I'm a huge fan of Kristen Ashley so there are not any books of hers I do not like. I really liked the end of the book because it gives you updates on all of the characters of the burg so it gives some closure to the series.
The Golden Dynasty (Fantasyland Series Book 2) :: Brian's Winter (Custom Book Bundles) :: The Adventures of Hatchet Jack (The Mountain Men Book 4) :: Bury the Hatchet (Tulsa Thunderbirds Book 1) :: Bounty (Colorado Mountain Series) (Volume 7)

As usual, Kristen Ashley created an amazing story of friendship, strength, kindnesses, forgiveness and love.
Every time I read one of her books I feel that I need to thank her. This time, I think I will.

I was a big fan of Kristen Ashley books, I loved them could not wait until another one was available, but now they are the same thing over and over again. How many books do I have to read with, "she rolled up in the tips of her toes", argh. This is formulaic writing with different name.

I've waited so long to see Cheryl Sheckle get her happy ending. If there's ever been a character that deserves some good in her life, it's this single mom stripper turned bartender who was duped and used by serial killer, Denny Lowe. And who better to bring her some good than Garrett Merrick, the cop that she's quietly pined for over the years since being welcomed into the fold with open arms in the 'Burg. The build and pacing in this story is perfectly imperfect, the course of events surrounding Cher and Merry is fraught with angst and uncertainty, ex-lovers and festering wounds from the past. Those bumps in the road peppering a seriously steamy story of two people just trying to figure it out as they go. It's just fantastic, the timing of each curve ball, the element of suspense and crime keeping this story right in line with those that came before it, the delicious sex, the laugh-out-loud dialogue and banter, all of it culminating to make Hold On completely unputdownable from beginning to end.
Hold On is a beautifully fleshed out story about two people who've been so wronged by their pasts, who've been hurt and beaten down by their lot in life, who have never believed they'd ever find better until they found it in each other. That's nothing new to Kristen Ashley's books, true. But the gravity of their pasts, all that Garrett Merrick lost, the demons he didn't know how to fight, and all that Cher Rivers has survived, a relationship with a serial killer, stripping to keep food on the table for a little boy fathered by a loser junkie, makes for a story you can feel down to your bones. The grief and the tragedy of the past, the utter safety and security that comes along with being surrounded by good people and good friends in the Burg, and the complete happiness and contentment that comes with finding a love, a reward, the likes of Merrick and Cher after living without it for so long, all of it juxtaposes to deliver a spectrum of emotion that I felt so deeply, on a level I haven't felt while reading in ages. The sweet doesn't taste as sweet without the sour and the burn of the past, the joys and the friendships and the love in this book feel so significant because of the depth of the loss and loneliness and resignation that came before it. Kristen Ashley executes a story in Hold On that ensures the reader feels every bit of that goodness right along with the profound bleakness of the bad.
Hold On is a story of love, of course. But Cher's story is so much more than that. Kristen Ashley consistently and flawlessly writes stories that emphasize the importance of relationships, of the bonds between good people. This author creates a world EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. where the story is so much bigger than girl meets boy, love story ensues, happily ending commences. Ashley makes the reader appreciate every relationship, every single dynamic between her characters, from the old lady next door who'll watch your kid when you're in a bind, to the cops you know you can call on when your neighbors play their music too loud, to the chick in the coffee shop who knows what your regular is and who'll also offer up a dress for you to borrow in a pinch, to the everyday citizen who stops by the bar you work in just to shoot the s*** over a drink. Kristen Ashley gives a small town feel to a book in a way no one else does, making you feel like you're there, giving you that comfort and security of knowing the florist, the police department, your neighbors, your best friend's sister's mother's hairdresser not just by name, but in such a familiar way. And after all, it's obvious by the way Kristen Ashley cultivates a story that that's what's truly important, to be surrounded by good people who have your back and want good things for you. It comes through the pages how important that is to this author, good healthy relationships where people lift each other up, especially people like Cher Rivers who've never had it and need it the most. It's those relationships that make Hold On so special. This story is so much more than the romance between Cher and Merry, it's about a town, a circle of people coming together to rally around this woman who's had it seriously tough in life and they want better for her.
This book is a beautiful finale to an absolutely unforgettable series. Kristen Ashley brings back every major player within her vast cast of characters, and makes them a pivotal part of Merrick and Cher's story. In doing so, she not only made me fall in love with them all over again, but she reminded me of why I fell in love with them in the first place, and she sends them off in a way that ensures I'll never forget again why they mean so much to me. With a lengthy epilogue broken up into parts that gives us a glimpse into every single 'Burg couple as the years unfold, we're left with such peace for these characters, for their families, their children, their friendships, the bonds between all of them that will never end even though we can't see them anymore. It's deeply moving, wholly uplifting, and profoundly bittersweet seeing these characters go. But, as is the beauty of Kristen Ashley's stories, the reader is gifted with characters and moments and lines and memories that we can hold on to. Hold On is now on that long list of KA books that I'll be rereading and revisiting again and again.

I'm a major KA fan, that said this book just didn't do it for me. To me the story line was just not there. Nothing new to grab on to. No major plot twist, no big emotional pull. Just a giant epilogue to the series. And the actually epilogue was only okay. I really hated to see the series end and after this book is really is dead.

I was so excited to read Hold On, finally getting Merrick's story but I was and still am bummed that this is it for the Burg series! I personally loved all the books in this series but this one just like this sister's story was heartwarming. I would recommend this book and all the books in this series. It's an awesome group of people with an amazing bond that transcends generations. Btw~ great job Kristen Ashley you ROCK!

I love Kristin Ashley and read anything that she writes. That being said this book is back to the Kristin Ashley that we all love! Merry was such a good hero and he showed his love for Cher. Cher was a character that I was unsure about based on what we had learned from previous books. Kristin Ashley as always worked her magic in this book. The epilogue was one of her best!

DID NOT FINISH THE BOOK. LOVE THE AUTHOR BUT WAS NOT A FAN OF THIS BOOK. IT WENT ON AND ON WITHOUT A END. THE THING I DID LIKE THE AUTHOR BROUGHT IN ALL THE CHARCTER IN THIS BURG. IT LET KNOW WHAT HAPPEN TO SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE CHARCTERS THAT WE READ IN THE PAST. WILL NOT STOP READING HER BOOKS, BUT THIS ONE WAS NOT HER BEST. ALSO WAS NOT SHOULD WHAT THE CHARCTERS WERE SAYING SOMETIME. THE FEMALE LEAD CHER WAS WEAK. MERRY WAS SCARIEST IN THAT HE HAD A TEMPER.

Kristen Ashley has been one of my most favorite authors but I must say that this book just did not do it for me. Unfortunately, her books seem diluted...I have been disappointed with the last two books I have read. Come on Kristen give your loyal fans what we want - passion and sexy books!!!

When Kristen Ashley puts pen to paper; a new world is opened up. You could become a fly on the wall. These characters become your friends and family. Hold on is no different than any of her other works of art. Not reading this book would be a great loss on your part. Join Kristen's world and you will gain an alternative to your traditional life. I dare each and everyone to pick up one of her books and see if you can put it down.

Loved Hold On! Loved that Cher didn't let Merry get away with any of his garbage, and he called her on hers. And her kid was awesome! And without giving away much - his ex needed to be run outta town! But it was a great story.... I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down - kept thinking I could, but then I couldn't wait to see what happened next!!! Thanks Ms. Ashley!!!

Great book to not only celebrate Merry and Cher's love story, but it included an epilogue that wrapped up the whole series that made me cry. You always wonder about the characters in good books... what would happen in their lives had the author continued with their story. KA not only gave us the happily ever after of Merry and Cher's family, she gave us the HEA of all the 'burg badasses and their families. KA, this is why you're my favourite author of all time.

Merry and Cher, individually and as a couple, broke my heart and then mended it into something just that little bit of stronger, better. It's after 2 am Wednesday morning and I do not regret any moment of the sleep I'm losing or the work I'll have to make up because I spent the whole day with these two and their family and friends.

I'm an avid fan of Kristen Ashley's and it hurts to leave this feedback and I'm being generous by leaving three stars. I'm such a fan that I've read several of her novels twice. I was really looking forward to Hold On and having pre-ordered, I was thrilled when the 'your e-book was delivered' email arrived. Unfortunately, the story was incredibly predictable. First, I found myself skipping paragraphs and then I was skimming pages to find something that didn't read the same as some of her other stories. In fact, and I'm very disappointed by this, I gave up and didn't even bother to finish the book. I knew within a few chapters that this novel was basically a repeat. I understand an author has a writing style and that that style is often recognizable, but this book disappointed me.

This book ran me through the wringer. I laughed out loud and I ugly cried. Merry and Cher went through hell to get their happy ending, but they got it. I'm sad this series has ended, but Ms Ashley couldn't have done it any better than this. This will be a series I revisit many times in the future.

This book is like if the Hallmark Channel did porn. Sappy and vulgar, never read anything quite this bad. This book makes 50 shades of gray read like high brow literature. Six hundred pages of total crap, I'm embarrassed that I finished it (in my defense, somebody in my bookclub picked it) Last word..UGH!

Read it for the amazing epilogue. Read it for a heroine who -- like KA's Dusty or Lexie-- is admirable and kick-butt and true. Read it because the witty dialogue between Cher and Merry is fabulous. Read it because Ethan, the son, is adorable. Read it to laugh and cry and get wound up. Just read it. Your day will be better once you do, and the joy will remain hours later. It is one of KA's best.

I am so glad someone else agrees with me regarding the writing style of Ms Ashley. Do people really talk like this. I said the same thing regarding her last few books incomplete sentences goofy statements sometimes you do have to go back and re-read the sentences to understand what she is saying. Now I see 99% of the reviews are five star "fabulous" but Ms Ashleyand her fans should re-read Sweet Dreams,Lady Luck, Golden Dynasty. Thats what made me a fan of hers but now she seems to be writing for a fan club that doesnt speak my language . Im sure Ms Ashley could care less about my opinion, her fan base is solid but what a sad commentary for what was once for me a very enjoyable storyteller!

I really liked Cheryl being the one in the final book for this series since she was a victim in the first book. Ethan is a pretty good son and a great personality. Garrett (Merry) had some rough years too but finally gets his head on straight. I especially love the extended epilogue.

I only bought this book because it was the last in the series and I wanted to see how things were wrapped up. The characters were the same as the last few books, the alpha male with a complete opposition to adding a 'g' to the end of words and the chick with high heels, big hair, and lots of silver. Merry had some serious issues to deal with that took exactly 2 conversations to get over and move on. Cher was full of attitude and quick comebacks with no actual personality. There were 4 different dramas going on that had to be resolved, none of which I could make myself care about. And the resolutions all pretty much induced an eye roll (much like you'll see most of the heroines in KA books do regularly.)
The truth is that I'm just over KA books because they really seem to be the same basic characters in every book, she just changes the names and occasionally their hair. This is probably the last one for me.

This was a DNF for me and I hate that I couldn't make myself read the whole book. I've loved most of Kristen Ashley's previous books ("At Peace" is probably my favorite). The plots are fine, but her writing bugs the ever-loving heck out of me! It ruins her books for me. "Got shot of," "cake" instead of money, "scrape him/her off," the lack of pronouns at the start of sentences (I, you, etc.), "gorgeous," "honey," "get good," "get happy," hands/arms spasming. No matter who's talking, it's the same jargon over and over and over again. Her Ivy-league educated characters talk the same way as those who only have their HS diplomas - in poorly structured, incomplete sentences. It makes no sense to me. I'm tired of it. I'm tired of having to re-read sentences two or three times to understand them. Gah! That's my soapbox rant. I hope others enjoy the book more than I did. KA, please, I beg you, re-evaluate your writing.

I have been trying to organize my notes for this review for some time. They are all over the place, kind of like this book was. So I apologize if this isn’t a well presented review, but my notes went from bad to frantic as I read. When the book ended, I apparently went into a maniac state and wrote until I exorcised the book from my system.
What happened??? It’s like KA is just phoning it in now. It’s my KA favorite series and the last two books sucked - more than Cher did in this book. Pun completely intended. I’m pretty sure Cher had a metal hinge installed in place of her jaw to accommodate all the activity going on in there.
Throughout my notes I discuss how much I dislike these characters. The fact of the matter is that I didn’t care for them in the earlier books and that didn’t change with this book. I felt absolutely no connection with either protagonist. I’ll start with Cher…
Cher
First of all, when did she become so close to all of the guys in the ‘burg? In this book she was elevated to Feb status. I don’t recall her ever being so revered.
And what is with the tough-guy act? I think she is meant to sound worldly and rough around the edges, but it comes across as classless and crass.
But here is where I really ran into issues with her… the one thing that Cher and I actually have in common is that we are both mothers. But alas, I could not relate to her there either. Why didn’t she fight for her kid? Or feed him? And her childrearing in general left much to be desired.
Seriously, she was not a likable character.
How she was intimidated by a druggie and his crazy wife I’ll never know. But after reading soooooo many pages of self-deprecating inner monologues, I guess I should understand. Since I didn’t like her, I just didn’t notice.
Lastly, (for now,) the way Cher spoke was just wrong. It was like Freaky Friday in her home with her being this petulant teenager and her 10 year son handling everything. His voice was that of the adult and she was just happily remained a ridiculous woman-child.
Which brings us to…
Merry
Once again, I had no connection to him whatsoever. He was even kind of a loser in the past books. The guy who let a good woman get away while he sulked about his past. So why was I supposed to care about him now? The book opens with him pining for his ex while drinking his sorrows away. Obviously this is the perfect time to seduce him and hope for a relationship to grow. (There’s that great Cher logic fast at hand for you!)
And while I’m here, can I just state that every hero/heroine does not need a nick name. Merry? Really? At least it’s not Ham & Cookie this time.
Merry… and his mom’s death… and the darkness that plagues him. I can’t even… Didn’t I already read that storyline? Oh wait, was that his sister? I don’t know. I’m just going to blame it all on Mia, which seems to be the best way to dismiss things in this book.
Cher & Merry
I never saw the close friendship between Cher and Merry. The book started. They got drunk and hooked up. The next morning, she’s buying him coffee and hoping to talk about their relationship. There was nothing in the way of relationship development – unless you count a few weird conversations, but I’ll get to that.
Also, the sexy talk was silly and sophomoric – felt cheap. It certainly didn’t sound like two adults, friends who admired and respected each other. It was like teens who were seconds from dry-humpng just to get a release.
The Rest…
The exes… What the hell??? So Mia went from the girl everyone wanted Merry to reunite with to a horrible woman? And even the reasons she was supposed to be selfish horrible felt forced. Cher’s ex and his new wife? What was that? Let me tell you something, someone threatens to take my child from me? I sure as hell wouldn’t wallow in my own self-pity. This is the time you set pride aside and call in every favor you have and more. And how exactly can she question her friend’s allegiance? First of all, the book TELLS us over and over that they love this chick (regardless of what anyone felt in previous books – because in this book we don’t worry about past storylines,) and secondly, if they took her in after she was shacking up with their town serial killer, I am pretty sure they will back her in a custody battle. Apparently her character is A-Okay in the ‘Burg.
And did I read that correctly? She and Merry have a check and balance payment system to keep their favor to blowjob ratio fair? That sounds reasonable… and not at all like prostitution. Or a really immature way to be near each other without discussing your feelings. Either way, it sounds like a solid foundation for a relationship.
Frankly, I am a bit heartbroken. I loved this series so much and the last two books were not even close to the same caliber as the rest. I didn’t care about Merry and Cher in earlier books and I felt like KA looked around and thought, “Well, those two are left over.”
And why are all of her characters now suddenly involved in some sort of subculture or “taboo” lifestyle? Everyone happens to be a biker (or related to one,) or a stripper (or owns a strip club,) or a pimp, etc. I loved SOA as much as the next person, but I can’t figure out what Jax, Lyla and Nero are doing in my KA books. SMDH I mean, the magic that was KA started with women like Indie Savage. A girl, who owned a bookstore, loved rock and roll and was full of bravado… even when she shouldn’t have been. Lee was a bad boy turned good… except in the bedroom ;) Although all different in some way…ish, I could relate to them and found their normalcy and quirkiness fun. If Cher was supposed to be darker, she missed the mark. I REALLY didn’t care for her character in the previous books and this book made it worse. She is a constant victim. She’s weak. And no amount of writing made me like her any more.
In conclusion, this book was definitely not for me. I know many loved it and I am so glad that they did. For me it felt like KA shoved everything in this last book. I was pretty sure that my obit was going to read: “DEATH BY DESCRIPTIONS – woman dies reading about how kick ass a couch was.” I was bored many times while reading. I skimmed at times. I didn’t want to. I wanted to love this book as much as others did.
I’ll always have Joe.
1 star for Joe being there. Pair it with a Fat Tire beer and dozen Hilligoss donuts. Cheers!

i thought this book was as bad as The Promise and really the last 6-8 books KA has written. i thought cheryl and merry talked and acted like high schoolers. cheryl with her self esteem bashing which is constant in the first 20% of the book got totally annoying and then she does a 180 and gives everyone "gooey" and how many times in the last few books has there been a "girls call to arms.. all hands on deck i need a dress for my fancy dinner date"... the whole "quit being perfect and awesome and smart and sweet and hot".. this is kind of where she has gone the last 6 books or so.. you would not find dialogue like this in Sweet Dreams, Mystery Man, Lady Luck, At Peace...(which are her best efforts) this was silly and not really believable.. i mean we find out that merry and mia have been having sex while divorced... how messed up is that.. and then one night with cheryl and one week later merry knows he's done with mia and it's now cheryl??? these books KA really only has to write less than half the book because the dialogue is just cut/paste, change the name of the characters.. every sentence ends in "honey" gorgeous" brown eyes" honey-sicle, endearments are special because they are not supposed to come after every sentence. i think i am done with KA for a while... i always buy the books hoping for the old KA magic, well i think i am convinced she is now just churning out the same book, different title and she has enough of a fan base that will always buy it... it's kind of lazy how her phrasing, dialogue has not changed even if the ages of the characters are years apart.

No surprises here! Without even seeing the book cover, title or author's name, it's almost a sure bet that Hold On could easily be identified as one written by Kristen Ashley. Her storylines most likely will always encompass the same style, themes, characterizations, settings and dialogues -- especially within the same series.
That being said, the Burg series has been one of my favorites and, for the most part, I did find myself smiling and enjoying the expected humor and alpha heroics throughout. I liked both Merrick (but detested & refused calling him "Merry") and Cher. I like a strong female lead that stands her ground and Cher, though starved for love, was definitely strong and admirable in her efforts toward giving her son, Ethan, a solid life. Together Merrick and Cher worked well for me -- and they certainly burned the sheets together. I also liked that Merrick was sincere in his feelings toward Ethan giving him time and a good influence as well.
KA's latest release fit the mold and, though I didn't find anything new or earth shattering, it was a pleasant enough read. It was slow in places and I didn't find myself overly eager reading it. It certainly wasn't my favorite but I did enjoy how Ashley closed this series out with a finale of happily-ever-afters.
It must be said that the Epilogue is one of the most cleverly contrived I've ever read. It should leave readers with a smile from ear-to-ear -- especially for those who are big fans of this series!

Kristen Ashley used to be my favourite author, the first book of hers I read was 'For You' closely followed by 'At Peace' and I was hooked. But while Joe/Cal will always hold a special place in my heart I've found the author's books disappointing of late to the extent where I've stopped reading any new ones and just stick to re-reading my favourites when I want my fix.
I never intended to read this book I've never been a huge fan of Cheryl or Merry and so at best I figured at some point I'd maybe skim it for Joe and Colt.
Long story short after a conversation with a friend I found myself committed to reading this.
I started skimming, I found the Kristen Ashley alpha male talk annoying and to be honest my heart just wasn't in it. But then I realised that at some point I'd stopped skimming and started reading, I'm not sure exactly when this happened but it did.
There's some great characters here, Joe, Vi, Colt, Feb, Tanner, Ethan and particularly Ryker I absolutely love Ryker.
Like I've said this wasn't my favourite couple but it made for an interesting read what I did like were the epilogues, in fact I loved the epilogues and that's the reason for the extra star.

Help! I'm trapped in a KA vortex, and I can't get out!
I've read a lot of KA recently as well as re-read some. I can't get you gone Ride Steady and Walk Through Fire. Beauty. Chin lift. Look down at the floor. Hand on my neck, your neck. Somebody's neck?
This review is a place holder so I'll know I've read it.
Heroine is an ex-stripper, mother of the year, with a deadbeat ex married to an insufferable Bible beater that wants the plot moppet/son.
The H is a divorced mess that has a ONS with the h where the angel's wept and he's reborn despite saying initially it was a cheap ONS they both knew going in. But no. Now it's not, and he has a gigantic Christmas tree with pink ornaments on it and the longest epilogue ever about characters I did and did not know.

Anyone who knows me knows that if I had to pick one author as my number one favorite, it would be Kristen Ashely. I love her writing, her characters, her stories- everything about them are fantastic. Hold On is the sixth and final story of her Burg series. We met Cher Rivers and Garrett Merrick early on in the series and they are both characters I’ve wanted to read more about. The fact that Cher has a fantastic son named Ethan just made the book that much better.
Cher Rivers has been through so much. If you’ve read the first book in this series, you know her background. The past is behind her now, and it’s just her and her son Ethan. She has a job she likes, friends she adores and a son who means everything. She’s happy. The only thing that could make her more happy than she is would be catching the eye of the one man she’s always wanted since she's been in the Burg. Merry.
Merry has an ex-wife things are complicated with. He also has a horrific past. He never really saw Cher as the girl for him, then one night everything changed between them.
I loved so much about this story and this couple. It takes a little time for Cher and Merry to get it together, but when they do, it’s beauty. The relationship between Merry and Ethan was my favorite of the book. Cher had the best kid and I loved how Merry stepped up and developed a relationship with him. Merry was a great hero, but Cher was by far the best. I think she’s my favorite heroine of this series. There was nothing I didn’t like about her.
Kristen Ashley writes like no other. Her stories are beautifully descriptive, her men are alpha and strong and her heroines kick butt. This is why she’s my favorite. She has a style all of her own and I love her for it. The story itself was overall a 4 star read. There were so many parts I loved, but there were also a few things that dragged a bit and were predictable. I listened to the audio version and the narration was very good. The epilogue… that was KA at her finest. 5+ stars of epic material from all our favorite characters of the Burg.

The end of a series is always hard, but when Cher gets her HEA with Merry…all good things occur along the rough, rocky and rude road of their love.
Let us start with the back story: Cher and her junkie ex made a bump, but it was Cher and her blood, sweat and lap dances that brought him up a great kid! Cher did anything and everything to feed, clothe and shelter her boy. So when her ex shows up and begins making demands with none too subtle suggestions that a stripper (former-stripper) is a bad mother…I was ready to throttle him. Thankfully, Merry was there and he set the whole crowd straight. The law is on Cher’s side and morally and ethically, Cher was an awesome mom. Score one big for Merry!
Merry, Garrett Merrick, was married to Mia…but let’s be honest…Mia is weak, selfish, bratty and a total bitch. When Merry got shot of her, he did it with Cher. Now, a one night stand with one of your best friends doesn’t normally turn into something, but there was just something left between them. I cried my eyes out on like page 8 when Cher wanted the one night stand to be more…Read the book…you will get it.
In and out of the stories and drama of others, these two weave their love story. Cher is just too tough, too strong and sooo vulnerable. I loved how her hope never failed and she longed for more. More touching was that her son wanted more for her, especially happiness and love. That was the beautiful part of this story. Cher and Merry wanted to be happy, Cher and Ethan wanted to be happy, and Ethan and Merry wanted to be happy…I loved that!
The twists and turns along their path made for some good intrigue, great dialogue and even better lovin’. I enjoyed all the previous characters coming and going through the story, but the epilogue rocked it. Read the book! Enjoy!

I believe I am going to say what everyone has said about this book but, such a bittersweet experience! Hold On is Kristen Ashley’s last book in The ‘Burg series and, let me tell you, what an amazing way to end it! This was not my first series by this author (it was a love at first “read” with her Colorado Mountain series) but these stories and these characters have grown on me througout this time. I loved every single one because KA gives her readers such fantastic, profund, emotional characters.
So, since the beginning I’ve been waiting for Merry’s story (KA is always giving hints through her books ;) ), and here we have it. Hold On is the story of two people giving a second chance to love: Garret “Merry” Merrick (a sexy man and cop who finds no exit to stop loving his ex-wife) and Cher a.k.a Cherie Rivers (a woman who lives for her son and the secret love she has for Merry).
“Merry?” I called.
He looked back at me and lifted his brows.
“You mean the world to me,” I whispered.
His eyes flashed again, the emotion rolling over his face, and his hand, still at my ankle holding it around him, tightened.
“I’m not gonna let go,” I promised. “I’m not gonna let you push me away. I’m keepin’ you with me.”
Again, as I said many times about KA, one of the things that I love about her writing and her characters is their familiarity. It is beautiful what Merry, Cher, Ethan and the whole family built. Even though both the main characters have a difficult past (full of drama), they surpass it and they are able to keep it together. They have amazing chemistry, as a couple and as a family, and you can see it througout the book.
Now, I am sure a lot of readers have said this but the best part of Hold On is the epilogue. THAT EPILOGUE. That was PERFECT. Ashley is the queen of good epilogues but this one, this is one (or THE one) of her best. This is Kristen Ahsley at her best! Beautiful to read about every single character in this series (some amazing things happen, I wanted more more MORE!!), and at the end, I am sure (if you read it) that you will end up like me: crying like a baby.
“Thank you.”
She was still whispering.
“For what, Cherie?” he whispered back.
“For making me happy.”
His brown-eyed girl.
Therefore, my rating (obviously) is 5 STARS, and let me tell you part of it is because of THAT EPILOGUE. I can’t even. Really. I AM IN LOVE. So sad to say goodbye to this amazing series, to these wonderful characters because if KA wants to she has many other super-interesting characters to write about! So, what more can I say, just give yourself this gift and READ THIS BOOK AND THIS SERIES, totally recommend!! <333

This review is a review that I feel may not properly do the book justice. I say this because it's presented as a stand alone novel, however from my personal experience in reading this book. If you haven't read the past books you won't be able to fully connect to characters. While they explain past events you still feel left out and that stopped me from personally being able to fully connect to the characters. There is a history there between these characters that again if you haven't read the past books you will be left feeling incomplete. I couldn't fully get into the book and for that reason I'm giving this book 3.5 stars. I'm giving it 3.5 stars (reviewing as I read) because the writing was good, but if I can't connect to the characters then that hinders my enjoyment of the book.
Also, because it isn't until like I was 73% into the book that it picked up, and I was able to see this book as a regular book I suppose. So then it went to 4 stars but then it got to the end of the book and all this summarization of the book and characters happened. I was once again so lost that I just started to skip so the book went back down to 3 stars, and then I got to the portion of the characters of this book and I got the end of them so it popped up to 4 stars, but then I realized I spent most of the book feeling no connection so I ended up with giving this 3 stars. I normally end my reviews with if I think you should buy the book or not, however this time I'm going to say. If you're interested in getting this book read the other books so that you'll be better acquainted with the MANY characters that are mentioned or current characters in this book. This is one of those you have to read it for yourself and form your own opinion about it books.

Kristen Ashley knows how to go out with a bang! Hold On is the final book in The 'Burg series and KA wasn't dicking around writing this finale, saving the best for last!
Garrett "Merry" Merrick is a Detective, divorced several years, carrying what he thinks is a torch for his ex, saddled with baggage from the torturous death of his mother and just getting by. Cher Rivers has her own demons, but her skeletons are far from her closet after she was duped by a serial killer ex boyfriend. Trying to raise a son on her own, Cher sees herself as one of those who will never realize her dreams and doomed to the hard life. Thus, she adopts a hard exterior and becomes the 'burgs "tough girl."
Merry and Cher have a tough road to travel, with Cher's help, Merry realizes his ex wasn't worth the time he wasted on her, Mia wanted her man chasing after her, giving their all to her and she wasn't planning to give anything back. No heart there to give to Merry, just a spoiled brat wanting to take. She doesn't go down without a fight and she's one I wanted to bitch slap (her dad too.)
Cher is an awesome single mom- I mean COOL mom. Despite all she has struggled through in her life, she is a caring, loyal friends who loves fiercely those in her inner circle. She has a terrible ex-boyfriend and father to her son Ethan. He is a druggie with a cuckoo new wife hell bent to take Cher's son away from him to give him a saved life. Mama Hen Cher is awesome! Don't mess her a woman's kid! Loved this side of her- Ethan and Cher were adorable mom/son! He was so street wise, funny and just all around sweetheart!
Ryker's role in this book was awesome. Loved the protective, overbearing, matchmaking... the crime drama part of this book, as always with KA books, was fascinating to read!
Merry and Cher's romance while adapting to a child was sweet, hot, sexy and funny. These two together were perfect! Merry falling in love with Cher and her son was super cute. Root for these two from the get go! Ethan craves the attention and love of a male father figure and Merry was perfect for the role.
It was a slow, sad read for me knowing this was the end. I tried to savor every word. I felt like crying the ride was over. But catching up with the families down the years was great! I guess it's time to find a new book family, but I will be back to visit The 'Burg, my family here will not be forgotten! So long for now friends! Hope to catch up with you at Hilligoss sometime!

Way better than book 5. The characters and story in this book are more along the lines of what we see in the majority of the Colorado Mountain or Dream Man series than what is seen in most of this series, which is a huge plus as far as I’m concerned. There is a bit less on the suspense side than in those series, but the rest is similar.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this one as I wasn’t a fan of Merry in Rocky’s story, Golden Trail. I also wasn’t so sure about Cher’s character from what bits about her showed in previous books either. Merry’s character is much better presented here and Cher actually comes out way stronger than I expected, so I was relieved.
The suspenseful aspects in this book seemed a little bit more random and almost forced into the romance parts to give it that extra we expect, but they just kind of frustrated me a bit. The part of the story line about Ethan’s dad was really intriguing initially, but then it kind of falls flat. Same thing with the ex, Mia. Either of those would have been fine, if lacking a more fully rounded out line, but I wasn’t a big fan of the major drama really getting only lightly touched on and then, bam! That is where the forced feeling kind of blew up because it just didn’t make a ton of sense. It is as though there needed to be a tie to the first book, so there was this random thing that got tossed it there to make it work.
I loved the romantic line of this story, though. The Merry and Cher characters came out way more balanced in their relationship than we’ve seen from other pairings in this series and their story absolutely worked for me. Both having their issues, but neither one really having those issues become a huge thing for either of them just emphasized their strength as characters.
It was also really great, since this was the last book in the series, that we kind of got a last taste of all the other characters in this series and how their lives ended up. Totally teared up several times to the point where I couldn’t see the words for a bit in places, it was just that awesome. It was a great way to finish this off.

I put off reading Hold On. Not because I didn’t want to read it, but because I didn’t want the series to end. I love, love, love Kristen Ashley’s books, and this series was no exception.
Cher is introduced at the very beginning of the series in For You (book 1) and is an integral character in the Colt/Feb storyline. Garrett ‘Merry’ (seriously, why would any hot, alpha-type guy let anyone get away with calling him Merry?) Merrick’s story is fully introduced in the third book, Golden Trail. Cher and Merry’s story builds over the course of books four and five as side plots. This is important because Hold On is hard to read as a stand alone if you aren’t familiar with the back story. KA does not go into detail on the backstory - she references it and builds on it, but she does not rehash it.
I thought for sure Hold On was going to be about Merry reconciling with his ex-wife because that’s what KA focuses on in the other books. Merry’s ‘one’. Obviously it’s not, it’s about Cher and Merry (I’m not giving away any spoilers here, it’s in the description). I wasn’t sure how that was going to work out because I was never sure what to think of Cher in the previous books. She’s not painted in the best light and never comes across as a sympathetic character. You don’t read her side story and think, ‘oh, she’s going to get a happy ending.' You get an entirely different sense of her in Hold On as a single mother, deserted by her boyfriend when she was pregnant, struggling to do anything she legally can to support her child. She’s a much more sympathetic heroine in this book. She’s still got edge and attitude, but you see the soft, gooey center she keeps hidden from the rest of the world.
As always, Kristen Ashley does a stupendously brilliant job breathing life into her characters. You fall into their stories and their lives. You want to meet them, have a beer with them, drive by the businesses described in the book just to see if you can spot their real life counterparts (I know that sounds kind of stalker-ish, but there are Rock Chick tours in Denver…I’m just saying). You laugh and cry along with the characters. You feel the love and pain and the depth of emotions the characters feel. It’s just great storytelling. Period.
All that being said, this book was wayyyyy longer than it needed to be. There was just too much conflict; too many antagonists; too much going on in these peoples’ lives. Between Cher’s kid’s birth father and his whack-a-doodle wife; Cher’s neighbor; Merry’s ex; and serial killer fan freaks there was just too much. Something could have been pared down a bit. Especially given the end plot twist had a lot of similarities with the end plot twist of Sweet Dreams (Colorado Mountain series #2). I hate to say it, because I do honestly love her as an author, it seemed like KA recycled some of the drama from other series’ storylines.
Another thing that bothered me is her male leads have become very interchangeable. They have the same mannerisms, the same stilted style of speaking (seriously, full…complete…sentences…with a verb and pronoun, please), the same alpha-male badassness. Fans of Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will recognize his influence in the colloquialisms she employs in a lot of her dialogue (something I’ve said in previous feedback). It’s very easy to pick up on when you’ve read a lot of her books, especially any of the series after the Rock Chicks.
I still loved this story. I still recommend Kristen Ashley as one of my all-time favorite authors. Reading Hold On was bittersweet since now I know there are no more ‘Burg stories in the future.

This is the second book I've read by Kristen Ashley. I didn't care for the writing or plot in the other story I read by her, but this one was miles better. It still has it's issues, but the characters make a lot more sense to me in terms of their development and reactions. Our heroine felt relatable for the most part, but her reactions toward the end of the book were a bit over the top. Our hero was okay as well. Neither character was really my cup of tea overall, but I was able to get into the story and what drove them. The plot was pretty straight forward. I was impressed by the development. Everything unfolded in a way that kept pulling me in, made me wanna stick it out to the end. I thought the crime and police aspect of the novel was nicely done. Our MC has an interesting history and I like the way her past is used in the story and drives her decision making. The one thing that drove me absolutely crazy and made it hard to get through the last 40% was the way the characters speak. Do people really speak like this? I'm from the south and I'm not buying it. It seriously gets old fast. All in all, a pretty okay read to pass the time with.

This book was a gift from a dear friend and now I must say: thank you Jacqueline, we had a great time my couch and me, reading Merry and Cher’s story!
As many other readers, I’m a fan of Kristen Ashley. Her books are the perfect remedy when you suffer from a book hangover and want to go back in the saddle, find your usual reading mojo. For alpha lovers like me, she writes some of the best alpha characters: all bossy, protective, determined and male.
Merry didn’t disappoint and Cher is one of her feisty, smartass and determined heroines.
A warning though: this book is the last of her “Burg” series and it would be better to read the other books before this conclusion. I did not and I was a little lost in the beginning as all the side characters are main characters in one or another book and they build their relationships throughout the series. I had first to understand who was Colt to Cher and Merry; who was Vi and Feb and… what happened to Cher in the past and what Merry went through. Not an impossible feat but if you can, begin with the first book.
Once I got my bearings… I had a blast.
The plot is quite simple, built around Cher and Merry’s budding romance but it’s beautifully executed as Merry and Cher each have demons to battle: trauma from past events for both, an obnoxious ex-wife determined to reclaim Merry and an ex- lover/father of Cher’s son (Ethan) pushed by his wife to get sole custody of said boy.
As all the male characters are in police enforcement or PD or… you can add some neighbor working for the local mobster, murder and kidnapping to spice it all.
What I really enjoyed:
-Merry’s “change” from a womanizer with “his head in is a**” to that man who’ve seen the light and discovered Cher was in love with him and she was tough so she could “hold on” and help him fight his battles. It’s said it’s never too late but it took him time!
-Cher was sarcastic, tough but she loved her son and protected him like a mama bear would protect her cub. She was alone to raise him and did everything she could to put clothes on his back, food in his belly and a roof above his head. Everything being a stripper if need arise. You’ve got to admire these mothers, who had no luck in life but sacrifice everything to raise their kids properly even if they are often seen as “lesser beings”.
Cher made bad moves in the past, she’s been wild, chose the wrong men but she did learn from her mistakes and raised an incredible little boy;
-The friendship was incredible and heartwarming. All the side characters are really close together. They help and protect their friends and they were a wonderful support to Cher. They all had her back and I felt all warm inside thinking about such tight knit community where no one is alone in his misery.
-Ethan was a great kid. Too good to be true maybe, too wise would say some but… whatever. This is a fiction and it was good reading about such perfect sweet little boy;
-All the alpha male characters. It was like a super charged alpha male fair. Handsome hunk with a scar marring his gorgeous face, big mountain of a man very intimidating with a soft spot for donuts with sugar powder,… take your pick. Every man was his own kind of badass with feisty women by their side. Testosterone must have oozed from my Kindle at some point and I would not have been surprised to see any female neighbor glued to my windows, attracted like moth by a flame.
-My HEA. It’s very important to get my “they lived happy ever after” and in this one last book, fans of the series will have bonus epilogues with all what the future will hold for the main characters and their kids.
So now, ready, get set …read!

You know how KA's books are sometimes so long? Well, I love that fact. In the case of the 'BURG series.. These characters became so real to me I became attached to them! Merry and Cher? These are not your everyday characters. They're so unique that they require your full attention or else you'll miss something. I can definitely say that in Rocky's book, I didn't even see Merry and Cher being a couple.
They took me by surprise and damn... WHAT A SURPRISE!
Cher definitely has the strength of a woman that I would want to become. She's can stand tall and face foes with her head held high. I can definitely say that she shows her true colors through and through. She has a stubbornness to her that is cute and beloved by many however, it's also one of her flaws. I won't divulge any further info about that, but know that I warned you. Haha! She is pretty stubborn and there are times that you won't like what she's doing... to herself really. What I love about her though is how she is with her son. She raised him with a coolness that most will just love. She's definitely the mom + dad figure! She's cool and yet, still can be stern with rules. She will do anything, purely anything for her son and that's a grand thing in my book. She's actually the star of this book! I'm telling you! :)
So there.
We have Cher. Badass woman. Very likable character!
Now we move on to Merry...
Merry is a wonderful human being with all his values intact. As a cop, I think he likes what he do mainly because it brings him a sense of justice even though most of the time, it's no fun at all. He's very attuned to his environment. I think it's in his genes to protect people. He has his own demons, sure.. but who doesn't, right? His issues run deep and when I say deep, I mean slap-him-kick-him-in-the-ass kind of deep. It's a really good thing that Cher is the way she is because she can handle all that. It's one thing that you have to look forward to. Merry and his own brand of hot is a force you don't reckon with. You have to read this book, if only to see what lengths he'll go to be the man for Cher. He's sweet, yet tough, thoughtful, yet very stern sometimes. He's a good mixture actually. :) You'll love him!
Their circumstance is unusual. I mean, they were close friends and just friends for a long time. Merry being all hung up on his ex, which frankly, I still don't approve. lol. Nobody does. When they finally get together, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR FRIENDS are HAPPY. However, there's a certain uniqueness to their pairing. Sometimes it felt as if it was Cher who's at the top of their relationship, but then most of the time, Merry would handle their current dilemma and I say to myself, he's got this. He might need a lot of understanding, but he sure got it right in the "showing your feelings" part.
Anyway, who cares about who handles the relationship.. the most important part is that they work, right? Damn awesome!
I have to say that I'm also very happy with the amount of time that they spend with their friends and loved ones in this book. I love it that it didn't revolve around just them. It revolved around their ties with other people and it makes the book extra special to me.
So there. I'm not giving out any more spoilers. Just know that you'll probably hate two or three characters, but you'll ultimately love the main ones. If you have been following the entire series, BRACE YOURSELVES for the nostalgia. I SWEAR!!
This book made me happy and sad at the same time. Happy for each and everyone of them and sad because it ended. :( I like to think that with how Kristen Ashley works, there's a certain beauty to ending a series because when all of it has been read and done, it's time to start a new story. :)
I can say that I'll still go back to this one though. In any case, I have never ever NOT re-read a book by Kristen Ashley. This series won't be the first one.
5 perfect stars with sugar on top!!!

My heart is so full right now that it's nearly overflowing. When a series that has given me so much beauty comes to and end its bittersweet.
Kristen did perfect justice to Merry and Cher.
The way she brought these two together was absolutely brilliant. It was a delicate balance with Merry's past. Cher was not only a kick ass heroine, she was full on strong woman. At times that strength pushed her walls too high but thanks to inside and outside influences those walls stood no chance against what fate had in store for these two.
When Kristen creates a hero, she takes every part of what's good and solid in the world and adds in bad ass and attitude along with honor and loyalty. Garrett Merry Merrick was all of the above with some really smart-assed elements thrown in. He needed that edge and that sarcasm to deal with all that was Cher.
Merry was such a real man, one who wasn't afraid to take care of his woman and by extension everything and everyone who mattered to her. I simply kept wanting to shout YES so many times because this man really was perfect even when he wasn't. The heat in this book was above and beyond the hottest ever. There were blazing love scenes that left me feeling deeply and every single one had such profound emotional depth. Scenes that had me read them more than once. More than erotic, more than passionate. Sheer beauty that takes your breath away.
Then I could go on and on about the cast of fabulous characters that Kristen sprinkled throughout . From the painful yet healing conversations between Dave and Merry that had me in tears and gosh I just felt like my heart would burst. The sweetest moments between Merry and Rocky ..ahh the swooning that Merry caused. Such a loving brother and friend. Then Cher building friendships with the ladies of the Burg. So many laugh out loud moments. Even the funny moments between Merry and Mike.
Mike grinned at the windshield.
“Domestic bliss already?”
“Don’t know, but you’ll be the second to know when I do.”
Mike chuckled.
From laughing together and even when Mike pissed Merry off simply was authentic Kristen Ashley. The one thing I love about the relationships that this brilliant author creates is that they seem just real like friendships are realistic in the fact these guys might argue but in the end of the day they have each others back. Just like family. So every single character that showed their face in this epic read had my full attention. There was a star though and he wasn't a bad ass yet but was on his way to being one in full force. Yes, Ethan stole the show. That little man was amazing and brave. More names from so many books in the series that just added that Kristen Ashley fantastic edge. Love . passion, suspense and family this series will always be held dear to my heart. Seeing favorites and revisiting stories had me in tears that were bittersweet. Of course even though I wanted it to go on and on..the end had to come.
There is no one out there that can do magic in a epilogue like this superbly talented author. So many insights of the futures of our favorites and maybe hopefully .. Crossing fingers and toes ..insights in to future story lines.
No matter what Kristen .. Girl you are just full up with author badass brilliance. Write on lady..we can't wait for what you have in store for us.

Garret Merrick and Cheryl Rivers are two characters I fell in love with over the course of The ‘Burg series by Kristen Ashley and I can’t fully express the excitement I felt upon hearing that the sixth and final book in the series, Hold On, would follow their story. If anyone deserves a happy ending, it would be these two characters and the fact that they did so with each other is perfection, pure and simple. Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite romantic tropes and Kristen Ashley has proven herself to be a master at evoking that butterflies-in-the-stomach-y excitement of a new relationship alongside the easy comfort of a long-held friendship via Merry and Cher’s burgeoning romance. With a swoon-worthy romance, characters that inspire a fierce level of devotion, and pulse-pounding, hold-your-breath-'til-it's-over style of action, Hold On is a must-read conclusion to The ‘Burg series.
Merry and Cher are perfect examples of Kristen Ashley's unparalleled ability to create three-dimensional, complex characters with such emotional depth that you can't help but feel irrevocably connected to them. The two are much alike, hardened, yet sensitive, and armed with more emotional baggage than most people experience in a lifetime. Cher is sassy, confident, and effortlessly cool, while Merry is her male equivalent with his sharp-witted, no-nonsense, overprotective Alpha male tendencies. Their banter is teasing and shamelessly flirtatious, laden with curse words, yet adorable at the same time. Together, Merry and Cher are the perfect balance between badass and sweet – the type of sweet that's a bit coarse and unconventional, but nevertheless it left a wide smile on my face and melted my heart. The qualities that make Merry and Cher such good friends are exactly what make them click as lovers. Their mutual attraction, their combustible chemistry, the sparks that fly whether they're arguing or making love – all of this melds together into one emotionally turbulent, yet undeniably passionate romance.
Most contemporary romances are either character-driven, devote ample time to romance, or focus mostly on a subplot that adds depth to the narrative. A good book does well to balance these aspects but a Kristen Ashley book delves so far into the characters, the romance, and the plot that you get a story so engaging that your emotions are inexorably tied to theirs. There's something supremely satisfying in discovering that characters you'd hoped would be noble, kind, and, most importantly, loyal, not only meet but exceed your expectations, and Merry and Cher possess these qualities in spades, with the addition of their own unique flair. From page one to the very last sentence, Hold On held me captive, making me laugh, cry, and immediately wish for a repeat of the entire experience.

As a huge fan of all of Kristen Ashley’s work I was overjoyed at the chance to review Hold On the last entry to The Burg Series. Kristen Ashley is one of my top 3 favorite authors; I own all of her e-books and almost all of her works which have been released in print format as well. Looking at all those pretty books brings a smile to my face thinking of all of the enjoyment I have received from reading them.
Kristen Ashley exceeds at writing amazing Alpha male characters. These men may be over the top sometimes making you question your own sanity, yet you fall in love with each and every one, her formula works in a HUGE way. Merry aka Garrett Merrick’s character could be no less than all yummy alpha greatness, tragic events from his past have made Merry his own worst enemy as he sabotages his own chances for happiness out of fear. Cher Rivers is a single mom who has been knocked around by life quite a few times to the point that she has created a shell around her emotions and heart in an effort to protect herself. Together Merry and Cher will have to work together to beat back and defeat the demons that traumatic life events have littered them with, as well as other dangers they will encounter. Together they will fight to Hold on to the good they have found together.
As eager as I was to read Hold on it failed to meet my expectations of all I expect from a Kristen Ashley read. The book was a great solid read yet the majority of the book did not deliver the emotional response to which I have become accustomed. Usually I will lock myself away with one of her new releases and not come up for air until I have devoured every last scrumptious word, this book took much longer to get through. This being said I must bow down to Kristen Ashley as the Epilogue to end this series was EVERYTHING! The epilogue delivered on every level and then some, it was enchanting, full of wonder, love, loads of awesomeness and at times poignancy. This epilogue gave me all the feels, all the couples and characters we have met and become invested in throughout the series are revisited within the epilogue bringing yet another outstanding Kristen Ashley series to its end.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great romance. For The Burg Series followers It is a must read. I strongly recommend Kristen Ashley’s work as a whole to everyone. I am 100% positive that I am in need of therapy after this wonderful series. I hate it when perfect books come to an end and I hate it even more when perfect series come to an end…hence, the therapy. I am elated because I have this amazing series in my heart, I am sad because it is over.
Out of the entire series, Joe and Vi have been my favorite for a long time. There was just something about them that had me holding them close to my heart and then came Merry and Cher. I wouldn’t say that they have taken Vi and Joe’s spot but I will say that both couples are on an equal level of pure love for me.
Cher was strong and wonderful. A single mom and a kick-ass lady who has loved Merry from afar stole my heart immediately. Her love for her town, the residents in it, her family, and what she has built for herself was heart-warming. And then Merry walked into the scene. HOLY CRAPOLA! One of my absolute favorite KA men, hands down. That man just makes me melt in all different ways. Merry, a cop and recently divorced, starts to fold himself into Cher’s life after a drunken night. But first they are hesitant; these two characters have not had the best of lives with all of the sugar coating on top that one could ask for so why would they think they could have that together? They really don’t at first. It is a struggle for both to see that together they are perfect, separate they are just exist. Throughout the entire book, these two characters are constantly bogged down, knocked down, and found fighting for themselves and each other.
And gawd, their love for each other is what I want, what I aspire to have, what I need. Cloning Merry would probably be my best bet if it were even possible.
Can I just take this time to compliment KA on her writing, her characters, and her stories? She can just take me away, suck me in, and I will live and breathe with her characters. It is purely beautiful all the ways these books enthrall me. Her epilogue in this book had me in tears through the whole chapter. It was wrapped up in a nice, pretty bow for all to be touched by – not only for Merry and Cher but for all the ‘Burg’s residents.
From the first book I read from KA to the last she writes, she will always be one of my favorites.

The ‘Burg series is my ultimate favorite KA series. To say I was excited about Hold On would be an understatement as I knew going back to the ‘Burg with all my favorite KA alphas would nothing short of a funny, exciting adventure. I was not wrong.
Garrett Merrick. Where in the hell have you been all my life? Who knew Garrett Merrick would be such a funny, challenging, charming, sweet, dominant bad ass especially in the company of bad asses he keeps – that’s a high standard to meet. He reaches and meets it head on. Look out KA fans – Garrett Merrick gives better than he gets and it’s mesmerizing to read.
Cher Rivers. In a world full of sweet, sassy, beautiful women to compliment these alphas Cher stands out as the tough chick of the ‘Burg. Good thing Garret Merrick knows how to melt her in all and many of the best ways. Cher gives as good as she gets plus so much more. She’s his support, his companion, his smart ass mouth personified in someone else.
The two are perfectly matched. Their mouths, their wild, their passion, most of all their humor. Added to them Cher’s son Ethan and you get a candid, funny, sassy little family of fun. Merry and Cher’s story proves yet again why I love the men and women and their children residing in the ‘Burg. Fans of this contemporary romance series, you must read the entire series because you’ll get spoiled major plus it’s freaking fabulous so why wouldn’t you, will love Merry and Cher. It’s full of everything we love about KA.
Hold On not only was totally fabulous and fun but Kristen Ashley decided to absolutely dazzle to us with one of her EPIC KA-style epilogues. EPIC as in BEST. ONE. EVER! She made it so they’re all one big, happy family supporting each other, living their happy lives. She brought ultimate fans of this series full circle and doing it in a way I felt deep in my heart. Each and every KA badass, the women they love, their children – they’re all present give us KA style joy. I shed some happy tears at the end of the book and I’m sad it’s over but with KA I know more goodness will fill me up. Plus I can re-read the ‘Burg in its entirety anytime I want when I need to live, laugh, and love with The ‘Burg bad asses and the families they cherish.

OK I can't believe this is the end I am a bit sad- But to start BEST EPILOGUE EVER!!! Cher Rivers moved to the Burg with her son Ethan in the first book in the series and she has been a strong character throughout the series. Cher is a no-nonsense gal who says it like it is, is as rough as a guy and loves and protects her son with everything she has. Garrett Merrick (Merry) is a copy in the Burg he sleeps around still hurting over his divorce not quite over his ex- Mia. Everything changes when Mia gets engaged and Merry is at J&J's Bar with Cher closing and they have drank a whole bottle of the expensive whiskey. Cher and Merry go thru a lot of crazy drama in this story full of everything from crazy church ladies, stalkers, ex-wife, baby daddy troubles and brought me to tears. Fantastic ending to this series of books I am so glad I found and enjoyed. Go read them smile emoticon

This series will always hold a special place in my heart. At Peace was my first KA experience and these cast of characters feel more like friends than fiction.
Merry and Cheryl's story was classic KA; alpha male, feisty heroine, with drama at ever turn. A love story that you could feel coming off the pages and the cast of supporting characters from past books appearing. I loved it all.
But what really made this book for me was the amazing epilogue. KA is famous for them and this one by far is my favorite. So beautiful to see my favorite couples into the future with their family. We get to see some surprising development too and I am keeping my fingers crossed they will result in a spinoff! I am so sad to see this series end and I'm not ready to say goodbye yet. But with all KA books, I know we will see some of these guys again in future books. 5 Stars!

I enjoy KA writing style with Alpha males, romance with a side of quirky or sassy. Every story IMO has something that doesn't feel right. For me in this one was Merry sleeping with Cher and is going to tell Cher this is a one time thing to seeing something bad is happening with her and then he is bartering for friends with benefits. He redeems himself later stepping up to take care of Cher and Ethan and facing up to why his relationships with Mia did not work. I really enjoyed the epilogue to me this brought closure to all the characters in the series and made me laugh several times.

When I heard KA was writing a book about Cheryl and Merry I had to rack my brain as to who Cheryl was. I therefore decided to re-read the books in this series before I started this one - BIG MISTAKE..mistake because I re-read At Peace which to me, is the best book in this series and one of my favourite KA books so therefore, to start reading this poor excuse for a story straight after At Peace made Hold On seem like a very poor imitation.
Cheryl has now become Cher (irritating) and has apparently been in love with Merry for the last five years even though he is still hung up on his ex wife (his story featured prominently in Golden Trail where Tanner told him to fix things with his ex wife Mia). What KA should have done, is make this a secondary romance story in one of the other books as these two just weren't interesting enough to deserve their own story.
KA's stories normally take place over a long period of time and the pacing is always great. In this book, within a week of these two getting together they are in love and happy. By the end of the book they have still only been together 3 months. It would have been better if KA had paced their romance over a longer period of time. I didn't like that after their divorce Merry and Mia his ex had still been having sex. His story with the ex was not really explained or expanded on other than to find out that Mia didn't 'hold on' but Cheryl does. The prologue starts with Merry getting drunk after finding out Mia is now engaged to be married and leaving town yet after one night of drunken sex with Cheryl, he's over Mia and within a week in love with Cheryl? It didn't ring true for me.
KA excels at writing the children in her stories. In this book Cheryl's son, Ethan, is 10 nearly 11 but she wrote him like he was an adult and I couldn't connect with him, in fact, he irritated me the way he spoke. Merry also irritated me the way he spoke in the stilted way KA has her men talk. Cher spoke like she was a man 'Yo' etc..I get that she's supposed to be a tough cookie but to me, she was one of the worst KA heroines and I couldn't connect with her either. I didn't gel with Merry, Cheryl OR Ethan. I just found myself bored.
The sex scenes were lacking. These two spend more time texting each other than they did having actual telephone conversations or face to face conversations. I just didn't feel the romance. The instant love etc reminded me of the Rock Chick books and I'm not really a fan of those.
The story got boring really quickly especially the 'mystery' element and by the time we get near the end and have the usual 'kidnapping', I was rolling my eyes. It seemed like a lot of 'cut and pasting' had taken place in this story taking dialogue and plots from all the other KA books.
About the only thing I liked in this story were the parts where Joe/Cal featured. I've read a lot of reviews that praise the amazing epilogue. Well I wouldn't call it amazing but it featured Joe/Cal, Vi, Keira and Kate so that was enjoyable and the reason my rating went from 2 stars to 3. The epilogue takes us way into the future when the children are pairing up and getting married off.
I've said it before but KA needs to start making some changes and stop repeating the same old dialogue, sex scenes and plot lines and write something more original. She's a good writer but there is just something lacking nowadays.

Try reading the sample out loud to yourself. The dialogue is incomprehensible. Maybe if I read the other books I could better understand the content, but the dialogue is a nightmare to slog through. I think I read "blah blah DICK", "She did dick", "I did dick", "dick" about 4 or 5 times and the HEAVY use of slang terminology is so overused that my eyes kept veering off the page to escape the torture.
My opinion might differ from others, but I urge EVERYONE to read the sample.

This book was great. I've skipped around this series but I read Cal and Violets book over and over again. Cher always seemed like a bit of a big mouth but she was loyal and if she liked you she had your back. I felt so bad for her...especially when she has a breakdown remembering something Dennis Lowe used to do to her and she freaks on Merrick. So heartbreaking. But her and Merrick? Omg awesome. And the ending of the series with the mother of all epilogues???? Best ever.

Cher is a woman with some pretty rough edges and in the past has been a loser magnet. Merry is a policeman with his own issues. For any of you who have read the burg series these characters pop up throughout. However this match up seemed forced to me. I found the whole story lacking the rhythmic narrative of KA.As if she thought Well I opened my big mouth and said I was going to write another in the burg and then plonked it together.

It's always bittersweet to be writing a review of any Kristen Ashley book because that means you've finished it and are devastated that it's over. She is the only author I've ever read (and I've been reading for many, many years) who has never written a book that I didn't love. Some more than others, of course, but none that have not given me great pleasure. The entire Burg Series was fantastic and this was a splendid finale. Much as I hate seeing the series end, all good things must. There are lots of details in other reviews, but two things I want to especially address: I love the length of most of her books. If it's an excellent book that I'm totally caught up in, I want it to go on for a good long time. I will not even consider reading a book that is less than at least 250 pages as so many are these days. Point #2: This book had THE BEST EPILOGUE EVER!
I would be such a happy person if Ms. Ashley were able to write a new book every month. Since that is not possible, just sign me up for every new book she does write. Thank you for many hours of enjoyment over the years since I discovered you Kristen Ashley.

Not the best of KA and romances in general. I find that when stories rely so heavily on knowledge of previous books and characters from previous books, that it is best if the stories are published within months of each other. Long drawn out series have to be very good and memorable for any reader to retain the smaller details, especially if the author wants to go for cute every single time, as KA does, every single time. Then it just becomes a distraction that takes me out of the story. I think KA should have asked herself, will readers really care for Merry and Cher, after all they are almost carbon copies of previous pairs and the storyline more of less shifts but rarely changes. I read it because it was KA and Ethan was a sweetheart, unreal but still sweet, but I did not really care for the romance here, nor the characters of Merry (who wasn't really as amazing as everyone said, I would have loved him being less than perfect, as advertised) or Cher, and the epilogue that everyone else seems to like, just seemed to be a bunch of new names for me to puzzle over.

ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review
Once again, Kristen Ashley owned my heart and soul as her unique writing style and storytelling magic caused a whirlwind of emotions, I had no choice but to hold on tight, never wanting to let go of Merry, Cher and all my loves in The ‘Burgs. Reading Hold On took me to an entirely different level as the journey flooded my heart with a riotous amount of emotions. I’ve become tethered to these characters, feeling their passion, pain, heartache and joy. This friendship turned true love story was touching, but what made this an absolute literary masterpiece was its brilliant epilogue…the best I’ve ever read. So, break out the Kleenex, you’ll need them.
Jumping into this read had me feeling both melancholy and anxious. I was a bundle of nerves and couldn’t wait to crawl inside of Merry’s head. He fascinated me since Golden Trail (Rocky and Layne’s book). Throughout most of this series, he was pining over his ex-wife Mia, his supposed ‘soul mate’. I thought he wanted to fight and win Mia back. Next thing I knew, Cher’s really into Merry, but there were some unanswered questions. How and why did Merry push Mia away? When did a relationship with Cher become a possibility? Can Merry shake off his man-whorish ways and convince me he wants to win Cher’s heart? In addition, Merry’s story marks the end of one of my most beloved series, I had to get myself ready to say goodbye. With all of this in mind, I savored the hell out of this read. Taking my time to absorb every heart stopping drama filled moment, each plot twist, the hilarious banter between the main characters and every steamy love scene (Merry’s all Alpha-Dominant ass-smacking sizzling hot), while discovering the beauty of their relationship. I should never doubt the course KA lays out. Merry and Cher were perfect for each other, feeding their desires while soothing their insecurities and working through a s*** ton of baggage.
In a word, Cher “Cherie” Rivers is a survivor.
Former stripper turned bartender, Cher is a hard working single mom to the adorably witty Ethan. At first glance, she definitely gave me the tough chick, hard-as-nails vibe, which I adore (I tend to favor strong female leads). However, there’s so much more to her persona. She’s thick skinned, stubborn and overly cautious since dealing with so many disappointments in her life. She’s a woman whose experiences taught her the rough lesson that dreams do not come true. Poor Cher, she had my sympathies as well as my respect. I loved her realistic views towards life. She’s not a woman who wallows in life’s misfortunes, but one who perseveres and makes the most out of her circumstances. I admired her protective motherly ways – she sacrifices greatly for her son – and when digging deep, I saw her soft, ‘gooey’ side. Cher may be unrefined, but she is true to her family and friends. It’s her loyalty to Merry, when he was at his lowest, which led to a night of unbridled passion. After years of loving him from afar, her dream actually came true. Now she’s panicked that their one night tryst would either ruin the friendship or it could (hopefully) lead to something more…that means taking a chance on Merry. I so wanted Cher to finally find happiness and her dream man.
The extremely sexy, outrageously dominant Lieutenant Garrett “Merry” Merrick is the perfectly flawed, self-sabotaging hero.
The horrific way he lost his mom scarred him so greatly; deep-seeded fears from the trauma led to a failed marriage and crippled future relationships. When finding out his ex-b!tch-wife Mia (oh yeah, she’s a major b!tch-face) was moving on, Merry decided to have himself a pity party. The only person to have his back was Cher, which led to not only one night of hot sex and multiple orgasms, but also the possibility of more.
It took a tiny bit of time for me to warm up to Merry. He had a hard, uneasy side in the beginning of the story that had me on edge. There were times he pissed me off and I wanted to smack some sense into him, snapping him out of his funk. Although, it didn’t take Merry long to open up and show me all his beauty. I couldn’t help but fall in love with his gentle, protective side. I adored how hard he worked to break down Cher’s impenetrable walls, while trying his best to move past his fears. Merry also had me feeling all gushy the way he took Ethan under his wing and effortlessly became part of their small family.
Merry is a controlling and dominating force in the bedroom. Their fierce sexual chemistry ignited my kindle as Merry proved repeatedly that he is one hell of a dirty-mouthed badass who likes it when his good girl’s being bad. Totally scrumptious. I loved them together – both Cherie and Merry were powerful, dynamic characters that sometimes collided and were frequently sarcastic. They were as funny as they were passionate, and the things that came out of their mouths were hysterical.
Now there’s always that one person in each KA series that I refer to as ‘The Sage’. That one special character that puts everything into perspective by imparting their wisdom, which usually leaves me a blubbering mess. For me, it was Dave Merrick, Merry’s dad. Father and son shared an enormously tender moment that was forever seared into my soul. Dave, a man burdened with his own pain and regrets, lovingly takes his son’s hand and guides him into the light. Dave lays it all out for his son, telling him to grab hold and fight against these fears with the help and love of a strong woman… that woman being Cherie. It was one of the most touching moments in this read.
As I reached the 95% mark on my kindle, heart palpitations and panic set in when reading the one word that made me realize this is it…the end of an era…EPILOGUE. Holding my breath, I pushed forward and became fully engrossed in the best ending I have ever read, bar none. Told from various points of view and spanning over a decade, Kristen Ashley gifted a phenomenal insight into the lives and loves of all The ‘Burgs characters. Weaving each saga within this series together, tying all loose ends into one spool of thread, KA magnificently spun all of the happily ever after’s I craved. It was a beautiful pain seeing all these characters one last time. I laughed, I swooned, I cried happy tears (Joe Callahan made me sob…again), and I was overjoyed with the journey this author paved.

A great final to the Burg series that I have loved reading!!
Cher and Merry have been present from the beginning, both have been though a lot and it's so heart warming to see them find confort and love, acceptance, passion and basically come alive together. Ethan is an amazing boy and character that made me laugh so much. Just like everyone in the burg adding his or her matchmaking advice!! haha So much fun!!

"Amazing"
I absolutely loved Cher and Garrett 's story. It was full of action, romance and tons of humor. The evolution of their romance was perfect. Both had issues to work through but in the end they got there. There was plenty from some of past favorites and an epilogue to end all epilogues. We got to see into the future of all of our Burg couples. Absolutely a 5 star read.

Merry and Cher, it was a raw, but beautiful story. Made you laugh, made you cry. I had too so cause I ran out of snacks and drinks and also tissues.
Thank you Kristen Ashley for an amazing series. This Book is 90 stars.

I was excited to read this finale to this series, but was a bit disappointed. First, Cher has never been a favorite character of mine in the previous books. Her attitude is a bit irritating. I think I would have like to see Merry with someone else. Merry obviously had some issues, but there wasn't much said about it after one episode about it. I wasn't crazy about how the ex-wife was portrayed either. I think she was blamed for too much. There was too much dialog in this book that went nowhere. I would have like to have seen more of the Peggy/Trent drama played out. I have read most of Kristen's books more than once (not the paranormal one's since I'm not a fan if any paranormal ), but I will not read this one again. The epilogue was great.

Amazing, could not ask for a better ending to a series! I was so excited for Merry to get his HEA and Cher too, KA did not disappoint for sure. BUT THAT EPILOGUE! It took my breath away. Can't share too much with out giving away everything. Be prepared to get your socks knocked off.

I couldn't finish this! The writing is just horrible. It's like a high schooler in remedial English wrote it. Characters are not likable, Cheri talks and looks like trailer trash, Merry has zero personality and everyone speaks like high school drop outs who can only use a maximum of words to communicated.

This book was the end of the "Burg" series and I enjoyed it very much.
The thing unique thing about Kristen's writing are her Epilogues...when she ends a book or series, it's done. The questions are answered and the characters go on to live their best lives....it's like finishing a wonderful meal with friends.

The Burg' series has been a hit or miss for me personally. While I haven’t disliked any of the books, some were just mediocre for me. This book was pretty good, and I enjoyed it but at times I found it to be overly detailed. It felt like such a long read and there were long stretches in the plot where nothing of great relevance seemed to occur. I'm still glad I read it though. The epilogue was wonderful.

I love reading her books because they squally have some humor, some quirky characters, and a very good love story with enough suspense to make it interesting but not drag down my happy at getting to read.

***REVISED**** Received an ARC
Foremost, I'm going start with the epilogue. THIS EPILOGUE. It is one if not THE best KA has written and that's saying something coming from The Queen of Epilogues. It touches back to every couple from The 'Burg and their offspring throughout the years in the future. Everyone has their favorite characters and when you read what happens to your favorites, it'll be satisfactory. I won't say who mine are but I will say I did shed tears of elation. I laughed with some and smiled with others. I can't stress enough on how much I LOVE the way Kristen Ashley tells her stories. She has the knack to write about every day people with every day situations though some are a little crazier than others. She writes characters that you fall in love with, that you can easily identify with and with The End(I have tears while I'm typing this cause I'm thinking back on two scenes with...) to The 'Burg series; Kristen gave us a beautifully wrapped book series that will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Now that I've wiped my tears away, let's get to Garrett "Merry" Merrick and Cher Rivers. As friends who become lovers who eventually become more, it wasn't easy but it also wasn't difficult to get to where they are. They know each other as friends. They understand each other as friends. Cher is a straight shootin' woman who hasn't had an easy life but makes do with what she has. As a single mother she wants the best for her and her son but she thinks she'll never get it. Who she wants and who she's always wanted is none other than Merry. Merry has his demons. He never got over the death of his mother and that was the catalyst for his marriage to break. He needed to someone to be there for him, someone to fight for him but his ex-wife never did. After a drunk night together, Cher thinking, wanting it to be more while Merry thinking it was just a one time thing. After a heated discussion, their relationship takes a turn for the better but not without drama involving exes, battling demons and a psycho. It's good to see that Cher finally gets what she's always wanted and also that Merry was the one she got it from and vice versa. With their sexual history, you know their sexual chemistry is going to be intense and it's exactly that. Family and friends rally their relationship and it's good to see closure finally come to Merry and Cher.
This review was a hard one for me because while I enjoyed Hold On, I didn't love it. With a KA book, I can knock it out in two days tops, with this one it took weeks and I hated that. At times I found myself bored with certain parts of the story while in other parts, like I said, enjoyed it. I can't really pinpoint what it was about the story that didn't work, I just know that it's one of my least favorites apart from the epilogue which, for me, made the book. *shrugs shoulders*
