RWW has created a strong character, written that if I didn't know he wrote it I would say someone else did. I read a lot of series with Doc Ford being one of them. I felt RWW wrote this book a different way and I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of the way he started the Doc Ford series, Sanibel Flats, in a way that I've felt he's lost. I will look forward to Hannah Smiths next adventure.

As a frequent Doc Ford reader, I much enjoyed Gone. It was a real pager turner and, as a fisherman, I love the frequent fishing and boating sidelines. I guess there are those who find the Doc Ford books repetitive but, I for one, love them! Keep them coming Randy!

The lead character is struggling to define herself- in both the STORYLINE and in the AUTHOR'S DEPICTION. The characters are scattered about with less than ample development. The storyline is both hard to stay interested in and also lacking of a developing plot- all of which makes the novel NOT A PAGE TURNER. Because I've read EVERY SINGLE NOVEL WRITTEN BY RANDY WAYNE WHITE, I was very dissappointed with his newest novel. I hope he'll return with his Doc Ford novels soon.

Have read all his Doc Ford efforts in succession. This is the first Randy White book I've been unable to finish. 140 pages and gave up on Hannah's insecurities, weak characters, weaker plot (female fishing guide morphs into private detective...huh?), and general scenario. Author can do much better. Stick with Doc Ford and let him age as did Stephen Hunter and Bob Lee Swagger.

Randy Wayne White writes a great story. Totally enjoyed all his "Doc Ford" books and the way he puts you right in the scene with his beautiful descriptions of Florida. This is his first novel with Hannah Smith, and she is my heroine. Looking forward to his second book with Hannah. Book came quickly and as described by seller.

This story took too long to develop. The action didn't start till past the half way point and it almost seemed like 2 different people wrote this (it was like Randy finished what someone else had started) because the writing style seemed to change. I have enjoyed most of his prior books so much that was a surprise.

This book revolves around a new character--Hannah Smith--although Doc Ford makes several cameo appearances. Hannah will probably be developed as a love interest for Doc in future books. I spend a lot of time in the part of Florida that these books are staged in. I always watch for the next book.

Gone is certainly not a Doc Ford mystery that Rany Wayne White became famous for. Randy's frequent violation of the 2nd commandment demoralises an otherwise good story. He is better than this and it would return him to the levels of his infancy in writing novels if he would not use God's name in vain.

This book follows the same pattern as the Doc Ford books by Randy Wayne White and I really enjoyed it. Hannah Smith's relatives were written in previous RWW books (quite interesting characters.) This was not quite as graphic in it's content but the story line held my attention. I liked the fact that some of the characters were so familiar to me.

Again, gained some interesting local knowledge, some ideas about places we would like to go to explore, and a lot about the character of some of the people. That plus intrigue and entertainment, what more can you ask?

Randy Wayne may have just gotten tired of writing about his biologist hero Doc Ford, but we readers have not grown tired of Ford's adventures around southwest Florida.
The new heroine is a fishing guide whose klutzy ways supposedly add to the deadly tension in the denouement; who can belive she dropped her handgun when it's needed the most? The first chapter was fine, but then a terrible dullness ensued.

I have read everything Randy Wayne Wright has written, and his Doc Ford series was my favorite. Hannah Smith is a new slant, and I hope there will be more in this series! Women will enjoy this more than men.

Wow! There are now 117 (counting mine) customer reviews. RWW does get a lot of attention. The Hannah Smith in Gone is the original Hannah Smith's niece, but I knew that before reading Gone. I just finished Gone, and I think it is possibly RWW's best book. Captiva is my favorite Doc Ford book, and I would rate Gone right up there with Captiva. The last fifty pages of Gone are as suspenseful as anything I have ever read.
Tomlinson and Doc Ford (kind of) make an appearance in Gone. The Tomlinson part is fun to read, as always. He is definitely unique.
For me, the best part of the book is the last paragraph, but I am a liveaboard. I am very much looking forward to the next Hannah Smith novel.

Did Randy White write this? Or did the barmaid at the Rum Bar? My God, Randy Stryker
was better, back in the pulp days. White has gotten progressively worse in the last 3 books. It took 20 minutes to skip through this mess. Did he really get paid for this?
No plotting, shallow characters, I couldn't have gotten away with this in Creative Writing 101.

I was disappointed that Doc Ford had been sidelined and dithered long about whether to invest the time and money in a new character. Hannah Smith is a worthy replacement. She's engaging and has enough "swagger" to pull off the role.

Randy Wayne White has been thrilling and consequentially engaging us for years with his Doc Ford books. We await eagerly each March for the next one.
Now, he starts a new series with a completely new character, Hannah Smith. She is a wonderfully winning new friend to meet and her adventures every bit as compelling as those of her friend, Doc Ford. We owe RWW a great Huzzah! for this new series.
Now, can he keep all these going? I won't bet against him.
