"Gone Too Far," by Suzanne Brockmann, is one of those guilty pleasure books. It is a romantic thriller featuring macho men and beautiful women in jeopardy.
Lt. Sam Starrett is a hunky Navy SEAL who had a terrible childhood living with an abusive and racist father. Sam was rescued emotionally and physically by a black friend, Noah, whose grandfather served as a surrogate father and role model. Sam's focus is now on his soon to be ex-wife, Mary Lou, and his baby daughter, Haley, both of whom have disappeared, presumably the target of terrorists. With the help of the love of his life, FBI Agent Alyssa Locke, Sam hopes to find Mary Lou and Haley. Alyssa, meanwhile, is romantically entangled with her boss, Max, who is still carrying a torch for a former hostage he once helped rescue during an airplane hijacking.
Does all of this sound impossibly complicated? "Gone Too Far" has a great deal more plot in its four hundred and fifty pages than Brockmann can comfortably handle. There is even a series of flashbacks going back to World War II describing the romance between Noah's grandfather and the woman who became his second wife.
Potential readers of "Gone Too Far" should be warned that this book has explicit dialogue and some very steamy romantic encounters. If the repeated use of expletives and detailed anatomical references do not annoy you, you may be put off by the many cliches and the lack of realism. However, in spite of its flaws, this novel's characters are undeniably charismatic, energetic, charming, and gorgeous. For fans of romantic thrillers that border on fantasy, "Gone Too Far" is an occasionally diverting romance that will provide a few hours of escapist reading.

although the historical/WWII aspect was less intense than in some of the previous books. This was fine, because with so much going on with Mary Lou, Sam and Alyssa, Max and Gina, Tom and Kelly, and the ending to the terrorist plot begun in the previous book, more interruptions aren't wanted/needed. Lots of tension and action and fulfillment for those of us who were patient with the previous book (which, while not my favorite, is pretty much required reading to fully enjoy this one). I'm looking forward to the next one. This is the sixth book in the Troubleshooter series. I can't wait to read the next book.

Some sequels are a real disappointment -- but not this one!! Ms. Brockmann tied everything together with this book. Not only do we find Alyssa and Sam's story -- which, by the way, gives us a great insight into the real man beneath Sam's "wise guy" exterior --but we learn more about Max Baghat's involvement with the highjacking victim from "On The Edge" and the main characters from "The Unsung Hero" finally tie the knot. While the plots of both today's story and the interwoven story from World War II are both well-written, I believe that Ms. Brockmann's strength is her ability to give life to characters that readers become involved with and can truly care about. I have been reading Ms. Brockmann since before the Alpha Squad stories that she did for Silhouette (a new one is on the way) and she had never yet written a book I didn't like. Ms. Brockmann's fans will love this one and new readers will be looking for the previous books! I can't wait to see where we go from here, since there was no teaser for a new book in the back of this one. Will we get more of the Troubleshooters of the Seal teams or are we going to go civilian? Please don't keep us waiting too long, Suzanne!!!

Don't worry, no spoilers here!
Once again, the queen of SEALS (and the princess of the "tease") has outdone herself! GONE TOO FAR fulfills all of our high expectations in just exactly what Sam and Alyssa's book should be. A lot of loose ends are tied up in this book...and of course Ms. Brockmann creates new "ends" to hopefully be tied up in equally intriguing sequels.
GONE TOO FAR contains so much great stuff, you'll read it again and again. (Certainly a keeper). You'll laugh, cry, gasp, sigh and scream because Suz KNOWS how to engage her readers. And if you haven't gotten into the SEALS series - -don't worry, this book does an excellent job of standing alone. You will, however, want the backlist!
I had extremely high expectations of GONE TOO FAR and I'm happy to say I was not let down. I am, however, anxiously awaiting Ms. Brockmann's next effort. She's put herself in the league of auto-buys with Linda Howard, Elizabeth Lowell and Nora Roberts.
Well done, Ms. Brockmann! More please!

I came across this series by accident, had never read Suzanne Brockmann, and I have had to rush through the first 5 to finally get to Sam &Alyssa's story! The parallel World War II stories are what initially drew me to this series. Amazingly, I had just seen a news report about the women flyers used during WWII and that's part of the parallel story in this book. But honestly, I stayed for the ending to Sam & Alyssa's story which started in book one.

I absolutely LOVE this series; otherwise, I NEVER would have even considered buying a hardcover. I prefer smaller paperback books, but Ms. Brockmann can be credited for providing such an interesting world within a fictional US SEAL Team that I couldn't possibly wait for the paperback! I had to know how the outcome of the cliff-hanger from the last book. I had to know how Sam was going to win Alyssa back, after following their nail-biting, teeth-grinding exploits throughout the other books in this series. I had to know how the investigation would end and whether Sam's estranged wife and beloved daughter were really dead in that house!
I'm happy to say Ms. Brockmann delivers on all those unanswered questions... once again providing a thrilling mystery interwoven with great characters and plenty of love. Old friends are revisited and new twists keep the pace going full throttle. And again, the flashbacks to a WWII romance are an added bonus. Thank goodness, Ms. Brockmann hasn't "Gone Too Far", but has plenty more stories of wonderful characters to tell. I now look forward to Max and Gina's story! But in the meantime, I'll reread the series start to finish... it's just that good! Worthy of keeping. For those who aren't familiar with the Ms. Brockmann's US SEALs... this team's tales are great stand-alone stories, but are even better as a series. Their stories are found in the following books (in order):
1. Unsung Hero about Lt Tom Paoletti
2. Defiant Hero about Lt JG John Nilsson
3. Over the Edge about Sr Chief Stan Wolchonok
4. Out of Control about SEAL Ken Karmody
5. Into the Night about Lt JG Mike Muldoon
6. Gone Too Far about Lt Roger "Sam" Starett
She does have another series of 11 books on a different sexy SEAL team, some of which are being republished too. These are shorter books, without the interwoven flashbacks of the newer series. They are, so far:
1. Prince Joe about Lt Joe "Cat" Catalanotto
2. Forever Blue about Lt C. "Blue" McCoy
3. Frisco's Kid about Lt Alan "Frisco" Francisco
and Night Watch (formerly published as Wild Wild Wes) about Chief Wes Skelly, which is coming in September 2003.
(There are nearly a dozen books in this older series, so only the few above are easily obtainable. Hopefully the rest will be released again too???!!!)

I have been anticipating Sam and Alyssa's story since their first sighting in UNSUNG HERO. However, when I finally read the book, there was hardly anything of Sam and Alyssa'a romantic relationship in it. There were so many story lines going on that there wasn't time for Sam & Alyssa. Though I am a huge S. Brockmann fan, I just don't think this book delivers the same intense passion and action as the ones that came before it. It definitely wasn't worth the paperback dollars, let alone Hardback money. I can only hope the next installment will redeem Ms. Brockmann, as I have greatly enjoyed this series(up until now).

"Gone Too Far" is the much-anticipated story of Navy SEAL Roger "Sam" Starrett and FBI Agent Alyssa Locke, the secondary characters who were first introduced in Suzanne Brockmann's "The Unsung Hero", first of the SEAL Team Sixteen books. From the beginning, Brockmann was setting up her readers for a roller-coaster ride of emotions with two of her now most popular characters. Wreaking havoc on their personal feelings for each other, the professional paths of Sam and Alyssa continue to cross through each of Brockmann's SEAL Team Sixteen books. Their clashing relationship became intense and intimate for one night in "The Defiant Hero". Due to lack of communication and fear of their true feelings for each other, they try to put that intimate encounter behind them only to meet up again in "Over The Edge" and relive their passion. Just when a budding relationship was seemingly on the horizon, the unthinkable happens, putting an end to any further personal relationship that may have developed. A glimpse of Alyssa's turmoil is focused on in "Out of Control", when she runs into Sam when working with SEAL Team Sixteen again. "Into the Night" goes into further detail of Sam's miserable homelife. The latter two books try to show Sam and Alyssa trying to move on with their lives.
Now in "Gone Too Far" Sam and Alyssa's story is told. It begins several months after "Into the Night" ends with Sam driving across the country to finalize personal matters. He stumbles across a dead body in a Sarasota home and discovers his daughter is missing. As a possible suspect in the murder and impatient to wait around to have the FBI solve this case, he goes off on his own to find his daughter. Alyssa risks her professional career and personal feelings to help Sam. Along this journey, they discover that they have never gotten over each other and finally come to terms with their feelings towards each other. Cleverly interweaving storylines and references from her previous books, Brockmann creates a story filled with emotion and suspense. SEAL Team Sixteen's quick-response to the assasination attempt in "Into the Night" questioned and is brought a subplot in "Gone Too Far". The secondary subplots are Tom and Kelly (the main characters in "The Unsung Hero") and Max and Gina (hostage negotiator and hostage, respectively, in "Over the Edge"). There is also back-in-time subplot (a Brockmann trademark) that involves a WWII romance, which ties with Sam's past. In "Gone Too Far", Sam and Alyssa's childhoods are explained and the reader has an understanding of how it has shaped them into the adults they are today.
A good story on its own, it is highly recommended that the previous SEAL Team Sixteen books ("The Unsung Hero", "The Defiant Hero", "Over the Edge", "Out of Control", "Into the Night"), be read prior to further understand and appreciate the the trials and tribulations of the angst-ridden duo. Brockmann has spun a complex tale with different subplots all interweaving with each other. Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke fans will not be disappointed.

A massive diasappointment and a waste of $13.
I love the Seal series that Suzanne Brockmann creates. It's full of passion and wonderful men that you just can't help but fall in love with (yes, even Jules!) With very few exceptions, I love her writing. Unfortuately for me and my pocketbook, this is one of those exceptions. I had been eagerly anticipating the next novel in the series, and, when I heard that it was about Sam and Alyssa, I debated long and hard and decided to buy the hardcover, instead of waiting desperately for it to become available in the library or as a paperback.
Sadly, this novel only rehashes the glimpses of Sam and Alyssa that made them so wonderful as a subplot in previous books. There is no substance, I felt no passion, and in fact, I couldn't read through it all. I read the first two chapters, jumped to the end, flipped through the book, and was so disappointed that I put the book down. I had no inclination to read it until my guilt over spending that much money (poor college student) forced me to try to get my money's worth.
I'm a readacholic and a fast one at that. If I like the book, I will sit there and avidly read for 3 hours until I'm done. I wasn't even willing to spend another ten minutes looking for an appearance of Jules or a sex scene.
The one bonus: Gina and Max are brought up again and they are so wonderful. If this book is any indication, I *never* want them to have their own book.
Final nail in the coffin: I never got my rebate.
Final words of advice: Wait for your library to get this book. Don't buy it. It's worth a trip to the library to stock up on this and other books, but not worth the money.

This is probably my favorite troubleshooters book yet. I think because we already know Sam & Alyssa so well and have been rooting for them for so long. I absolutely loved the backstory on Sam. I already loved Sam, but this book helped me know and love Ringo and Roger too. As always, Jules was great. The Gina/Max story is very compelling. The anxiety level was high, but it was as a little difficult to believe that Sam's head could be anywhere other than 150% on finding his child. I accidentally skipped the previous book and went back and read it after the fact. Skipping that book actually amped up the suspense of this one. Had I read them in order, I dont know that I would have liked it quite as much. All in all a good read. The WW2 story doesnt add much.

Who-ee, this one is a keeper! Exciting plot lines, great character development, wonderful WWII backstory. The fire at the end was rather fantastical, and Max seemed like a neurotic stalker who had no idea what he wanted but was determined not to get it (that sentence will make sense when you read the book), but I can overlook these flaws because the rest was so dang good!

This story was the most well-developed, the most believable of any. Having the history that was developed in previous books helps the reader appreciate the changes that Sam made in himself. Also, having it be domestic was a refreshing change. I'm pretty tired of K-stan where there's always mass destruction but somehow cellphones always work (and these super SEALs never seem to have any other communications equipment - they're constantly calling each other on their cells- crack me up). It was a great story and we can all appreciate the relationship these characters now have together.

After anticipating the conclusion to the Sam and Alyssa story for the last five Seal Team 16 books, I was sorely disappointed in this book. There were too many story lines introduced that interfered with the flow of the main story. Only about 40 percent of the book were devoted to the main characters, very little of which is spent on romance or even true character building. Ms. Brockmann seems to have been more concerned with setting up her newest story line (a civilian, covert agency) than giving her readers what they have been expecting. The ending or HEA for these two characters was very rushed and not supported by the action in this book. After her dismal efforts in Into the Night, this is a second strike for Brockmann.

I actually read this book a longggg time ago. Even before I got my kindle, and to this day I still love it. I might be a little biased considering I am in an interracial marriage, but I am big Brockmann fan so this book does not let me down. The one thing I did not like was the subplot and the backstory. It seemed a little forced and when it wasn't forced, it was just plain boring, but it's very easy to skip over those parts. I waited and waited for Sam and Alyssa to finally get their own book, and while I do miss them being a subplot, they work for me very much now that they are together.

Fast paced , great characters, suspense, humor with ongoing story lines of multiple characters both in present time and times in the past. It also , once again, brings characters from past stories back into the present story. That is like getting to say hi again to old friends. Once again Suzanne Brockmann has put out a great tale if not one of her best to date. Finally, we can all read about the story of Lt.Sam Starrett and FBI agent Alyssa Locke. It was worth the wait. This story delivers. Enjoy !!

For those who haven't read Suzanne Brockmann before, you need to know that this book is 6th in a series. It is brilliant by itself, so don't let the series thing deter you from reading it. I guarantee, however, after reading it you will want to go back and read the others in the series: (beginning with the first) The Unsung Hero, The Defiant Hero, Over the Edge, Out of Control, Into the Night and finally, Gone Too Far.
I personally have been awaiting the release of this book since I started the series. Sam and Alyssa are her most popular characters and perhaps the most complex. All of Brockmann's readers have gone through hell with these characters (the author is known for torturing her characters before they get their "Happily Ever After"), but it has made Sam & Alyssa's story worth every agonizing minute of the wait. The sub plots in this book are woven expertly and powerfully. I always think I know where Suz is going with her next book in this series, but she has shocked and surprised me every time - which is why she's the brilliant writer and I am her dedicated reader. Don't miss out on this book and don't miss out on this series!

I have read nearly all of Suzanne Brockmann, as well as other great contemporary writers (Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Kristin Hannah, Catherine Coulter). This is one of the best books of any genre I have read in a long time. I've followed Sam and Alyssa's story in other Brockmann books, and was still stunned when their story was finally told. Being African-American myself, rarely have I read a book that can take on issues of race head on without being cliche (i.e., should I our shouldn't I date out of my race). This book has depth in many ways, but the most wonderful was to see the layers that made up Sam Starett. What a great character. Totally Alpha Male with a sensitive side and goodness down to the bone. I love his humor and irreverence, and his smarts. I liked Alyssa a lot as well. She's sexy with an edge. Never have too people coming together been so totally engrossing to me. Kudos Suzanne. Another great novel, and some of the best side characters I've ever seen. My favorite of the many novels you've written.

I really love Suzanne Brockmann's Navy SEAL books. I enjoyed all of the Tall, Dark & Dangerous books and I'm happy to say that I am enjoying the stories of this new group, SEAL Team 16. This is only the second book of this installment that I've read, but I like the way that she develops the peripheral characters around the main characters. Everyone seems to have a little something going on. The way she delved more into the hero's background was very enlightening and very real. His relationship with his father (or lack of) and his relationship with his role model, Walter, who actually turned out to be his uncle by marriage. Most of all, I applaud her for the way she handled the interracial romance. That's not often seen in mainstream novels and I feel that she handled it beautifully. I read this in one day which is typical for a book that I really like. I hope Ms. Brockmann can continue to write such intriguing novels for years to come.

I have been counting the days until this book was released! After realizing that I really did not like Sam as a person in the preceeding book" Into The Night", but did feel sorry for Mary Lou and Haley because of the sad situation that they were all living throught.I was concerned about how in the world Suzanne Brockman could pull all of this together into a story that would possibly make Sam be a better person, and allow Mary Lou,Haley, and Alyssa all find some happiness and clousure considering the dreadful situation that they were in at the end of "Into The Night". Well, SHE DID IT! Sam finds himself facing not only the possible loss of his wife, but his baby girl is also missing, and he searches for them regardless of the consequences to his career, indeed, his very life. This story is rich with love, heroism, and genuine caring and comraderie found within the ranks of those who must trust their comrads for their very survival. Please read this,it's worth the cost, and we catch up on many hanging plots and relationships, such as Max and Gina's.I read this throught the night, missed church, and can not wait to see how the "new plans" for their "spec Ops" team works out! A whole new adventure and life style is possible for this great group of men,and their loved ones! (Read to see who is planning to be married, gets married,or gets back together in this story)Thank you, Suzanne, for the books that you write, the hours of pleasure that you bring to your readers, and the adventures that we all share together.

This book is the closely-tied sequel to 'Into the Night'. I felt it dragged. I skimmed large sections of it just to get through it. I'm happy that Mary Lou survived the storyline although her character development pretty much ended in 'Into the Night'.
I was surprised that Alyssa had any warm fuzzies at all for Sam - they must have happened behind the scenes or in the sections I skimmed because in the pages I did read, she was always hateful to him.
However, I was happy to get the background story on Max & Gina whose story is a well-done recent release of Ms. Brockmann's.

Ms. Brockmann's series following the SEALS is incredible. I love the mix of love stories and find her books in general to have just the right mix of soul searching and action, not too much of either. Her characters are believable and lovable and I can't wait to read more of Max's story and, of course, Alisha's partner, too. These books are definitely worth the wait and worth the price.

Action, romance, love , love terror. What more could you want? Seal team 16' s adventure go on and on, I hope they never stop. I love this series, so well written. I think the way the author weaves past and present together is inspired. I can't wait to start the next one.

Like many fans of SB, I had been anxiously awaiting Gone Too Far. As much as I loved Sam and Alyssa in previous books, I did not like either one in this one. Those of us who have read previous books, know that Sam does not have the cleaniest language. However, I was truly distracted by the number of times the F-word was used. (I lost count after 75) It was not funny. And Alyssa, when did this character become so cruel and weepy. Give me a break! The other distracting thing was the heart-to-heart conversations these two characters had during the weirdest points in the story. By the end of the book I could care less if they finally got together.
The Tom and Kelly part was like an aberration. This guy is suppose to be a pretty straight arrow. Who would believe he was a terrorist?
Max was so annoying. I don't know why Gina continues to want this guy.
I thought Out of Control was an annoying story line, but this one beat it by a long shot.
My advise to any one considering buying this book is to get from your local library. Save your money for some other book.

I'm really struggling with finishing this book. After reading the part about Alyssa's 2 sisters pregnancies, I realized this sounded familiar and checked my list of books read. I checked this one out from the library, didn't go looking for it on purpose. This story is just too much to swallow. Why does an author try to cover EVERY subject in the world with one story? Terrorist, AKA 9/11, spousal and child abuse, porn, inter-racial marriages, red neck stereo type casting, FBI paranoia, etc? Better to pick one theme and stick to it. I hope our countries security and safety is not hinged on these sex obessed people as described in this plot. Help. Did we really swallow the accident Gina had with Max just happening to be there to the rescue? And that the drivers mimiced her cousin that was her father's 4 youngest brother's 3rd youngest son. Give me a break. My last foray into the world as seen by Ms. Brockmann.

The reviewers of this book that complain about it must be nuts! Gone Too Far by Suzanne Brockmann, was an excellent story. Probably, the best in this series so far! Ignore the bad reviews and buy the book! I notice on some of the books I have been reading lately (especially, the ones who get slammed) the reviews seem personal in nature and meanspirited. I wish the store didn't allow those type of reviews to be posted. It is not a nice thing to do!

While each of her books stand independently, I strongly recommend reading the whole series; it will totally enrich your reading pleasure. I also hope that this is not her last in this series. I want Jules to have an adventure plus it is so fun to catch up on past characters. I really enjoyed Tom and Kelly finally getting married (they stared in the first book). Her characters are soooo real. I would also love to hear more from Sam and Alyssa. They would make an excellent movie. Once you start reading Suzanne Brockmann you will become a HUGE fan as her stories are intriguing and interwoven to add depth. She NEVER disappoints. Happy reading!!

Ms. Brockmann finally delivered on the Sam and Alyssa storyline. Sam finally comes across as an adult who made serious decisions that affected the lives of those around him. Alyssa finally deals with her feelings for Sam. Mary Lou finally comes across as a sympathetic character. I don't want to give away too much, but after Sam finds his "wife's" body and no sign of daughter Haley, Alyssa and he begin an uneasy alliance to try and find his daughter. The story has all the elements that make me love Brockmann's stories and a lot of angst where Gina and Max are concerned. Ofcourse now we're all going to be waiting for that story too!!

over all as always, Suzanne has kept my attention. her characters are strong alpha males with a touch of nice added to them, The one thing that bothered me was the character Tom, It was like I read this before, The first thing that popped into my mind as I was reading was that Tom had turned into Morgan Treyhern from Lindsay Mckenna's Morgan mercenaries, It's perseus revisited

I have rarely been compelled to write or comment on a book but I felt I should on this one. I try not to "over analize" characters and enjoy a story as the author presents it. The one complaint I have about "Gone Too Far" is that to truly appreciate the story you must have read the other books in the series. Now that said... I have found a compelling story that had me regretting having to put the book down. Ms. Brockmann does an excellent job of intertwining character stories -- I look forward to reading more of her books.

I'm not going to summarize or anything- just going to say: BUY IT!!! I have read the entire series and she has outdone herself with this one. I very strongly recommend this book! Read them all!! I went shopping for it the morning it was released- just couldn't wait... and I was not disappointed! I couldn't put it down!

This was the sixth book from Brockmann's Troubleshooters series and it was great! Just like the other five books this one was filled with action and romance. I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book. Also check out Brockmann's Tall Dark and Dangerous Series (i.e. Prince Joe, Forver Blue and Frisco's Kid etc). They are soooo great (and funny, too).

I am fairly certain that a 6th grade middle school student co-wrote this book with Ms. Brockmann...no, I take that back- that would be unfair to the student. I could not believe some of the dialogue in this book. It was inundated with juvenile words such as "um", "you know", "like" and "godzillionth" (i'm serious, p.523). I mean, like, really, give me a break!! I realize this isn't a book on cold fusion, but please, readers of this genre are capable of reading 3+ syllable words.
This book was terrible on so many levels that it's hard for me to summarize. I'll just say this...it's not plausible that the father of a missing child would care one whit about whether an old flame would sleep with him again (and it seems that was Sam's main focus); there was too much history about uncle Walt and Aunt Dot (who really cares about them unless it turned out they were underground terrorists that were really behind the murder/terroristic acts); the author tried too hard to make Sam into a sensitive guy. In previous novels, she hinted at his vulnerable side but in this book- let me just say, if he cried one more time(...)

I enjoy Ms. Brickmann's books. The reader can always count on a quality book with unique characters. Some of which the reader will like and some of which the reader won't. But one thing the reader can always count on is a good story line!

Finally Sam & Alyssa's story and what a story it is! It made me laugh, it made me cry! It was an emotional rollercoaster ride! I loved it - I didn't want it to end! This book leaves so many possibilities open for new story lines and characters and couples! I can't wait for the next book! She is such an awesome writer! I love those Navy SEALs too! Hoo-Ya!

Gone Too Far by Suzanne Brockmann, is a blessed addition to this series. All questions from the previous installment of this series are answered. I was very pleased with that! Love this writer and enjoyed this series.

Navy Seal series full of danger, suspence, passion, romance....
The missions and relationship issues are well developed. Makes you realize the real danger faced by our service men and women every day!

A confusingly poor novel. Although over 500 pages long, half the book is irrelevant padding. The book also has countless factual and geographical errors; i.e. a burnt out car found west of Sarasota. That would be in the Gulf of Mexico then! Too many middle aged people having torrid and graphic sex - nearly all of whom have inter-racial partners. The author cannot resist inserting her own political and ideological politically correct beliefs at every opportunity. Too many characters, not enough plot and, in the words of Elvis "a little less conversation, a little more action" might have benefited this shambles. I persevered with the story because it fell just short of being binned, but only just. Although the improbable end game was quite good, I was relieved when I had finished the book and could donate it to a thrift store. I wouldn't bore a friend by passing it to someone that I knew.

I thought the plot, storyline and the key characters were interesting. But what turned me off completely was the Jesus and God references. After what I felt was one too many, I gave up.
This is definitely my first and last Brockman novel.

I HIGHLY recommend this novel to all of Ms. Brockmann's fans - just be sure to warn your family that you'll be kinda busy for a while. To new readers of Ms. Brockmann's books, I humbly suggest that you first go back and read her other novels that lead up to this one.
