Review:Raw, honest and vulnerable. That's how I would describe "The Mother of Black Hollywood", so many lessons that are applicable to us all, not just those who follow the same path as Ms. Lewis. The ability to be self aware is truly a gift and no matter when that self-awareness comes, embrace it. Own it. Love it. Read more
Review:Russo loves both men and women and savors their many flaws as well as their virtues, like a modern-day Tolstoy. He's effortlessly funny, and describes the human condition with marvelous acuity and tolerance. I'm going to read everything he has written. Read more
Review:Tristram Shandy, like Don Quixote, is a classic humor novel. It contains some hilarious premises (i.e. his father being obsessed with his family's noses and Tristram's nose getting smashed by clumsy forceps work during his delivery), but the digressions, which are the central conceit of the book and can be humorous on their own, dilute the fun to the point of making it a tedious exercise to finish it. The author is clearly impressed with his own cleverness but also has a sense of humor about h... Read more
Review:Absolutely gorgeous book. I'm so pleased to have this and read it. It's a classic that is as classic as they come. The previous owner took excellent care of it. It feels like an original first addition, and I am one that has an appreciation for those sorts of things (history). I love it. Read more
Review:The vendor wasted no time sending out my book! I almost finished reading it when the four other books I ordered the same day from other vendors arrived. I will make sure to order from this vendor from now on. Clearly this bookstore has their act together. Well done! Read more
Review:Okay! I gotta tell you. I have two grandsons -- one is 11 and the other is 6. Both are going to absolutely go bonkers over this book. I previewed it to make sure that it was okay to share with my grandkids. Heck, I think even the girls will get a kick out of it...from the "Grandpa, that's gross...ew....yuck! Grandpa!" kinda way. lol Boys really do get a laugh out of gross stuff. Hey, I was a boy once, too. I know. lol Good job. This is gonna be fun. And, if I get in trouble with th... Read more
Review:At 245 pages, the novel Submission by Nichel Houlellbecq offers acute social critique, especially of the Western world’s (Europe and the United States) liberal individualism, which offers no certainty, no family strength, no soothing traditions and rituals, and no birthrate. In contrast, Islam offers strong family values and the assurance of a vision, which affords its believers certainty. More importantly, Islam is a political movement and it wants world domination, both through polite politic ... Read more
Review:Julian Fellowes descriptions of the English elite are wonderful. His insights into their attitudes and motives is both impressive and immensely entertaining. These 'snobs' live in a world or their own, but - as Mr. Fellowes show us - their world is as complex and contradictory as our own. Particularly enjoyable to read is the 'have nots' in the book who will do virtually anything to pull themselves up to the next rung on the social ladder while having no idea of what they will find if they actu... Review:This is for fans of the TV hit "Justified". This book ends where "Justified" begins. If you like that show, you'll love this book and the adventures of Raylin Givens..the no-nonsense US Marshall. This book is a fun, entertaining read. It leaves you wanting more. I'm a Leonard fan for life. Read more
Review:I adore this book and have read it multiple times. From the time I read this book I searched & waited for more books to be written by Peter Mayle and have read almost all he has written. I love the visual picture I get from his discription of the characters and landscape of France. I would encourage you to read this fun and entertaining story of their transition from England to Provence. Read more
