I adore this book and have read it multiple times. From the time I read this book I searched & waited for more books to be written by Peter Mayle and have read almost all he has written. I love the visual picture I get from his discription of the characters and landscape of France. I would encourage you to read this fun and entertaining story of their transition from England to Provence.

I bought this book to replace a library book that was lost (actually stolen, together with my suitcase, from a train - in Provence!). It had to be a specific publisher, edition etc. to be accepted. Thanks to the detail provided by the seller, I got the right one on the first try. I'm grateful. SR from Pennsylvania

I love Peter Mayle's books, especially the series about his live in Provence. The book is first of three, but for me this one is the best because it describes the whole year from January to December. Everyone who has been to Provence (but also the ones who haven't) will appreciate how realistic the description of local habits, culture, people, etc. is.

Enjoyed this book very much and most likely will read it again. It is witty, smartly written and the author narrates his experiences so efficiently that it is easy to picture the scenario and the scenery. Strongly recommend it when the reader wishes to be transported to southern France and in the process have a laugh or two. Thank you, Peter Mayle.

A clever book, well written, amusing and observant! Loved it.It says a lot about Mayle's neighbours and how the author adapted to a continental environment, French provincial cusatoms and food, and gives interesting insights into the midset of his fellow countrymen as they drop in, often unannounced, to his "pad" in the Pyrenees. I recommend this book which is always topical, even though it has been around for a while.

Having thoroughly enjoyed my first experience in Provence last year with my daughter, I was compelled to tackle Mayle by my daughter; Mayle's literary style and gift of English wit and understatement reminded me of the joys of Provence and the charms of the French country folk. I can't wait to read Mayor's other works!

A Year in Provence brought back wonderful memories of a recent trip to this part of Provence. Nicely written with laugh out loud descriptions. Very enjoyable read. Provencal friends tell me the book is quite accurate.

I loved this book. It is very entertaining. Since I have been to Provence just recently, it took me back to the places I've visited. Peter Mayle's description of the French culture and the places are excellent. We visited the Luberon Valley and was informed that he has donated a lot of good things there.

Peter Mayle writes about the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of life in the French countryside with humor and wry insights. This book allows a reader to feel as though one had spent the weekend at Mayle's house with his use of detailed yet highly visual descriptions that are never boring. I often felt a little more suntanned and relaxed when I reluctantly put this book down. Mayle's book is a thoroughly good read if you have ever wanted to travel to France or if you want to relish the memories of your journey there.

Read the first few chapters of a friends book then ordered my own. Cant wait for it to come. I've already decided to move to France. This is exceptionally well written tongue in cheek, with global appeal to any one in any culture.

A book not be missed. You learn about Provence, the French, visitors and in general enjoy the life of the writer.

Provence is a favorite place of mine and after reading this book the 1st time years ago I was all for going there myself.

Our book club is reading this and will discuss it on June 18th. We will also be enjoying a French picnic.

If James Herriott had moved to France... Great book written with wit and humor and a gentle treatment of the one-two punch of moving to a new location with a different language and culture. Highly recommended

Great fun read that had me chuckling away many times. A slightly deeper look reveals a keen understanding of the human condition its foibles and richness coupled with genuinely valuable insights into living in Provence at the time. One of the most enjoyable reads I've had in years.
