To Die For: A Novel (Blair Mallory Book 1)
To Die For: A Novel (Blair Mallory Book 1)

Review:I'm having mixed feelings about this book. Is that good or bad?

I liked Blair - to a certain extent. Yes, she's a strong woman who goes the extra mile to get what she wants, and works hard for it. When Wyatt accused her of being `fluffy', to which she became furious and adamantly denying it, I thought it was an apt description of her. As she is the narrator of the book, the way she talks and thinks... the only word I can use to describe it is `fluffy'.

I liked Wyatt. Strong, cares ... Read more

Lies (and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them)
Lies (and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them)

Review:Al Franken does not waste time. He starts by lambasting conservative authors and politicians, and he delivers a pretty brutal crush at the end. This is not a book conservatives will like in any sense.
Franken's best chapters detail America's involvement in Aghganistan, starting in the 1980's with the Aghgan resistance to the Soviet invasion. He tells the story of Aghganistan's collapse, albeit breifly, and how that collapse was neglected (Project Neglect). He then tells the story of how Clint... Read more

Drop City
Drop City

Review:Drop City by T. Coraghessan Boyle takes us back to a time some of our baby boomers may remember. We were going to change the world, drop out and tune in or some such gibberish: groovy, heavy man, or dig, that makes one laugh with nostalgic ridicule. This naivety of Boyle's California commune, the idea that if we all just share and love each other, indeed share sexual pleasures with one and all, share the toilet paper as needed, then a spiritual awakening, a Shaman of psychedelic force, drunken... One Man's Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection - Drop Dead Healthy

Review:Jacobs writes an entertaining novel. The ultimate big picture is that we should all care about our health and fitness in order to lead a quality life, but not to obsess about diet, exercise and toxins so that we create limits to joyful experiences with family and friends. Read more

Review:When it comes to Chuck Palahniuk, you either love him or hate him; there is no middle ground. (Personally, I love him). The vulgar tone he uses when he exploits the underground knowledge of what we try to stay ignorant to makes it difficult to like him at times, but the way he creates characters full of dreams, emotions, and flaws makes the connection between the characters and the reader seamless, helping the reader turn their dislike of Palahniuk into positive reception.

The main theme ... Read more

Belly Up (FunJungle)
Belly Up (FunJungle)

Review:Not sure what the fuss is about. This broken, incomplete and peculiar story might be mindless enough to entertain some kids but it did not hold up for the simple analysis of my 5th grader's class project. Read more

The Scarred Woman (A Department Q Novel)
The Scarred Woman (A Department Q Novel)

Review:The Scarred Woman is the seventh novel in Jussi Adler-Olsen's series about Danish detectives holed up in the basement of Copenhagen's police headquarters, ostensibly to work on cold cases. Like the six books that preceded it, it tells the story of how the small team in Department Q takes on several homicide cases simultaneously and discovers—lo and behold!—that they're all connected. In the process, all three of Detective Carl Mørck's "assistants," Asaad, Rose, and Gordon, manage to infuriate an... Read more
