I generally don't write reviews for many things, even if I loved it. I just don't feel like my review will matter one way or the other. I was so impressed with the first three books in this series that I HAD to say something though. Mr. Ford has a story from a genre that had many similar versions & manages to make it stand out. I'm a big believer in character over story, and while he nails both, the way you become invested in each character is rare. You genuinely feel for each of them & when challenged you hold your breath, hoping they survive unscathed. This isn't a review of Society as much as its a review of the first three books as a whole. Go read from the beginning. You will not regret it.

This series continues to be a story I would recommend others to read. My only issue with this particular part of the series was that it seemed to be heavy on the warring with others around them and far too light on the the portion of the book that opened the door into the scientific information acquired. That information was almost glossed over until the last chapter or two and then used primarily as a huge cliffhanger, a writing gimmick that personally I find extremely annoying. In my opinion in a truly well done series each portion, or novel, should be written in such a way as to not only continue the tale from the previous novel but should also be able to stand alone as an individual story (|Iain Rob Wright's books are a great example of this technique) unto it's own. I am optimistic though that book 4 will continue to build on the solid foundation created to date and be another exciting read.

As I was completely engrossed reading the first four books of the After It Happened series this week, I did not do individual reviews. The past four days I have done only what I HAD to do, because I didn't want to stop reading. All I can say is 'Wow', what a great ride! I thoroughly enjoyed each book, getting to know each main character better as their stories progressed, and finding out what happened next. Sadly this morning I awoke to finish Hope with my coffee and then realized I would probably have to wait patiently until December for the next installment, sigh.

Having become very fond of dystopian stories, pandemics and world's end novels the past year, I place Mr. Ford in my top 5 favorite authors in this category. I feel like I almost know each character and try to predict their reactions, I feel their emotional pain, I trust them to be good, honorable people who often have to do difficult things to survive. There are plenty of good guys and bad guys, gun fights, everyday struggles and the will to survive to keep anyone who enjoys this type of story to become thoroughly engaged. The plots are really exciting, the characters interesting, and the writing good. Not a lot of cussing and very little sex should please some readers, and not too much gore for most people. I recommend these books to anyone who enjoys reading this type of stories, very engrossing. I'm happy to have found a new author to read. You left us with two cliff hangers Mr. Ford, but I'm sure the next book will start right where the last left off as the last four have done.

I cannot say enough good things about this series. It has been a while since one has captivated me this much, enthralled me with the details others may find mundane, and excited me with scenes that are scary as well as angering in their violence. The details, the characters, the plots, the story is all that and more.

Continuing from book 2, we find our small, growing society facing more diverse, and unexpected threats, both from without, and within. Groups that were previously know come calling, and some that arise unexpectedly from the north bring danger, surprise, and sorrow. It isn't just the people who are dangerous now. The mystery of the virus is slowly revealed.

At the end, the story doesn't just pause, it takes your breath away. Book four, which totally surprised me that it existed or would exist, should be the most exciting and challenging yet if it is to surpass book three.

This entire series has been wonderful, I have so throughly become attached to these characters that they have become like real people to me , to the point that I was stressing in certain scenes worrying about characters such as Cedric and Maggie! I even loved Ash the loyal brave dog and "fleabag" the cat and the comic relief he added to the story. The characters of Dan and Leah were at the same time tough and yet very endearing, and the author has played that fine line extremely well throughout the story!!!

Many have commented on the epilogue and rightly so...it took my breath away! I actually said out loud "nooooooo" when I got to it...I can not help but hope that it was somehow staged for a getaway perhaps(?) As the next book in the series is called "Hope" that is my hope. ;)

In any case I will read anything by this fantastic author with joy!

I saved my review for the conclusion of the series as I have noticed that many people only review the first book and a dribble get on to review the last. I found this dystopian series far more believable than some with just the right amount of action and suspense to keep it interesting. The main characters were all developed in multiple dimensions and mostly likeable. I cared about them. Unlike some readers, I was not disappointed in the ending and I won't spoil it for you. However, I did read a note from the author suggesting a 4th book in the works that did surprise me and I'll be interested to see how that goes. Interesting books.

I purchased the publisher’s package of books 1-3 on Audible. I absolutely love this series. Devon C. Ford has been a refreshing find in the post-apocalyptic genre. His ideas are much more realistic and original. His characters are balanced with the kinds of strenghths and weaknesses to which most of us can relate yet some are extraordinarily exceptional. My greatest disappointment is that the entire series is not on Audible. When are books 4-6 going to be released in Audible, please!

Five stars simply because it is well written, just enough humour, grief, romance and reality to make it believable. Even the science is solid in theory. As a shooter/instructor former contractor who worked with LE/mil/feds and foreign national troops, the firearms and psychological aspects of taking a life are well within norms as well. I would definitely suggest this book series to any and all readers who enjoy SciFi/fantasy/alt reality _ this author has definitely made his way onto my list of top authors in this genre.

The characters are multi-layered and the scenario is reasonable. The action is well written and many details are well-done.

Why did I give it two stars? Simple--some details are non-negotiable and getting them wrong cheapens the whole (by at least two stars in my estimation).

No Glock has EVER had a safety to "flick."

If you only know your weapons based on on-line research, it would be worth a few bucks to pay someone with real-world knowledge to take a read and report the things that make them react like nails on a chalkboard.

Loved this whole series until the final chapter. The people, actions, and activities were realistic and not overdone. The interactions between the different personalities and ideas were believable. There were plenty of surprises to keep it interesting. It was well written and edited.(a rarity in this genre) Drawbacks- 1 ) too short. 2) how does a pollen turn into a virus. I am not a biologist, but that kind of transmutation isn't possible. 3) if both parents are immune, a child would also be immune 4) Hated the epilogue, It slammed the door to sequels and there were some good possibilities that could have been written.

I liked the series and the characters are good. The second and third were a good bit better than the first in my opinion. Only real criticism is that both Glock and Sig pistols do not have an active safety that one can switch on and off... just some technical advice for the editor. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

This author is extremely talented. I get so captivated by each and every adventure that these characters go on I cannot quit reading. In this series their existence is about being good or evil. I am not sure about why there is an epilogue with two more books to go. I have fallen in love with the good characters in this series and the epilogue was heartbreaking. Should have been left out or waited until last book. Just saying! Bummer...

What a great series. I tore through them. A great character spectrum. Not TOO many deus ex machina (you do need a few to move plot along and not have everyone die immediately). I really liked the focus on community and rebuilding a society in the first books. The transition to a more mission oriented story in the later books was believable and justified given the story arc direction. A+, can't wait for Rebellion to come out!

This was an interesting series,it was refreshing to read an end of the world book that didnt include zombies. Intelligent characters and real things that made sense to me. I enjoyed the story line, the ways they gathered together and banded towards one goal. Survival. I will recommend this to my family. Oh family, heres a good read.

Aside from the wrong words in the wrong places being the error of editing or some one else, I love the character s and the story. The imagination knows no bounds. It has a possibility of truth to the otherwise sense of fiction. On the read as a whole it is definitely a page turned with lots of action, drama, suspense, love, loss, humour, etc. Some of everything, packed full of can't waits, to see what happens next. ?

Enjoyed this series immensely. It started out with less character development than I like but I think that was due to the introduction of so many of the key players in the first book. I held on and kept reading and I am very glad I did! Like was stated in other reviews, the epilogue in book 3 will take your breath away. Thank goodness there is a book 4 coming though!

Another well written and developed saga.
The characters evolved as circumstance requires.
Social organization based on community and competence logically prevails.
The distant beginnings and ending of planetary life comes full circle.
Perhaps, an end that may be a beginning.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed reading this series. I was so sad when I got to the end. Please tell me you are writing more books Mr Ford. The story, the characters, the action!!! Everything was great. Not too much of anything. Your words painted a clear picture that had me hooked from the first book to the last. Well done, well done.

After reading and viewing many other apocalyptic stories full of disappointment and awful decision making, I found this to be incredibly satisfying. I've reached book 3 here in under 2 weeks while reading at night and find myself hours in before I know it. Try this series. You will not regret it.

I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

The apocalyptic tale continues in Book 3! Devon doesn't disappoint as he continues the adventures of Dan and his growing group of survivors. As I have said in reviews of the previous books, the characters are so real and the story has twists and turns. Another pay e Turner!!! I'm off to the next book!

Scientists in their cold search for answers could easily condemn us all. That is the underlying premise of this dystopian series. No Zombies just survival against the elements, other survivors and propagation. Well written, interesting characters and great plot. Highly recommend.

Third book of a great series! Probably liked the first 2 books slightly more, only because of the ending. Kind of like comparing a 12 oz t-bone to a lobster-filled pork chop! (for those meat lovers out there). Looking forward to next chapter!

After the ending to book 3 with dead babies, everything these people fought for lying in ruins, how can follow-up book be called "Hope". There was no introduction to this ending, it seemed this author was ready to finish this book and just stuck in this event that didn't even make sense. I spent too much time with this series . My advice would be read something else.

Well written story of the UK after a plague which decimated mankind. I personally do not like serialized stories and this one has had three books to end the story, but a fourth book is in the works. Most of my favorite authors are Brits and this one did not disappoint.
