of time in the book talking about his struggles with confidence due to his body. I'm not immune to those struggles. The key difference between Shane and I is that I have balls, and he does not. It's not something I think he'd take offense to either. But a guy with balls that was mostly (not always, mind you, definitely not always) willing to say no to something he didn't want to do throughout his life has a hard time relating a really soft guy's life.
I feel like this book is primarily for women, not for men. Shane is very much a confident woman nowadays. A likeable, intelligent, funny, and courageous woman. It took serious balls to share a lot of what he shared in this book. Respect. As a man though, it's pretty hard to relate to a lot of it and I merely found the read to be average.
I have never watched a Shane Dawson youtube video.

I frequently watch Shane on Youtube (to be specific, everyday). And getting to see into his life, almost like it was "our little secret", was really fun but really sad at the same time. I don't mean I was sad that I spent the time reading it, I meant the story was sad. I knew from a lot of Shane's video's that he had a hard time when he was growing up, but I didn't know it was like that. Being a Christian, like Shane, it was good to see that he went to God for help when he needed it. I must say, it was great getting to have Shane for an hour and a half while reading rather then only 5 minutes a day.
How do I talk about this? I mean, I'm guessing that if you're reading this, you probably have an interest in Shane or reading his book. If you want to read his book, read it. It's good. Especially if you like his humour. I mean, yes, I will admit there was some things that I didn't find as funny as some may but everyone's different I guess. I do enjoy watching Shane's video's but getting to see into his life, REALLY, was a totally different experience.
His stories were interesting, kept my attention, made me laugh and sometimes made me really sad. There was a lot of sadness when I read this. But all the laughing and happy moments made the story worth it. And, a little side note, the cover is amazing. I love the use of colour and lighting. Just amazing. Another amazing thing about this book is that Shane got his fans to draw pictures for each short story in the book and I think that's another awesome thing he has done. He is bringing recognition to those aspiring artists, not all for himself.
What I'm trying to say is: job well done Shane. I certainly enjoyed your book and I feel really bad I couldn't see you on your book tour because I love books so much. Which is why this was an awesome idea. A mix of him and books... just awesome.

Before purchasing this for my teenager, I carefully read the reviews as I was concerned that it would be too mature for her to read. One of the reviewers mentioned that she read it before allowing her daughter to read it. Based on reviews such as these I felt it would be okay for her to read. I skimmed through the book and quickly found many stories based on sex and sexual type things that is completely inappropriate for a teenager. I would say that this book is more for adults, not anyone under 18.

It's okay. I like Shane Dawson and all, but I feel this book might be a little overrated. I thought it was going to be an autobiography, but it is just random stuff from his life, in no particular order. You can pick this book up and start reading from anywhere and not get lost. It was okay, but I've read better.

I've been a fan of Shane Dawson almost since the beginning of his YouTube career. I wasn't there for the very first videos but I did start watching not long after. For a few years, however, life happened and I pretty much stopped watching videos on YouTube. I lost all thought of Shane until I was pregnant with my first daughter and my love of YouTube videos was renewed. It wasn't long before I was watching Shane's videos again and I was surprised to find almost a completely different Shane. The biggest difference I noticed, of course, was his hair. No longer did he have the long, straightened locks that belonged on the head of an emo kid, instead he was rocking short, styled hair. He also seemed different. He was still vulgar, outspoken, and honest but there was something different about him, more subtle, laid back, and more confident.
From then on I watched Shane's videos consistently. Through his very speculated private break up with his girlfriend Lisa, his coming out as bisexual, through the pounds and pounds of food videos (I'm not a hater, I loved them), his obvious darker days until he moved into his new home, his new relationship with his boyfriend Ryland, and his slide into darker topics like his awesome conspiracy theory videos.
Shane has talked frequently and openly about his past. It's one of the many things that endears him to his fans so it was a great surprise when we learned that he was writing a book that told stories of his past. It was nice to see a deeper side of Shane, some of his admissions and memories through I Hate Myselfie, and how he really felt during certain times of his life. I definitely think if you're a Shane Dawson fan, you should give this book a shot. It's full of his own style of crude humor and gives a truly inside perspective on certain events and times in his life. If you want to get to know Shane, you definitely need to read I Hate Myselfie.

I got into Shane's content this year for the first time at 22. He has made me laugh tons and made the tough days seem bright. I wanted to start reading more and support Shane, but I was skeptical if he could actually write a good book (no offense lol). But suprisingly, or unsuprisingly (because Shane is awesome), the book is extemely witty, funny, and well-written. He is definitely far more than just a Youtuber.
His vibe totally translates to written word and I had no issue getting through it. If you are a good reader then you will likely read this quickly (took me 2-3 sittings). It was hard to put down and each chapter made me laugh or cry. As an artist I really appreciated the artwork he featured inside and how he credited all of them on their own page. There was definitely a lot of information not shared in his videos, or at least elaborated on. The thing I love about Shane is his relatablility and you definitely get to discover his inner workings with this one.
I think even someone who does not watch his content would enjoy this book, because it was just good! I would say the reading level is middle school+. Some of the content may not necessarily be appropriate for his youngest viewers but that is up to their parents. I would let my kid read it. It's real stuff, good stuff. If you like Shane, then just buy it already.
