I was very pleasantly surprised with this book! It was a quick and easy read and it gave me lots of tips on how to make my business facebook posts even better and how to use instagram- a platform I was struggling with. I am recommending this to all my clients who want to manage social media themselves in the entertainment industry. I see twitter faux pas every day now that I have read this book;0

What an attractive book. What glorious full-color examples of social media posts. And...
The author makes an important point that telling people to "buy my stuff" (a right hook) again and again is fruitless. He encourages building a relationship with clients by being interesting, informative, entertaining, intimate, etc. (jab, jab, jab). But...
There is not much meat here... not much more to learn. The biggest disappointment is giving LInkedIn short shrift. I urge the writer to write a sequel for businesses that want to use social media for business-to-business social interaction.

Saw him speak at the Digital Summit in Atlanta last month, he is great. Man what a down to earth guy! He's a straight up NY talker that tells it like it is, his book is exactly that as well. No BS no nonsense, exactly what we need to hear.

Hands down best social media content I've ever seen. Gary is amazing and I will argue to the death with anyone who disagrees. Stop reading reviews on this book and start reading the book itself. Enjoy!

Enjoyed to-the-point descriptions of major platforms and Vaynerchuk's added clarification by including samples of specific posts. Good reading for beginner+ to intermediate marketer. The book saved me multiple hours. Already referred it to my American Association of University Women (AAUW) co-volunteer leaders in San Diego County.

In a clear and straightforward manner, Gary Vaynerchuk shows why and how business owners and entrepreneurs should use social media to attract potential customers. He describes the most popular media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), then analyzes real-life examples for their good or bad features.
The book is worth the money for any business owner, but my one objection is its length. Gary somewhat overwhelms the reader with the number of examples.

Great overview of the 7 current social media juggernauts.
-how to take advantage of each platform
-what to post
-what NOT to post
-real case studies of existing posts on each platform by recognizable brands (he doesnt hold back telling huge companies they suck at SM)
Looking forward to the next book.

Vaynerchuk looks at real world marketing campaigns, from an array of companies on social media platforms. He discusses how some companies got it right while others got it wrong. A non nonsense book that is educational and entertaining.

A book with eclectic value! Great for those: wanting to learn social media platforms, learning how to best utilize them... using them, wanting to shift their use... And the endless value for every entrepreneur needing to step up their presence. Digital attention isn't a hype in our era! Worth the time to read.

I wish more people would read this book, the constant right hook interaction that is becoming social media is just getting tiresome. If you are involved in social media marketing in any form YOU MUST READ this book. Gary Vee simplifies how to behave in social media and provides wonderful clear examples from people doing it right.

Everyone has been asking Gary for the meat and potatoes, finally they have been served.
If you want a book that says do exactly this and never do that, then JJJRH is for you. There is no other social media marketing book like it. Everyone else is just talking theory and Gary is giving you step by step instructions with pictures to boot.
What I love about the book is that you do not have to read it cover to cover. You can pick it up, go to the chapter most relevant to you that week, and get exactly what you need. It's a desk reference and employee training manual all in one.
If you're doing any social media marketing at all, and you're at all serious about getting results from it, you must get this book.

I wish that Gary would either update this book, or reduce the kindle price. It's pretty outdated. The overall theme is interesting, but social moves fast, and this just reads as being outdated, and should therefore be a little cheaper.

Great book on social media. Gary V breaks down the social media scene in an easy to implement way. If you are an entrepreneur you need this book. Don't just put it on your shelf, read it and implement the lessons into your daily social media set.

So, I was skeptical when I purchased this. I thought, hey, if I don't like it, I'll just return it and that'll be that. The day I got it, I picked it up, flipped to the first page, and being an aspiring attorney/entrepreneur, the first page was enough for me to keep reading. So, I put it down, got through finals, and devoured this baby in the week immediately after. Do yourself a favor and pick this bad boy up to increase your marketing potential - a few days out, and I'm already seeing results.

I found about Gary from a photography blog (froknowsphoto) and since then I've really enjoyed reading his books. With all the free content Gary gives out online, I feel, oddly enough, that I owe it to him to purchase every book he releases.
His books are an investment, in myself and my business. Love 'em!

The book inspired me to sign up for Instagram and Snap Chat a accounts and to use more video marketing. I love to see Gary V speak so I could visualize him talking as I read the book.
Any serious marketer should read this book.

Not impressed with this book. It's not entertaining. It doesn't teach much.
Overall, it's shallow. Like written in a rush - I didn't felt the hard work, the care, the deep thought required to develop new theories, new insights.
The author Gary Vaynerchuk, excels in video. Video is a medium that complements pure content (what's being said) with auxiliary information from the energy, drive and body language of the speaker (GaryVee on Youtube). Video works well with simple, practical and direct messages.
When you remove image and sound - in a book - the quality of the text and the depth of the ideas being delivered becomes not only critical but the only source of value. In written text, Gary Vaynerchuk doesn't impress.
As the author says, content is king, context is god. Well, this content would be excellent in the context of a YouTube video, but it's not enough in the context of a book.

Highly recommended reading for anyone looking to improve their chances of surviving and thriving in all online social spaces. Social media is hard as Gary says because "It's human". Most companies and people are trying to "game" the network but what I know is that you can't automate the heart. Gary helps to explain concepts and gives you simple duplicatable action steps that are literally timeless strategies regardless if the platform changes (and it will). If you intend on succeeding then you will buy the book and execute, ship and take action on what's inside.

This book is a very practical and useful guide for marketing techniques and how they interact with social media. It covers the whole span of social media: Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Linkedin, and many others. For anyone looking for a good book on this topic, this is it.

This is a very helpful and informative book. It is chock full of information. It's not a one time read. After you read it, when it's time for you to implement the principles, you'll need to revisit that portion of the book to make sure that you're on point.

Undoubtedly the best book we've studied as a startup company. Gary dives directly into the 'HOW' and literally tells you exactly what to do and what not to do (the what not to dos are of course very entertaining).
We learned a tremendous amount and view this as a marketing blueprint. We believe in this stuff so much that we bought a copy for everyone on our team so they can highlight and keep their own blueprint with them at all times.
This is the BEST INVESTMENT YOU CAN MAKE under $30.

Why you're thinking about reading this book:
I have read both of Gary's previous titles and they helped the reader understand that giving (jabbing) is the way to develop brand advocates and that social media (or, "the current state of the Internet," as Gary calls it) is the best way to give to the masses and expose your brand to as many people as possible. The next logical step in your mind after reading the first two books is, "Okay, I'm a believer! Now... how the hell do I go about this?" This is what you hope (or at least I did) JJJRH is going to answer for you, but it won't do exactly that.
What this book really has to offer:
This book basically gives you a history of each valid (at the time) social media platform, how native users use the platform, and then gives you examples (too many in my opinion) of other brands' posts and what Gary feels this did right or wrong. If you know Gary, he's a passionate guy and his emotion bleeds into these critiques. He's more forgiving to some than others and generally you start to skip the examples after you've read a few and think, "Okay, there's no pattern here and these are too industry specific to glean a strategy from... Next chapter."
Is it worth your time?
If you haven't read his previous books I'd honestly recommend that you start there - they give you "the WHY." I don't necessarily recommend you come back to this book after you have though. If you don't know anything about social media platforms and really need a crash course in each this is quick and dirty and is probably right for you. HOWEVER, if you've decided content marketing is something your business needs to employ, have a basic understanding of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and are hoping this book is actually the guide on "How to tell your story in a noisy social world," then I'd steer clear of this title. Plus, the lack of an audio option means this will require 100% of your attention as you read. "Ain't nobody got time for that" if it isn't going to deliver...
But you LOVE Gary:
Me too. But as he often says, "he's a counterpuncher" and if you are looking for a blueprint he's not going to provide one. He's about reacting and this book spends most of its time critiquing other brands' posts. It's not a "How you can" it's a "How they did or didn't tell their story well." That's helpful to some, but not to the social media savvy in my opinion.
Thanks for checking out this review. ;)

This is a well-written book for social media managers whether you are a beginner or have been doing it for a while. There are lots of visual components that make the information clear to the reader. The boxing puns do get a little tiresome after a while, but I do enjoy a good pun.

I really don't want other marketers reading this, they'll just get in my way ;)... But small business owners/entrepreneurs, have at it! It's really given a perspective on how to use each platforms MOST effectively (from vision standpoint), and has shifted my mindset back into storytelling mode (my favorite place to be). It's easy to see how you could garner a cult following with some if these insights... I know my clients appreciate the changes that are about to come!

This was a great read, completely consumed me and kept me turning the pages until I realized it was over. Anyone with any business interest NEEDS to read this and digest it fully so they don't get left out in the dark! Not only does Gary give you tons of information that can be executed right away, he gives you so many real life examples that it'd be impossible not to improve your social media game! I just wish he had the chance to add in some more thoughts on snapchat with the recent attempt made by Facebook to acquire it, but I guess that's the nature of this world. Great job Gary!
