Review:This entry in Patrick McManus's catalog is far from his best work. It's a collection of short stories and articles that supposedly have never been published, so it's really just a catch-all for Mr. McManus in his sunset years. It's good; several of the stories brought a smile or a chuckle, but nothing delivered the snort, chortle, or uproarious laughter inspired by some of his other books. Overall it's a fairly solid read, but don't expect it to take up it's place in the veritable pantheon of hi... Read more
Review:‘Andreas Tangen’ is the fictitious name our nameless protagonist gives to the Officer on Duty the night he finds himself cold, wet, famished, keyless (not to say clueless, and consequently without even a room to go home to) and nearing delirium. His solution? To seek room and board in the city jail whence he can contemplate the rain falling on the outside.
I only recently (July 17) read and reviewed Jack London’s MARTIN EDEN. Knut Hamsun’s semiautobiographical HUNGER could well serve a... Read more
Review:In Knut Hamsun's Hunger, the narrator and protagonist roams the streets of Kristiania (Oslo) and searches for food and later lodging. A writer of questionable success, he submits his writings to a journal but rarely gets the story accepted. Without money, he often doesn't eat for days.
As we read the novel, we dwell into the mind occasionally delusion of a man trying to maintain his dignity in poverty. Though he had no food, he gives money to children and vagrants. And though he fancies a... Read more
Review:If you're considering buying this book, you should know it's not really a book, but a collection of loosely related adventures. That was less fun for me as a reader, because there was less opportunity for characters to evolve or for me to know them any better than I had after reading the first couple of stories.
The characters were amusing and whimsical, at first, but by 75% of the book, they were losing their charm. If reminded me of watching Weird Al Yankovich videos: At first, they're ... Read more
Review:Exactly what it claims to be, Orconomics is a tongue-in-cheek spoof on the modern fantasy genre that still manages to include strong helpings of character development and original worldbuilding. I'm looking forward to enjoying the rest of the series! Read more
Review:First off, this was a very enjoyable book. Top notch, great writing, only a few POV errors but altogether the prose was on point, there were no glaring plot holes, the characters were consistant and fleshed out, the world interesting. It was halarious, a really fun, light hearted read. The twist was great. Not entirely unexpected but the WAY in which it happened was very inventive. As a writer, I cant find much to fault it with, so this rating is more of a taste thing.
While overall the story... Read more
Review:Bought for a wedding shower basket not realizing the whole inside would be using the work f***, a little too vulgar for my taste. Beware because you will be charged $5.99 for return shipping when the product is only $8.91 to begin with!! Read more
Review:I wish that this book was available decades ago when I was completely clueless about dating. If it were, I'd probably be either in a long-term relationship or even married right now. To say that it was just interesting and useful, is like an understatement. It was so incredibly insightful, addressing not only stuff that's simply common-sense like don't accept anything less than a date, don't come on too strong, nor sleep with someone too soon, but it also addressed those gray-area subjects like ... Review:There is no book boyfriend quite like Jesse Ward. He will always hold a special place in my heart and even more so after this book. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the drama of Ava loosing her memory and him doing everything to help her find it, you could feel the love he has for her radiating off the pages. It was so great to get caught up with the Lord of the Manor. I still want more. ? Read more
Review:This book was very funny, especially if you like sarcasm! Some parts made me laugh out loud and others made me question if I do that, even just a little bit. There were some convicting moments and I could see some Christians being very convicted by this book. Nothing is sacred, not the church service, music, spiritual gifts, how we act on social media or what's considered acceptable entertainment. It is interesting to take a step back and really look at the Christian subculture and why we do... Read more
