What a beautiful story.
Broken, shattered and lost, that is Tabby. She takes one day at a time, one second at a time. She fights to make it through an hour and then a day. Nothing is easy.

Noah is his own kind of broken. He thinks Tabby is amazing, but she won't let him in. He is caught up in his past while trying to live in his present.

What happens when Tabby's past collides into her present? Will she make it or will she crumble?

Great storyline! Keeps you on the edge in getting to know each character. The topics discussed are very serious but very good & knowledgable topics. These are situations faced everyday and this book helps others to realize that they are not alone. I highly recommend this book!

This is not the typical romance story. Love comes only after the H&H go down a long emotional roller coaster ride encountering many psychological obstacles. To me, Noah was the true hero and spotlight of the story. He was a very strong willed person. He overcame some obstacles and bad decisions in life to become a solid, upstanding, young man. I did not care for the way Tabitha was portrayed in the story so much. I guess I can understand how some things in life can beat people down and make them broken and damaged. However, the story put too much blame for her psychological state on what happened to her at the party (which she could not even remember) and not enough on the fall-out after the event, which to me is what can really damage a person. Being ridiculed, called names, snubbed by friends and teachers, harassed by your exes friends, etc. That is what can cause an emotional breakdown. There was just something lacking or missing with Tabitha that just left me needing more.

I was really excited to start reading this book. Unfortunately It did not live up to the hype in my head. The idea behind the book was a good one. But it was really rushed. I am not trying to be mean bc I could jot sit down and write a book but the was kind of bad in my opinion.

This book was about a young college girl that made some bad decisions that led to her putting herself in a dangerous position. Then when the world crashes down around her she relocates and tries to start fresh. This book is about pain, strength and most of all healing. A great read

I liked the opening chapter of this story - it suggested it was really going great places. Unfortunately, for me, the rest of the story failed to deliver. There were too many things I really didn't like for a $2.99 book, to the point I couldn't be bothered finishing it and returned for a refund.

Some of the things that really annoyed me:

* Unless I missed something (and I don't think I did), there is virtually no physical description of the heroine, Tabitha (Tabby). She has long hair. That's all I could work out. No idea of its colour, or the colour of her eyes. Whether she's tall or short, fat or thin. (I figured, as a former dancer, that she was small and thin, but there is the odd, veiled reference to her lack of fitness and her inability to stop eating; so, for all I could glean, she quite possibly no longer had a dancer's physique). It was all too confusing, trying to picture the main character with no description and it even became quite laughable when she attends the hairdresser at one point and there is still not one descriptive reference in relation to her hair (other than it's long enough to be in a ponytail or plait). Strange.

* The hero, Noah, has sandy hair at one point, then a few pages later it's dark. Again, strange.

* The heroine is damaged and there are a number of references to what has happened in her past, but it is all delivered in 'dribs and drabs', resulting in so little cohesive detail that it's really hard to feel that much empathy for her. Added to this, she's always one breath from a panic attack, yet somehow manages to function fine in other situations that should be causing her concern. It was all a bit disjointed and didn't create any sense of credibility about her dramatic past.

* There is a 'mean girl', Jenna, in the story, but her villain status and the intense dislike (and even fear) that the heroine feels for her is a bit hard to understand, because Jenna doesn't do anything too nasty until well into the latter half of the story. I think Jenna is meant to represent everything that Tabitha is running from in her past, but the past is so poorly drawn that, again, it's hard to empathise with Tabitha's immediate antipathy.

* There are times when the author fast-forwards the story so much that you literally miss weeks of the heroine's life. Then there are other times when you're going through the minutiae of what she's eating with her father and step-mother. Aside from one lecture group that she has with the hero, it's almost as if she isn't even at university. There are also some strange scenes where the timing is off, like when she just enters the classroom, has a hissy fit at the hero and stalks out, all before class starts; but the impression is that she left at the end of the lesson because there is no comment from the overly-involved lecturer or the hero about her ditching class. Frankly, there is inadequate control of the timeline and plot development. Also, unless American universities are dramatically different to Australian ones, I also wonder if the author actually attended uni herself, because there are times when the setting and circumstances just don't ring true.

* A few too many coincidences for me: the guy Tabitha tries to one-night stand just happens to turn up at a dance production a day or so later and, of course, she stumbles into him; then he just happens to be in one of her classes; then he just happens to be her supervising editor at the campus newspaper; later, after they have established a connection, he just happens to be randomly walking past a park where she has randomly stopped. Random, random, random. Waaay too random.

Having said all that, I believe there is hope for this author to improve her writing and I wouldn't completely dismiss her future endeavours.

The author is definitely a great writer. For the most part the dialogue works and was not stilted like so many authors have trouble with. However, when the book ended I was left feeling a bit jipped. For starters, at the beginning of the story, I felt like the author was going to really deal with the main character's traumatic past. I don't want to give away anything to someone that hasn't read it, but I think that what happened to the heroine would make a gritty and fantastic book of coming back from trauma if done right. Unfortunately, besides her therapy sessions, where she lies to the therapist in order to convince her that she is "better", and her experiments with Noah, I'm still not sure how she came out of the book less traumatized that she started. The book also felt rushed, not in the terrible, "we met and suddenly we are head over heels, obsessed with eachother", which is a good thing. But, it just felt like the author didn't feel like writing a large portion of the book. She skipped whole weeks at a time of the characters' courtship; scenes that were needed to develop their connection. Instead, she told us that they happened, which is not nearly as good as experiencing them yourself. In addition, the author introduces several characters that I would have liked to get to know on more than just a superficial level. For example, we are introduced to the heroines supposed best-friend, given some back-story, and told that she is trustworthy, and... nothing else. Lastly, there were some editing issues that just bug the crud out of me. When Tabby first meets Noah in the bar, she describes his hair as "sandy," later that same night his "mop of dark hair falls in his eyes." That, combined with many similar small mis-prints and word usage issues make me a bit annoyed that this wasn't a $.99 book.

I found this book really intriguing and exciting after reading the synopsis. I have not read anything by Clare James before so I thought I would give it a go. Overall, I though the book was well written, and an enjoyable read. I did have a hard time connecting with the characters and the story fell a little flat for me. I really wanted to love it, and I felt a little disappointed when I finished it. I give Before You Go a solid 3 stars, but I don't think I will be continuing on in this series.

BEFORE YOU GO by Clare James was a beautifully written book, it tugged at my heartstrings.

The story in this book was amazingly written and well developed the plot was fast paced and made me hurt right along with the characters in the book. This book is full of trouble people who think that they do not deserve any one else in their life, bad things have happened to all of them.

Tabby leaves school after a sex scandal sends her into a severe depression, after spending time in a facility to help treat her, where they do any thing but help her, having her filled with so many drugs she can't even stand by herself, her father and step mother bring her to their home, where they get her the help that she really needs.

Noah, swoon, has led a troubled path since one night during freshman year of college where one bad decision changed the lives of many.

Tabby and Noah cross paths when she is out for a night on the town in what Tabby calls "take back the night", all she wants is a one night stand to try and get past that fateful night of the party at her last school, and Noah just happens to be the catch of the night. What Tabby did not count on was that Noah works at the newspaper at the new school that she will be attending and working on the paper to earn some school credits, nor that her father is the faculty advisor for the paper and knows Noah. Watching Noah and Tabby together as the both discover each other and work through their pasts was a beautiful journey to go.

BEFORE YOU GO by Clare James was her debut novel and could not have been more perfectly written, this is the first book in what appears to be the start of an amazing YA romance series. I would give BEFORE YOU GO 4/5 stars.

Tabby has to endure a lot of torment after pictures and a party made her flee the place she was living and she ends her going to college somewhere where no one finds her. She never expected too go to a bar to let of steam and find herself face to face with the hot Noah. He does a very good job of weaving his way into her life but Tabby is constantly worried that someone will find out about her past.

Very good story and one that pulled me in and kept me hooked on Tabby and Noah's relationship and story. It was really great to read and to be honest, it's one of those stories that you never want to end.

I absolutely love books that have gripping prologues -- prologues that are semi-vague but have enough emotion and angst to get you right on the edge of your seat, only to leave you with a few questions.

And that is what Clare James manages to do with the opening scene of BEFORE YOU GO. No sooner than you're trying to figure out what exactly happened, you have Tabby in a bar, playing competitive BINGO, and trying to find a man to get over her fears with. A little alcohol is (obviously) involved. But right away, this stranger's smile and wit draws her to him. She reels him in, takes him home... and freezes.

I love that Noah was intrigued by Tabby and wanted to help her overcome her fears -- even if he wasn't privy to them. He, himself, had his own secrets but he wanted Tabby and he wanted to help her feel whole.

With New Adult stories, you can get a grab-bag -- some are hot, fast, and passionate, others are slow, sweet, and long-lasting (with equal parts passion). I like the slow, sweet ones. I like watching the characters feel one another out, learn their ins and outs, and find a way to co-exist with one another, and with both sets of less-than-favorable pasts. I wasn't on the up-and-up with New Adult until mid-2014, so I will use that as an excuse as to how this 2013 publication missed my radar. I absolutely enjoyed it and look forward to both Jules' story and the continuation of Noah and Tabby's!

2 "Getting Back Up" Stars

Before You Go is the story of Tabby. She was assaulted at her previous university and after the fallout became too much, she changed universities hoping to start over. She meets Noah one night as she's trying to take back her power by having a one night stand. But her past still haunts her and she can't go through with it. Noah is very gentlemanly about it though and when she runs into him on campus, they start a friendship that Noah tries to make more but Tabby isn't ready for. When Noah's past comes calling, Tabby starts to spiral downward again. Tabby knows though that until she moves on, she'll never be able to be with Noah.

This had a really interesting synopsis, but I just couldn't feel much of a connection to the characters or between Noah and Tabby. I wanted to like them but found them kind of flat. Their initial meeting was quite interesting but afterwards much of their relationship seem kinda of immature. There was too much back and forth and with Noah trying to play healer to a problem he didn't even know about was a bit much for me. Plus one minute Noah is eager to help Tabby but then puts her on the back burner when he "friend" comes calling. It turned me off to him and it was hard to like him much after that when he demanded Tabby have a backbone when he didn't in regards to their pasts.

While this book didn't work for me, I'm sure that those who love a good angsty NA read will love it. I think it just wasn't for me right now.

Before You Go (Impossible Love Series #1)

By Claire James

Tabby has moved to the same city as her dad after having a traumatic time at her old collage, She had gotten caught up in a sex scandal that sent her spiralling into a dark place. She is now trying to get back control of her life starting with having a one night stand... She picks Noah as the guy she want a no strings night with but things don't really go to her plan.

This is an emotional read and from Tabby's pov it has you feeling how she feels and wanting her to overcome her past. I loved this story from the very beginning and felt it grabbed hold of me and pulled me in. So much so I read it in one sitting and I am now left wondering why have I not read anything by this author before??.

It has taken me a while to trust Noah but I feel this was because I was seeing things through Tabby's eyes, I really wanted to trust and love him but I was so scared in case he let me down but I can safely say I totally love him.

I know that there is 2 more books in this series but one of the characters that really stood out for me was Michael and I would love to read his story.

There isn't anything I disliked about this book and I feel like I may have discovered a truly talented author.

5 stars for the store & 5 stars for Goodreads

This is my first read from Author Clare James, so I hope my review can do her Justice.
Before You Go, starts off with Tabitha (Tabby) Kelly, a college student, relocating to Minnesota due to a sex scandal she's involved in at her college.
She relocates in an attempt to take back the reigns of her life, and she feels like a string of one night stands is the perfect way to do it.
She sets her eyes on Noah thinking he's perfect, but soon, she questions her plan and finds she can't follow through.
Noah becomes something more for Tabby, something she wasn't expecting. Will she push him away, or will she let him in?
This was a very refreshing read. A little predictable at some points, but that didn't take away from the story at all. Definitely recommended to anyone who enjoys a contemporary romance.

******3.5 stars*****

Tabby was one of those characters who has taken a licking and just keeps on ticking. She's seen the worst of herself, along with her family and former friends, and was still able to rise up and move on. Or so she thought. She wants to get over the trauma of being humiliated and slandered by those she trusted, and she figures diving headfirst into a one-nighter where she calls the shots is a perfect solution. Interesting concept, but unfortunately for her there was some poor execution involved given she can't exactly get past the whole "I'm naked and there's a man in my bed" part. She's a textbook case of PTSD, and thankfully for her the sexy guy Noah she chose to take home with her just happens to be a complete gentleman on top of being drop-dead gorgeous. Yep, he had me at "hello", for sure! So, no harm no foul, right? Well, it would figure that Noah just happens to not only attend the same university as Tabby, but he also helps run the school newspaper where she'll be interning. Can we say awkward??

Noah had his work cut out for him with Tabby, because she was not only coming off the humiliation of her past, but now she'd left him hanging after she had been the one to drag him home from the bar. The more I learned about what Tabby had gone through, the more I wanted her to give Noah a chance to be that guy, the one she didn't have to run away from. She was wronged in a way that was so devastating and cruel, and the fact that it's something that can and does happen to women more often than anyone cares to admit just makes it hit home that much more.

That's all it takes and suddenly I'm sinking, lower than low. I. Hate. Myself. Correction: I will pretend I'm okay. Fake it until I make it. And so begins the battle. ~Tabby Loc 1362

Noah was her breath of fresh air in a world where she'd created a bubble for herself, and as he slowly pulled her out of her comfort zone to reach him, it was exactly what she needed. She was still dealing with her inner demons as well as those around her that weren't looking out for her best interest, so Noah became more and more important to her recovery as time went on.

"He's a good guy, Tabby. Don't give up on him yet. But this isn't about him, it's about you. Life is a bitch, but it's easier when you come at her swinging." ~Jules Loc 2329

I think for a plot with such a serious and painful subject matter, it could have benefitted from a longer story. There were some areas that needed more attention and more time to really get into the nitty gritty of the storyline, and without that I felt like we didn't get the depth needed to really make this a standout. I was still moved by the relationship that grew between Noah and Tabby, though, and it was a very well-written, sexy, poignant story that I really enjoyed!

Great start to a new trilogy... After being drugged and assaulted on campus, Tabitha Kelly became a girl in crisis. To give her a reset, she moves to live with her father and stepmother in Minnesota. In an effort to take back her control and life, she decides to go for a no strings attached one night stand with Noah. Will they be able to turn a night that could have been into something real? Will she continue to make progress in both their friendship and relationship, and will this help her heal? Will her past ultimately come back to haunt her and drive her away from the person who loves her?

I can't wait to read #2 "More" and dive into the story of Jules and Foster.

Hot cover right??? I think I swooned a little after finally seeing it ;)!!

I got the honor of reading an ARC of this book and I am so glad I did...

I really enjoyed this book. It pulled me in from the beginning and I actually finished it the same day I started it.
Tabby and Noah were both excellent, well thought out characters that weren't rushed into a relationship.
One thing I can't stand is a fast track relationship..
Meet in the first chapter, saying "I love you" by the third, really irritates me!!!
This relationship started off as a weird friendship turned relationship.
They got to know each other, became friends first and then started the slow track to becoming a "we".
AND Let me tell ya the sexual tension between the two characters were HOT and I wanted to scream, JUST DO IT ALREADY!!

Tabby herself is a strong, leading female character who suffers through a traumatizing ordeal pretty much alone and I was left feeling so much sympathy towards her. But she did not let it affect her too much and you get to see her grow as a person towards the end of the book, while you're rooting for her recovery the whole time.

I LOVED the relationship between Tabby and her father. I don't think there are enough books out there with characters who are close with their parents and even though Tabby felt smothered by her father, I thought it was very sweet that he cared so much about her well-being, especially since her mom was a piece of work.

You should read this book.
It not only shows how a young women can overcome her traumatizing past but how she can find love again after something that awful happens to her!

JUST READ IT!! :)

Wow this book really touched me. Yes what happened to Tabby was terrible but what touched me the most was her depression, anxiety and panic attacks and how she worked so hard to overcome and learn to trust. She is a strong character and Noah is the perfect guy to help her through it and not do it for her. I really enjoyed this book

Before You Go was heart wrenching, intense and full of passion. I loved every bit of it. Clare James did an amazing job. This story was beautifully written, I hope to read more by this author as her work is magnificent.

Tabby has suffered from a tragic sexual assault in her home town. Now she is living in a new place, starting a new school and hoping to start over. However, no matter how much she tries to forget her past it seems to have a way of catching up to her. Now with her new friends and new HOT boyfriend, she can finally start over with out having to worry with what happened before or so she thought. Tabby soon finds out that not everyone lives a perfect life, everyone has a past and there are more broken out there than what meets the eye. With Noah and Jules by her side, Tabby is ready to face her fears.

Before You Go is the debut novel from Clare James and she does a wonderful job. Clare James has such an ease with the characters and the development of the story. Tabitha was such a vivid character. She had such an honesty realness to her that instantly made me relate to her.

While I've read stories like this before (girl with a dark secret meets a guy) I think she approached it in a refreshing way. I appreciated that the book focused on the therapy and exercises many people go through to help. I've never read a NA (or any book really) that actually talks about sexual therapy. I think it was a realistic way to show the steps someone would take to try and move on.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. It wasn't all hot and steamy, it wasn't this huge rollercoaster of emotions, what is was is a truly complete story of a struggle to overcome and survive...and even find love. This book tackles a very tender subject, but does so without all of the humiliating details often present in books with this topic. I love the experimental therapy Noah and Tabitha step themselves through. We get some of that, but more the overall feelings developing rather than the sexual information. I connected with Tabby and I completely loved the good man Noah was. I am headed off to read More (book #2) now.

*Id like to thank Clare James for supplying me with an ARC of Before You Go in return for an honest review*

Tabitha has been through a lot in the past couple of months. From being involved in a sex scandal at her old school, to her friends ditching her, to drowning in a deep depression, it's a lot to try and overcome so when she goes to live with her dad, she figures she can at least try to get through the next two years.

In doing so, she decides that she just wants one night, one night with a guy in which after, it will help her gain control on her life and she can start over. But not everything is that simple.

Picking up a guy in her local bar, she meets Noah Adler and he's more than willing to sleep with her. But when they both get to the final stages before having sex, Tabitha can't go through with it, and she becomes paralyzed and fakes illness.

Tabitha tries to forget about Noah, but it seems impossible when he seems to be everywhere she turns at school. He quickly weaves his way into her life, and her heart and it scares Tabby but she kind of likes it. But shes so scared of him finding out her secret, that she doesn't tell him. What happens what it all comes out though? Will Noah stand by her or leave her?

When Clare James emailed me and asked if I would like to receive a copy of this book, I read the synopsis and instantly knew I wanted to read it. And I'm so glad I did because I couldn't put it down. I even took to reading it over my friend's house last night while they all talked amongst themselves. So yes, I can honestly say I was hooked. I know there are many books about popular girls and sex scandals but really...this book was nothing like any of them. It was completely different and took a different spin on them all, into something that wasn't just focused on the love aspect, it focused on the issue at hand - the sex scandal and how it affected Tabitha's life, to how she needed to control her life and get it back on track without anyone finding out about her past.

We meet Tabitha in her local bar and get a glimpse into her past - the night that changed everything about her. Everything that was taken from her. She's depressed, scared, frightened, emotionally scarred but all she really wants is to move on and take control of her life, thinking the only way to do so is to find a willing guy who will have a one night stand with her. She thinks by doing this, everything will at least, try to be back to normal.

Spotting a hot guy at the bar, Tabitha approaches him, asks him to play bingo with the locals and they engage in drinks and literature all night until they get back to her apartment. But before anything can really go any further, Tabby stops it, a feeling a dread soaring through her, but Noah doesn't mind, he stays with her, making sure she is alright and playing nurse. Such the cutie, right?

Thinking she would never see him again, shes surprised when he's in her class and he's her `boss' at her internship with the school's newspaper. Noah never wanted her to be a one night stand but not wanting to pursue anything with him, at least that's what she first says, he slowly worms his way into her life, makes her see that he's not a bad guy and he really likes her and wants to help her through whatever is hurting her. She never knew that he was the guy she was looking for to help her and love her, loving him in return.

I fell for Noah the instant he appeared in the book. There was something about him that captivated not only me, but of course, Tabby. He was charming, he was sweet, but he also cared about Tabby, becoming persistent in being friends and wanting to pursue more with her. But he knew there was something deep down in Tabby that was still hurting her and I loved that he wanted to help her out, help her to stop being so scared of whatever it was, to help her overcome her need of being in control, both in her life and in the bedroom, in turn gaining her trust and not pushing her to tell him her secret, waiting until she was comfortable in telling him. He was literally the greatest boyfriend/friend that Tabby could have had, and to help her through everything, he was just perfect, even when he was hiding his own secrets.

I have to say; I enjoyed the scenes where Noah was helping Tabby overcome her need to control and her fear of being touched intimately. He knew just want to do to make her feel relaxed and let her, give him some of the control in turn, making her trust him and the ways he used to help her through this insecurity and dread. They were great scenes with Tabby slowly getting used to being touched by Noah and because of that, she let herself go, let Noah touch her, relax her and finally learn that sharing the control meant trusting one another, knowing they won't push you into something you don't want. It was great to see her journey throughout the book in gaining back pieces of herself.

I applaud Tabby's strength. It took a lot of courage to let people in, even though she hadn't told them about her past. Strength to let a guy in, to trust him and fall in love with him, to having a friend that she can lean on and a family that support her and love her. She pushed everything from her past away, including dancing, in which she loved. She didn't want anything to do with the old her, but I loved that she just couldn't stay away from her dancing. It was a big part of her, but also an escape but the more she danced, the more the old her was slowly seeping back. She found that strength to power through and try to overcome her past, and in doing so gained a best friend and a boyfriend who adores her and they both will do anything for Tabby, so when the scandal comes out, Noah does what any guy in love would do, hes there for Tabby. Like he would ever leave her. She has his heart for the taking.

The secondary characters from her Dad and stepmother, Amy to her friend Jules were big parts in Tabby's story and life. They were constantly there for her, making sure she was okay, pushing her to achieve her potential and helping her overcome her past (even if Jules didn't know what was wrong, she was there to comfort and assist in gaining that strength back).

Clare James has written a great debut novel, one that I think you should read. I love books that take characters on journeys, to be the best person they can be, and Before You Go is just that. It's about a emotionally damaged girl who grows day by day in strength with the help of friends and family and who falls in love with the boy who stands by her throughout everything. It's a perfect read and has the right amount of emotions for everyone. It's a beautiful read and I definitely think you should add it to you TBR list and read it right now.
