I'm a Computer Science and History student at the University at South Carolina, and I was doing a pretty big paper on World War II. All I gotta say is that i found this book to be incredibly helpful, it was inspiring, hooking, and well written. Ambrose is a true Historian and Storyteller and I cant recommend this book enough for curious individuals to rocking Historians. If you are a WWII buff, you need to read this book. Give these young men their props.

This extremely well researched and excellently written book will raise the awareness of the uninitiated and evoke the reader's every human emotion. Reflecting on the training rigors these heroes subjected themselves to, for the purpose of preparing themselves to face the possibility of death in combat, left me with an even greater appreciation and admiration for these men and their service to our country.

If you enjoyed HBO's mini-series Band of Brothers you will love this book. A captivating story of ordinary men asked to do extraordinary things. Stephen Ambrose is a master storyteller and conveys the stories, feelings, and emotions of men of E Company exceptionally well.

ANYONE WHO IS PATRIOTIC AT ALL WILL LOVE THIS BOOK. MY DAD WAS IN THE WAR AND IT STARTED ON D DAY ALL THE WAY TO THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE TO RELEASING THE HOLOCAUST PRISONERS. IT REALLY GIVES YOU A GREAT HISTORICAL VIEW OF WWII.

Could not put this book down. Riviting. You become so invested in each and every man you'll read about. I read the book before I saw the mini-series and loved both of them very much. Glad that we have this written material to remind us of what has taken place in history.

I happened to read a condensed version of this book in Reader's Digest. Even though it's about men and their relationships, it was interesting to me (a female). I decided to purchase a copy for my sons and my son-in-law because it's an uplifting and encouraging book. There aren't many out there regarding men and their relationships to other men.

I highly recommend this book. I bought it because of the Band of Brothers TV series. I got hooked with the story. I enjoy reading novels and documentaries about WWII, but this book is different than a novel. It is plain record of events that took place in real life. Amazingly told and related. Greatly structured and written in a fashion that is pretty easy to read. The story evolves like the best of the novels. You really get attached to the characters and get to know them prety well. Great job by Ambrose.
This is a must if you like army stories, want to read a good book, and by the way learn some history about one of the greatest soldier group and events of the greatest of wars in history.

This book is written by the amazing Stephen E Ambrose. It is now a major mini series and has caused numerous other members to write their own stories. You identify with each of the characters and become drawn into their world. This is one of the best military books ever written. It is truly a story of heroes.

This offers an historian centered view of E Company while showing much of the same personality as the HBO drama. However, the acting in the miniseries is outstanding, moreover, the HBO series also has interviews with the surviving E company soldiers which are incredible. Why only read about these individuals when you can practically meet them? Having watched the series first I was continually picturing the actors and thinking of the interviews while reading the book. In effect the series brought things to life whereas the book is a little dry. It is a good read and I would recommend it but I would recommend the series more. Why not do both?

I would advise any WWII history buffs to read this to get a better idea of the comaraderie that prevailed throughout the theaters of wars. Very well written by Mr. Ambrose, whose PBS documentaries are always first rate.

After seeing the HBO series several times, having this book, particularly one that was brand new, unread, makes it a real good addition to my library of Band of Brothers collection. I have been told there are quite few interesting details in the book that were not covered in the HBO series, have just started reading the book and found more personal info about the soldier's lives.

I actually read this after seeing the HBO series. The HBO series is very close to the book. The book has a little more to it. Great docu-movie on WWII following the 101st Airborne. Not just war scenes (which are very good), but you get into the thoughts and lives of the troops.

Stephen Ambrose's "Band of Brothers" is a beautifully written record of the trials and triumphs of a group of true American heroes. This book held me firmly in it's grasp from the moment I picked it up. This is the type of narrative history that I thoroughly enjoy.

This was the most realistic war novel, and the only one I have read on Korea. The writer, and I guess it was because he was a Marine, that he was able to make me feel as if I were right there with the individual Marines in all the action. A MUST READ FOR ANYONE AT ALL INTERESTED IN WAR AND HISTORICAL NOVELS AS THIS WAS BASED ON A REAL STORY BY A WRITER WHO KNEW FROM WHERE HE SPOKE,

This is a "must" read. I found it captivating. I now understand the tight relationships that are bonded when training intensely and then fighting together. Becoming "brothers" is a a key to military success.

The european conflict was very different fron the pacific. There was no atoll warfare, and no jungle clashes. But the american forces that dropped into Normandy, faced an enemy just as brutal as the japanese, and in many instances an enemy far more cruel than the japanese. The paratroopers went in blind, no amount of preparation could have truly prepared them for combat they would face when they hit the ground. They fought all across Europe, and even fought as infantry in the Battle of the Bulge. For some the brutality of war became to much, and they just could not continue the fight. Comrads were wounded and some died, as is the natural result of armed conflict. This book shows us a slice of the european war, and it does so quite well. It is well worth buying. JRV
