Review:When I picked up, “Everybody Rise” I simply wanted to hate it. I heard that all the Lily Pullitzer moms were reading it and to keep an eye on their doings, I thought I’d give it an open and honest read...
In “Everybody Rise” readers can expect a tale of class, status and power seeking among New York’s socialistas. Reliably narrated in third person point of view, Clifford takes us into the life of twenty-something Evelyn Beegan who in character is not particularly special and is wildly h... Read more
Review:When I first started this book, the plot seemed a little improbable to me. Actually, that didn't change much--there were improbable things throughout the book--but it did finally get better, and the main character became a little more likable. That's not a must for me, but I do enjoy having someone I'm rooting for. I thought at first it would be the husband, but he was a flake; the kids weren't likable; and since the main character (let's call her MC) didn't really have any friends, non of the... Read more
Review:Thank goodness there are no mind police. They vivid writing of Allisa Nutting puts some wild images in your head. I would recommend her books to anyone, and Tampa is no exception. Twisted. Wonderful. Thought provoking. Read more
Review:Maybe I just don't ger Chuck Palahniuk, but after reading two of his books (this one and "Lullaby") I find his style to be boring. Yes, he peppers his stories with unrelentingly disturbing imagery, and he manages to pull together interesing stories that start out well... but in both of these books things tend to peter out toward the end. When you become apathetic (not disgusted or distressed) about the lead character by the middle of the book, something is wrong. I know he carries a ravenous ... Read more
Review:The way Chuck Palahniuk is building his characters will probably look as a split personality point of view. But the book is fluent and easy to ready. I think the beginning and the chapter buildup is very promising and very provocative, and I was expecting a surprise ending. Most of the marketing world is actually a vision made before the internet era. Read more
Review:I could not finish this contrived, hopeless and bitter collection of nonsense and would likely have a difficult time enjoying a friendship with someone who had. Read only if you have given up on life, for the ugly pictures painted here will reaffirm your own sense of misery. Not an ounce of wit to be found here. Stay away. Read more
Review:This is my first Chuck Palahniuk book, and I love it. It's crazy. Like, all over the damn place crazy. May be a bit hard to read for some, but that's the fun of it in my opinion. Sort of like a labyrinth. Excellent story. Great book. Read more
Review:Not my favorite Palahnuik novel but it was an interesting read. As I got further into the story I started to like the main character Madison and even found myself relating to her struggles with body image, acceptance, and trying to discover who you are with everyone telling you what you're supposed to be. I think the best characters are the ones you wonder and think about after you finish the book. Read more
Review:The content of these books were okay, but there was a lot of contradictions. For example one of the bucket list items was learn to swim, however quite a ways earlier another item on the list was skinny dipping, so obviously she knew how to swim. There were other inconsistencies throughout that were quite annoying. Read more
Review:Funny, sweet and I loved it! It was refreshing to read a book where I was not left hanging, however this would have been a 5 Star for me had I not felt like the end was a little too rushed. With that being said, this was a laugh out loud, fun and sexy read.
Gabby has something from her past holding her back from moving on. Her friend Fran is trying to help her comes to terms with it and wants her to get back out there and find some happiness. I loved both these characters. The banter between ... Read more
