A novel (Vintage International) - A Horse Walks Into a Bar

Review:A tragic book -- would you expect anything else from David Grossman? -- and a masterpiece. Although the translator did a masterful job of translating -- occasionally substituting the jokes of this stand-up act, some familiarity with Jewish culture and Israeli life can come in handy, but the book can be fully appreciated without it. Thirty-Three Going on Girlfriend (Spinster Series Book 2)

Review:Becky Monson is an amazing writer! She really gets you to connect with the characters, and experience what they're experiencing. I love the way she writes, and this story does not disappoint. This book will especially appeal to chick-lit lovers, which I am. Read more

Review:I thought this was a pretty good romantic suspense book! I have never gotten started on Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles series, and I was intrigued to find one of her books that wasn't part of that series. This is a stand-alone romantic suspense that is one of her older, I suppose, pre-Rizzoli and Isles works, and after I finished the book I saw that it was copyrighted in 1990, although I found it as a new release.

Review:I did not find this believeable or plausible. It seemed to be a combination of every male's fantasies about divorced middle aged women. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one was that writing was decent. Read more

Review:The Impossible Fortress has been generating a lot of buzz since last summer when the review copies came out, and rightfully so. It’s hard to believe this is a debut novel, because it’s smoothly designed and hugely original. It’s written with a deftly woven plot that never misses a step; engaging characters that are nearly corporeal, they are so well sculpted; and an utterly captivating voice that unspools the narrative. Best of all, it’s hilarious! I thank Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for m... Read more

Review:I really like reading the Amazon reviews before I purchase a book so I don't waste my money, but I'm a little let down this time. There were so many good reviews for this book that I figured it must be really great.
Unfortunately, for me, it has not been.
I've read the first 4 or 5 stories and am not really impressed. The stories are kind of dark, and gruesome(which I normally like), but they don't have much to them. Maybe some people will like them for their face value ugliness, but I pre... Read more

Old Filth (Old Filth Trilogy)

Review:Again, this book has a deepening historical reference--about the Raj orphans, children born usually to British parents in India and sent "home" to England at a very young age to be fostered and educated in England. Gardam develops an interesting case in Edward Feathers. World War II makes its contribution to Feathers' feeling always alone, cut off, in fear of being left. It is perhaps ironic that Feathers makes his career with t he help of a "Chinese dwarf" lawyer who gives him connections i... Read more

The Mandibles: A Family, 2029–2047

Review:A wonderful depiction of our possible dystopian near future. A little heavy on the economic explanations but a very descriptive foreshadowing of our culture in America turned upside down. I recommend that it be read concurrently with an eye on our current American political situation. Read more

Review:Loved all the characters, flaws and all. Perfection can be boring. Not sure I would want to be a member of this congregation, but a church is made up of sinners. There is love and Hope for these friends. Read more

The laugh-out-loud love story of the year! - The Bucket List to Mend a Broken Heart

Review:A sweet love story. Simply writing but typically the kind I cherish when I don't want a complicated story. You can't help feeling sad, then frustrated, and finally happy for Abi! And for sure, you'll want starting your own bucket list ;) Read more
