Review:Chuck Palahniuk certainly has a style of his own. Dark, twisted and a little irreverent but so clever and creative. This story is bizarre but a fun and funny read. Sharp dialogue. Engaging from page one. You get little glimpses of what's coming, like the next impending train wreck. I found it hard to put down. This was the first book I've read of his, but have purchased more. Review:My very active grandsons, Trajan 7 and Lex 5 just loved this book, and asked me to read it again and again. As I read it again, I could hear giggles, and they were pointing and smiling at the pictures with glee. Trajan and Lex both want to bring this book to school so everyone will hear this story. Both boys came up with different endings, but that's the beauty of this story. I am a new fan of Jon Klassen and look forward to purchasing more books written and illustrated by him. Read more
Review:I came to this novel after reading extensively in the film criticism of James Agee, who was easily one of the great reviewers the genre has seen. As one critic pointed out, in his criticism, Agee takes the reader into the film, and not to concerns extraneous to the film, like so many reviewers (such as Pauline Kael, who writes beautifully, but whose comments sometimes seem to have very little to do with the film in question).
After reading his film criticism, I have to confess that I was som... Read more
Review:I found the writing in this book insufferable. I found it was too hard to believe that someone with such a childlike view of the world could both succeed in medical school and help people through complex psychological issues. In the end the book seemed to indicate that it was hector's ability I listen that made him a good psychologist. While listening I your patients is an essential component to treatment, treating psychological issues goes much deeper than that, thus all of the schooling. Addi... Read more
Review:My 6 year old twin granddaughters pick this as their book of choice for bedtime reading. They practice their reading skills and particularly like the knock-knock jokes and tongue twisters. It is colorful and well illustrated. Read more
Review:As "A book About Manners," I was referred to this book to teach my children to follow the "Golden Rule." This was a humorous story, but it was a little too long for my 3 and 4 year old. They lost interest in it quickly. I would recommend it more for the 6-8 year old age group. Read more
Review:Loved the online comics on Facebook, it was so relatable that it almost felt like we were being watched! I bought this for my wife and she is in love with this book. I hope Catana continues to make more! Read more
Review:After reading the positive reviews and the book description, I felt that this work had an interesting premise. I believe some of the reviews compared the author to Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams; unfortunately, these comparisons fall far from the mark. I know that writing a book such as this one is certainly a difficult task to undertake and I hate to be overly critical, but I did spend about $12 of my hard-earned cash (and my predilection towards leaving no dollar wasted is probably the on... Review:Really nice looking book. Super well put together. The book itself wasn't the best. Kinda stretched out. The worst part was that there was no school or even Rowley! How can you have a diary of a wimpy kid book without school and Rowley!? Other than that great looking book. Ok read. Could have been better in terms of the text. Read more
