For this reviewer words usually come easy for me but this time I’m having a really hard time trying to find the perfect words for this book! I absolutely loved this book so much! I truly identified with Annette. I knew I would love her from the moment she said that she sometimes feels forgotten. The connection to her character was instant. I have felt that way in certain situations my entire life and I truly felt that Annette could have been me or any other women reading this book. Annette is going through unrequited love and feels she is at a crossroads in her life. She truly doesn’t know what to do with herself now that The man she thought she would have a future with, Owen, is now in love with someone else. Enter the Sheriff.. he has kept his eye on the book lady for a long time especially from his office window and knows what he wants. He decided that now is the time and he is in hot pursuit. Jackson is so perfect for Annette! He hotter than hotness and he has Annette in his sights. Kate Canterbary does a stellar job with these two people who we got a snippet of from Fresh Catch. Of course we must know more about these two and Kate delivers with an amazing story. I could go on but I don’t want to spoil anything for other readers. Just trust me when I say this book is unputdownable... by the way Brooke is totally screaming that she wants her story told too!!! She is the absolute best friend to Annette and I know readers will love her just as much as I do. The sister wife thing... omg.. just freaking hilarious! Another winner by Kate!! I’ll give it ten gold stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hard Pressed by Kate Canterbary is the second book in the Talbots Cove series and it can be read as a stand-alone. I literally just finished reading and I seriously have the biggest smile on my face. Ms. Canterbary never fails to not only entertain me for a few hours but to give me all the feels while reading her stories. Hard Pressed was a romantic story full of hope and love that had my emotions all over the place.
Annette is Talbot’s Cove’s sweetheart. She is the owner of a local bookstore and just had her heartbroken. Not trusting her feelings anymore, she wants to steer clear of relationships. But when the town's sheriff starts to make his moves she’s unsure of what to do. She can’t deny their attraction but she tries to keep him at arm's length. Jackson though refuses to give up and will do anything to prove to her that he’s worth the risk. Will he be patient enough to earn not only her love but her trust?
I loved this story so much! These two characters embedded themselves into my heart. With Jackson and his tenacity and his alpha ways and Annette with her pure heart, it was impossible to not fall in love with them. The banter and the chemistry between the two was electrifying. Ms. Canterbary wrote a fabulous story that will stay with me for a long time to come!

After seeing so many people mentioning this book in the Facebook book groups I've joined, I knew I had to check it out. It had everything I like to read in a book, a small town, hot alpha, especially a sheriff and a quirky heroine. Its funny I feel like my reviews are getting so repetitive because I really love these types of books!
Now what was surprising about this one was how the characters really surprised me. Going in I was expecting the hot sheriff, but I was not expecting the hot dirty talking sheriff! I likey those! Also the heroine, I was expecting this sweet almost virginal book shop owner but that was not what we get with Annette. It was a bit irksome on how she reacted regarding Owen and Cole, almost sad, but this is where Jackson's character made the book for me. He was sweet, but hot and he didn't pressure Annette but he also didn't give up on her. At one point I was getting a bit nervous, the part with the mother and sisters, I had assumed he overheard the whole conversation so thought it was going to be okay, I didn't like that part so much. I'm glad it got resolved quickly with the help of the best best friend ever!!! Looooved Brooke, their text messages are hilarious!
All in all this was an enjoyable read, I should really branch out of the small town with hot sheriff and quirky heroine type of books, but those are the ones I enjoy so much!

I loved this book! Sheriff Jackson Lau! That is some kind of male specimen right there--sexy, swoon worthy, and a dirty talking alpha! I love the way he calls Annette on her BS, but is still caring, kind, and considerate. Every woman should definitely have her very own Jackson! Annette the "book mistress"--how adorable is she with her quaint little bookstore and fresh baked goods?! She unknowingly walks around torturing our poor sheriff with her sexy ankles (LOL!) and gorgeous sundresses!
The best friend Brooke...are you kidding me?! If every woman should have a "Jackson", they should also have a best friend like Brooke! She's witty, loyal, and a bit scary if you should ever find yourself on her bad side! LOL! But she's the kind of friend you can call your "sister from another mister." Like our sexy sheriff, I love the way she calls Annette on her BS too. Their conversations never failed to elicit a roar of laughter from my gut!
Annette is such a sweet girl with a family that definitely rivals the snottiest of families. I hated the way they made her feel! One would think she was really adopted! But I loved how the sheriff so wittingly puts Annette's mother and each of her sisters in their place. This was just the cutest story ever, and now I also have a hankering for some fresh baked pastries!

I loved this book! After reading Fresh Catch, I thought I’d found my favorite couple from Talbott’s Cove-now I’m not so sure.
I loved everything about Jackson right from the beginning-his humor, his strength, his seemingly easy going way that he moves through his life, and his steadfast way that he loved Annette.
My very favorite line was Jackson’s-
“She tasted like all the things I loved about her. It wasn't a flavor, it was a feeling.”
Annette was a harder character for me to get to know-and honestly, I liked that. I liked that I needed explanations as to why she was afraid, and why she seemed hesitant to love anyone.
And I loved that she baked-it’s what made me start to see that she was hiding so much inside. She showed bits and pieces of her through her baking. I loved that.
And the witty banter that this author excels at...you will NOT be disappointed. I’m still giggling....
I read this book in one sitting ( a 3 hour sitting but still) and was sad when it was over.
I want to know more about some of the townspeople, and some of the stories that were briefly mentioned throughout the book. I hope to be able to read more about Jackson and Annette, Cole and Owen, and Brooke....
This is a great summer love story and I can’t wait to read more!

What an incredible book!! Flowing with clever dialogue, off the chart sexual chemistry & wonderful characters, this is a must read!
After Annette is introduced to the boyfriend of the man she hoped to share a future with, she takes to the local bar to drown her sorrows & Sheriff Jackson Lau is called in to escort her home. This is no hardship for Jackson who’s totally smitten with the pretty bookstore owner & it’s all he can do to resist her charms, especially when she strips naked in his living room. Steamy almost refrigerator sex, drunken regrets and many baked goods follow, resulting in Jackson wanting to build a relationship and Annette retreating, afraid of getting too involved.
This story made me want to visit Maine, to walk the streets of Talbott Cove and interact with these characters. Jackson is one sexy, dirty talking sweetheart of a man and Annette is just the right combination of quirky & adorable- I can relate to her love of The Great British Bake Off. And crazy bff Brook, with her hilarious texts & fierce devotion, so deserves her own book. Hard Pressed is part of a loosely connected series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone.

Oh, Jackson Lau! You swoony little devil, you.
Hard Pressed is another smart, sexy read with loads of swoon and enough romance to make me wonder if there really are any Jackson Lau's out there. I laughed, fell in love, and completely ignored the outside world. I got lost in the emotion of the story and found myself drowning in the desire for more, more, more.
This is my xxth (how many has she written) book by this author and she did not disappoint. Kate Canterbary never fails to deliver characters that make you think and laugh. She writes characters that are smart and witty. Characters that are authentic, with dialogue that feels so personal you begin to believe that you know them. Characters that you desperately want to sit down and have a drink with. Her books feel personal in a way that keeps you completely captivated. They're sexy, quirky, and entertaining as hell.
With each book in this series I fall deeper in love with Talbot's Cove. I hope that we get to know more about this picturesque place and the residents that make it one of my favorite fictional towns.

You MUST meet Jackson Lau. He’s simply next-level swoony. He’s all man, all alpha and hot AF, but has this incredible sense of kindness and gentleness about him. I can’t quite find the words to describe him—he’s a special one for sure.
And if there were ever a woman that could balance the beauty of Jackson, it is Annette. They both posses this inner quality that grounds them and makes them unique, and when these two come together, it’s pure fire. I just finished it and I already want to go back and experience these two again.
One big surprise to me was Annette’s best friend Brooke and I can’t wait to hear more from this brazenly beautiful woman!
I love Talbott’s Cove and their residents and yet again, Kate has me wanting to move to the Northeast and live amongst the characters she’s created.
If you’ve read Kate before, I’m sure you’ve already downloaded this beauty. If you haven’t read her before, this is THE perfect book to have as your first experience. You’ll see the subtle touches and all of the heat and heart that make Kate one of my absolute favorite authors.

Another great story by Kate Canterbary!
Hard Pressed is Jackson and Annette's love story. Jackson had recently left his job and sold his house and moved to Talbott's Cove to hopefully make a difference as the town's Sheriff, but while he should be settling in and doing his job he has found that he most definitely is interested in the local good girl and bookstore owner, Annette Cortassi.
Annette loved living in a small town all except the fact that everyone new your business, probably even before you did. When she gets her heartbroken by a crush that she harbored for years, the only thing she can think to do about it, is drink her pain away at the local bar. The end result isn't pretty and the only one willing to take on the job of getting her home is Jackson. Knowing that she wasn't at her best that night Annette decides that she will thank Jackson by bringing him baked goods and this soon opens the door for many more visits and a wide array of delicacies.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

What I love about Hard Pressed:
1. The cover. ‘nuff said.
2. Annette. Her reaction to the forced acknowledgement of the fact the guy she had thought would be ‘The One” was gay was so true to life. Who hasn’t lusted after the unobtainable guy, job, or (fill in the blank), only to be brought to reality with a hard bump. I know I have and facing your friends and the ones that seem to be your friends but aren’t really is hard. Plus, she owns a bookstore in a small town which is my fantasy vocation.
3. Jackson’s steadfastness. He may have been in avoidance mode before but once he acknowledges that Annette is the one he exhibits a determination, confidence and patience that is endearing not cocky.
4. The host of side characters in the story that Kate has given just enough depth and information about that you are left thinking “I wonder what their story is. I bet it’s interesting.”.
This is a great book and I hope we get more stories from Talbott’s Cove at some point in the future.

This book exemplifies the rocky path to finding yourself AND finding that person who loves you.
Annette, bookstore owner and baker - is a refreshing, flawed soul who loved a man that would never hers. She had a great personality filled with laughter, a little self-doubt, and love to give. She was a woman who I want to be friends with. Her BFF Brooke reminds her of how kick ass she is! She and Annette have a no hold bared relationship and I love that they build each other up! Sheriff Jackson Lau is SWOONIEST Kate guy (Don't worry Nick, you'll always be number one!) He's just good. Can we talk about food, too?
What I love about this book Annette and Jackson are flawed. They aren't perfect nor do we want them to be. They have this buzz around them that explodes, it gets messy. But they fight, they laugh, they cry yet though don't let go. They hold on. That's what a relationship is. It just solidifies Kate's words.
Another book means more characters to fall in love with, thanks Writer Lady!

Having red Fresh Catch, and this blurb, this book developed far differently than I had expected. Not bad. Just way different.
Hard Pressed features Jackson Lau, pretty much the best hero ever. And I don't say that lightly. But boy, is he amazing. Steadfast, forthcoming, unwavering, attentive, never pushing, but slightly coaxing, letting her develop on her own.. gah! I'm just dead. Scrape me off the floor.
Anette. Dear, darling Annette.. too naive for her own good, holding onto some hope despite knowing better, because in truth she is shy and not wanting to allow herself a lot. But man, how she grew. I loved how natural her road seemed, not instantly letting go, having to overcome post hangups.. and getting there a little more every day.
Kate Canterbary writes stories brilliantly. The main characters are complex and go on a journey, and the side characters fill in the blanks perfectly. What a lovely novel, that I'll be rereading soon.

Small town girl: Sweetheart of her town, dealing with heartbreak, longing, feeling like a misfit, not worthy of love.
New guy in small town: Officer and a gentleman, protector, Main man in town, longing for that girl from afar.
Can this love be? can Jackson show Annette how to trust the joy love can bring?
How many blueberry muffins and peach cobbler, and lemon bars will it take... For the sweetness of love to drop anchor there in Talbot's Cove
Ohhh be still my heart.... Kate you posses a gift !!
Every story you create, it feeds my soul, my heart, my imagination and ....I always learn something new.
Sugar & Spice That was definitely what Annette and Jackson were. Brooke was that sweet and sour mix that we all need in our lives. I love the way you Incorporated all those innuendos so often used in baking. I love the way you Empower your characters, which at the same time, empowers us the readers. So many of us can relate, and therefore our hearts are filled with your stories. Your books are the icing of the cake, the very best cake. One cannot always depend on things going right in life, but one can always depend on loving your stories and being filled with awesome emotions throughout the journey. Your books have become my happy place. And now I also want to watch stat British Bake Off show once again, even though I cannot possibly make any of that, or eat it.

Kate Canterbury is a master at her craft! There's no other way to describe her exquisite talent for weaving words together that make you feel so hard, fall so fast, and love so much. She makes her characters relatable, the storylines are engaging and her pace and prose are perfectly timed. Once you dive in, you won't want to stop until the last page is read. And believe me, you're going to want to devour Hard Pressed.
Jackson Lau is one of the dreamiest heroes to date! His confidence and conviction were enough to make any girl weak in the knees; how Annette was able to stay upright when around him is beyond me. It's doesn't matter though, if she had fallen, Jackson would've been there to catch her. I loved his patience and understanding; it was exactly what Annette needed. Her growth & resiliency were beautiful to behold and I was beyond thrilled when she finally accepted the happily ever after that she truly deserved. ❤

This is a great summer love story and I can’t wait to read more!

ackson and Annette are wonderful!
Jackson has admired and had a few shall we say naughty thoughts including the local bookstore owner over the past few months. When he is near her the need to touch is overwhelming so that is why he does his best to avoid the oh so lovely temptress . Annette is sweet, quirky, sexy and does not realize it and always taking care of others . She has pined after local fisherman Owen for years and now to find out she was so not his type ….he prefers the male gender...she is devastated . Jackson has never caught her eye he wasn't even on her radar , that was filled with only Owen. One night filled with way tooo much adult refreshment and a inn keeper that feels the need to call the lady an escort home Sheriff Jackson has no choice but come to Annette's rescue and she sleeps it off at his house . She is drunk so funny , so cute and he wants ...wants her way too much. This is now the beginning of the awkward sweet funny banter to begin! Jackson is such a fabulous alpha male, sheriff , subtle but so sexy, and caring he wants to care for Annie . I loved their journey!!!!

Sheriff Jackson Lau finds himself in a coastal town in Maine being driven crazy by the sexy book mistress (love that title) Annette. He's watched over her from afar but made no move. New sheriff, rules, ethics, morals, get my drift. But a night of revelations, broken dreams and liquor bring the couple together and does Annette let loose...whoa!
He wants it all, she's afraid and doubting everything. Can they move past her insecurities? She's kept herself to a man out of her reach and now she's faced that reality. But the new Sheriff has her taking notice.
Loved this couple. Jackson as the town and lady's protector, the quirky book lady that's as sweet as her pastries and mercy sakes the bff Brooke. I want a bff like that. She's fierce and funny. I adored their banter.
Great characters, heartwarming storyline, humor and heat ?! Highly recommend this book!

I spent over 80% of the book screaming and shaking my head at Annette. I get being insecure about yourself and your decisions but too many back and forth moments. Jackson took most of it in stride. Her family was horrible to her and that contributed to her head games. But damn you have a hot guy in a uniform telling you he wants you... and you back away?? What?? Smh... At least we get the hea in the end.
