As usual, the books of Dr. Seuss are entertaining to children but always contain a lesson that adults would do well to heed if they would live right. He addresses an issue that plagues human relationships and portrays an interesting response to being taken advantage of.

FROM THE BOOKPLATES PASTED IN 100 COPIES I GIFTED TO GUESTS AT A DINNER LAST FEBRUARY:
“Horton Hatches the Egg” is Theodor Seuss Geisel’s great paean to Menschlichkeit: doing the right thing and persisting faithfully through obstacles to a conclusion. Study and learn the great lessons of Horton as you aspire to Menschlichkeit!
1. Word Choices.
__a. Why is the Egg central to this story instead of some other object?
__b. Why does the title say “the Egg,” not “an Egg?”
2. Egg
__a. How do you choose eggs to hatch?
__b. Who determines those choices?
__c. Who decides how you do the task?
__d. How long should it take?
__e. Who decides if you are succeeding?
__f. What reward should you expect?
3. Is success a reward?
4. What were Horton’s expected and unexpected rewards?
P and R K have been married for 53 years, because on November 8, 1964, they meant what they said and they said what they meant, and they have been faithful 100 percent.
May you make great progress this year in hatching your eggs!

This little tale is pertainent at levels from "silly" age 2+ to high school. Interpreting a kid's story to adult lesson learned is quite entertaining for students. I reference people being "a Horton" or "a Masie bird." Good psychology lesson!

I enjoyed reading this book to my kids and grandkids. Now I'm sharing it with great-nieces and great-nephews.
This story shows that life is NOT always easy, BUT if you are patient and persistent, you WILL be rewarded for your efforts.

It teaches a good message to kids about patience and perseverance. It is also very cute, silly, and fun. I bought this book as well as Dr. Suess's other Horton book, Horton Hears a Who. I definitely recommend both books,
