As the Expanse book series has continued--at least for me--they have been come increasingly confusing. The characters in the book are so wonderful I would hate to see the end of the Expanse series, but honestly, when you have to keep a spreadsheet its getting kind of gamesofthroneish.

I find this book not as enjoyable as the preceding novels in the series. I liked the backstories presented for the crew of the Rocinante but found the pacing to be rather plodding. On the other hand, a number of elements and plotlines are introduced for the next installment in the series that promise to be entertaining. Let's see if a hidden power manipulating events in this book are revealed fully in the next one.

This is the fifth novel in the Expanse series revolving around the same characters. For a change the author splits the characters up and gives each his or her own story for the bulk of the novel. It was another in a line of interesting story lines with well developed characters that you actually care about. I enjoyed it as I have his first four in this series.

This is good science fiction with a host of characters. However, Jim Holden and his small crew are the maim attraction and are the most interesting. All take their separate journeys in this sequel illuminating their pasts and the experiences that brought 5hem this far. But each has their own adventure and trials to get back to a united crew again. Well written

The story continues, and as in each previous volume, surprises abound. The interweaving of characters and their histories into the plot just enhances the story. I think the crew of the Roci is about to get bigger.

I mostly enjoyed the other books in the series but this particular one was very hard to finish. The book before this had established the creation of wormhole to other systems and a mystery as to who killed the race of aliens that built it. This book, just seemed to be filled with psychos hellbent on laying waste to Earth. It's as if the authors decided to just go off on a tangent from the previous books.

I just read straight through the first 5 books in The Expanse and am distressed that the 6th will not be released until Nov. 1st. Sympathetic and complex characters, excellent science, clever plotting, and talented writing by the 2 collaborating authors make this series transcend the "space opera" genre. Don't miss it!

the twists & turns continue. the back story on the crew of <i>Rocinante<\i> & their respective impacts on the present are fascinating. never a dull moment. just wish they'd stop demoting Bobbie. a Gunnery Sergeant is 'Gunny' casually, never 'Sergeant'.

Nemesis GA is a wonderful fifth book in the Expanse series, especially after the rocky ground the fourth was on. Splitting the party is never a good idea, but it works to show the strengths and develop the character of the three members that aren't Holden. Unfortunately, it leaves this book feeling like a series of side quests that the authors needed to tidy up before getting back to the meat. Hence only four stars.

Tempted to give it five stars. Really top-notch Corey. The Expanse continues to deliver, this time with the Rocinante's crew scattered all over the place, doing their own things. Will pause only long enough to purchase the next book

This series is kind of like the Pendergast books by Preston and Child in that it's reliably entertaining and starting to strain the plot. But at a time when fantasy seems to be the popular genre, just finding old fashioned space opera or hard sci fi is worthwhile.

Great series for fans of Battlestar Galactica (the TV series). Each book starts a little slowly, but pay attention! Each character/setting/experience is important and may come back later as a 'carrot' for those who were paying attention. Much better than the TV show, but the show is pretty good.

This addition to the series is one of my favourites. So much thought into the amazing characters that surround Holden. I thought that earlier on some of these would be hard to present in just one book but it is certainly delivered. Amos' true nature awes me as both simplistic and complex at the same time. Worth reading again.

I started reading expecting a closure to the whole serie, what with the opening of the gates and the first colonies forming.
I was blown away by a sudden twist in the story, fairly unexpected.
The plot is not comparable to that of the first three books, but I did not regret for a second the choice of the writer.
And now I just hope to hear news about a further book...

Bravo. Much, much, much better than Cibola Burn which in my honest opinion was an abortion. The proto molecule is the bread and butter story, milking the cow too much with pointless side actions threatens the series.

another excellent outing for the team. I felt the end was a little rushed and unresolved. I'm hoping that was due to a continuing story. The earlier stories in the series all had complete closure as a story. this one left enough in the air that I felt like the readers are being given a set up for the next book. Which I will enjoy as much as I have enjoyed all the stories so far.

Probably my second favorite of the series after Leviathan Wakes. Following the main characters to teach us more about their back stories makes it much more satisfying/compelling than the previous books.

Seems like the authors are getting their writing skills in high rev. character development is right there. Storyline compelling. Existential pondering? There. They have managed to build a world that the reader at once understands and doesn't... Great reading... Page turner. Can't put it down kind of novel...

Best book since the first, probably because the POVs have kind of sucked between the first book and this one, but also the story is pretty solid and entertaining. Really hope they don't go back to following more lame POVs rather than just sticking with the main characters.

I love this series, but this book was simply outstanding. The plot twists, the very real character portrayals, all of it under tight control by a masterful writer hitting his stride. This is an amazingly well written book.

Okay, you guys, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, are amazing! This book pushes all the right buttons. Love, lost children, old alliances, treason, politics, genocide! It all works! I could not stop reading this book. Please SyFy Channel do the entire series ala Game of Thrones! This series is on the same scale..

The Expanse series is personable, intimately human, rich and more probable than fictive. Future Probability is more accurate terminology than Science Fiction. And The Expanse world is somehow very satisfying.

Starting at the beginning of these books, I'm sad to be done. This is another good story. It's been odd, though, as I have been reviewing old episodes of Babylon 5. There are so many plot similarities other than aliens, that I am stunned.

This book contained interesting information about the main characters, but did not have nearly the action and imagination displayed in previous books. Hopefully successive books will return to the more conventional style.

Decent read. The author is obviously planning on extending the series , so no clean endings or closures.
Favorite science fiction read of the past 20 years, however, is by a landslide the Altered Carbon 3 book series by Richard K Morgan.
REad it, it is as good as it gets in the genre.

Once you get pulled into the world of these books, it's hard to look at science fiction the same way. The characters are complex, yet relatable, while their stories keep me captivated. The portrayal of hard life in space and the physics involved help articulate a world where these stories feel a bit closer to reality.

Very good progression of new ideas and characters. Really fleshing our the main characters . I would have liked Arvasalas back story as well unfortunately not much was added to her back story. Some new interesting characters added and the expected return of another . Very good read. I am off to buy the next instalment now.

Read in conjunction with the short stories, Nemesis Games provides the most character development to the non-Holden cast, something that was previously missing. In particular the reader is afforded a major glimpse into Naomi's neglected background and it's bearing on the overall plot. It's hard to pick a favorite out of this series (they're all excellent) but this installation does not disappoint. We now have thorough character development to go along with the intrigue, action and always top-notch dialogue.

This book provides very interesting, and much needed, character development of the four primary characters. Each of their backstories are engaged in the novel and explained to the reader, providing insight into the crew that was somewhat lacking before. The plot of this book also took a somewhat unexpected direction, which made it an interesting read as well. Corey has a knack for really tending to his world- he doesn't forget about any of it, and makes sure each part is caught up to the others. As a fan of the series, I highly recommend picking up the book. I would say the book improves on the overally direction and flow from book 4, but focuses more on character development than the last books.

I started reading this series a few months ago, and I have enjoyed all the books so far. I really like the writing style, as it is very detailed in each of the story arcs. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out.

I started off loving the Expanse series and I still find the writing and many of the characters very enjoyable. That is the only reason this book didn't get a one star rating.
In the last book I had my first reason to worry... one of the key plot elements violated human and social dynamics in ways that were painful to read...sure, they advanced the plot, but it required good (and bad!) people...many of whom had no difficulty killing somebody if it was 'important' to stand by and keep on handing all the power somebody who was painfully untrustworthy.
I figured it was an aberration, not a trend.
Instead, they doubled down.
'My people might be slightly less useful in the distant future because we found a bunch of other planets' is not merely a silly reason to commit genocide, it is the sort of thing only somebody completely crazy thinks. And while we DO have crazy people, the number of people who went along with it without saying 'ummmm...guys?' was so far off the deep end it literally hurt my brain.
Okay, internet literally, not real literally, the brain is fine...but the book is not. The collective amount of incompetence and insanity required to make this work is kind of embarrassing and completely unnecessary. If your plot doesn't make sense, figure something better out instead of hoping nobody notices.

Another entry in the Expanse saga that treats aliens as backdrop to typical human concerns - ensuring a better life for our children, fighting against (perceived) injustice, paying for sins of the past etc. A bit more backstory development on Naomi, Amos and Alex, but Holden remains a bit of a two-dimensional character, even though he's also starting to recognize that there are always shades of grey in decision-making.
