We've heard all the lies before, but after reading this book you will be able to match what you are hearing with the patterns they mention. It will be harder for someone to deceive you precisely because lies fit into patterns, which for some reason liars all use.

This book was a fun and interesting read. Granted I am studying this material right now which makes it more interesting to me. The material presented is easy to consume. I will put this material into practice at work (le) and see what results I get. At that time I'll report back but it will be several weeks before that happens. Wish me luck...

Well-written, concise and clear examples of how the average person can detect dishonesty. The examples are current and relevant. Tools are easy to remember. The appendices are particularly useful -- Questions to ask any potential caregiver for your children; How to ask your kids about drugs, etc.
The Hope for Healing Human Evil by M. Scott Peck (1985-03-15) :: Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People :: A Psychiatrist's Personal Accounts of Possession, :: Horses Never Lie: The Heart of Passive Leadership :: People of the Lie (New-age) by M. Scott (Morgan Scott) Peck (2006-12-01)

How would you catch a spy in a normal conversation? That is one example in the book. This book is about how the question is asked and listening to what is said. It is not particularly well written. It is written by people who do this for a living. It is worth a read.

Very interesting book. It explains many "warning signals" I have experienced with interactions working with people. I wish I knew these things long ago. It would have helped me make fewer mistakes in the judgement of trustworthiness.

Great book! So much information through stories, and examples that I am going to have to read it a second time to make sure I get the full benefit! Interrogators, police officers, and interviews would benefit greatly from this!

Outstanding. Worth more than I paid for it. The method they demonstrate is at once simple and easy to comprehend and yet complicated and able to adapt to very complex interviewing. Wish I had had this about a decade ago.

Nice read, and some informative chapters. Don't think you'll be able to go out and nail the lie every time.
It takes years of practice to do that type of thing. The authors of the book are the real deal and offer some
basic techniques for spotting deception.

Who else knows more about deception and lying more than the CIA? In my business, as in so many others..the truth is not always forth coming--this is helpful in understand just what the othe party actually means..not just what they say..

Well written. This is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to improve their interviewing skills. It is also very enlightening for those who wish to improve their skills when it comes to detecting untruthful behavior.

I came across a YouTube video, and Susan Carnicero was pretty much summarizing this book in 45 mins (which she did an excellent job). When I realized there was a book on this, I immediately ordered it and within less than about 24 hours I finished reading this book. Now, granted I'm going to have to read it again to really absorb the information because it's more complex than one might think. It honestly is going to take a lot of training, communication, observing and filtering between the "do's" and "don'ts" because let's face it, we aren't naturally "wired" to detect lies.
This book, I wouldn't say "trains" you to detect lies, it trains you to be less gullible (in my case cry). I'm good at knowing when someone is lying to me (women's intuition I suppose) but this is now going to help me validate the lie.
This is really not a book about trying to catch your significant spouse or to use maliciously, I know because I've attempted (youre welcome.) The book wasn't designed this way and the CIA's were smart to not steer it that way.

Great read, and I do see myself progressing more positive in the future.

Easy and fascinating read. This book changes how you see some people with real life examples of how we communicate and what it means actually wish I had bought a hard copy so will probably do that for ongoing easy reference

The authors provide an nice mix of technique and anecdote to make the book engaging and informative. Without much effort I've noticed some of the deceptive behaviors discussed in the book in everyday life.

The book is very jumbled in the topic discussions, it goes in a poor sequence of back and forth order, the writing is less than stellar, and it was very short with details that are completely common sense. I expected more from top CIA employees. Maybe had the person telling the story to another guy that wrote the story about a different guys experiences in the CIA was not the case and the actual guy they mostly talked about wrote the book, it would be better written. I just don't see why a CIA employee would have someone else write a book about this other top CIA guys personal encounters and experiences, why didn't the person with all the stories just tell his stories to the writer, instead of this middle man person???Weird. Anyways, it was not informative if you have any common sense about people. I learned maybe 4 things from this book.

Lots of specific information like, voice, movement, etc. Not vague generalities. Now I know why _____ always puts his hand over his mouth during serious conversations. Well worth the read. I would highly recommend this book.
