Fantastic read! Couldn't put it down! Loved the flow of the book; information was imparted naturally and not repeated. The fight scenes got your blood pumping, were easy to visualize, uncomplicated, and realistic for the heroin's abilities.

Great characters, really interesting family and back story, that hopefully will lead to many books in this series. This series truly has a tremendous amount of imagination and rolling in "monsters" from virtually every culture around the world.

Its a great take on urban fantasy, cryptozoology, and is just plain fun. Verity is interesting, though Dominick is a bit more typical brooding love interest/antagonist, at least at first. The Aeslinn mice actually made my laugh out loud. Good story.
Deadline :: Blackout (Newsflesh) :: The Ask and the Answer (Chaos Walking) :: Discovering Strength and Courage Amid Chaos - Walking on Eggshells :: Parasite (Parasitology)

I found the book entertaining and I enjoyed reading it. The main character was interesting enough to hold my attention, but I felt that many of the secondary characters were one dimensional and some the "cryptids" were cliche. The book uses the main character to tell the reader a lot about different paranormal and fantastical creatures but I felt the book didn't do enough to show us. I haven't decided whether or not I will read the next book in the series yet.

"Discount Armegeddon" pulled me in quickly. I laughtd almost immediatly. The heroine has no super powers, just a lot of attitude and good weaponry. The story was fairly standard and a little predictable, but still had enough twists to keep me interested throughout. This is a good, fast read with a sense of humor. I enjoyed the fact that there were no vampires as main characters. (I'm a little tired of vampires.) This could be the start of a good solid series, and I'm going to be waiting for the next book.

"Discount Armageddon" is the first Seanan McGuire book I've read and I am already looking forward to other McGuire books. I have read all of the Newsflesh Trilogy and extra stories that the author wrote under the name of Mira Grant and they are some of my favorite stories of all time.
I love the strong female protagonists that are in all these books and the lighter tone of the Incryptid series. I enjoyed reading about all the different North American cryptids especially the Aeslin mice; the Covenant; the Price family; and Verity's philosophy about the correlation between dancing and combat.
I was glad that I read this on my Kindle because there were so many sections I highlighted.
This was such a fun book to read. I've already ordered the next book in the series - Midnight Blue-Light Special: An Incryptid Novel - and plan on reading the October Daye series next.

I liked this book. Having read similar types of books such as the Mercy Thompson novels, I'm a big fan of this type of writing anyway. The story here is fast-paced and interesting, not a "cookie-cutter" approach at all. I really enjoyed the cryptozoologist approach - it made things a lot more fun.

Smart, sassy, and hilarious. What's not to love? This is a book where the author clearly had a ton of fun writing. The humor and joy shines through on every page. If you're looking for an enjoyable romp with a magnificently witty protagonist, look no further.

I cannot recommend this enough. Mystery, humor, interesting creatures, and a kickass lead. Oh, and talking mice. There are some hilarious turns of phrase.
Seanan McGuire (and her alter ego Mira Grant) is one of my favorite authors, and now I have another favorite book to treasure and reread!

I bought Discount Armageddon because I have enjoyed the author's October Daye books. This is no October Daye, but I was not disappointed either. It was the funniest urban fantasy book that I have ever read, a genuine comic novel, while still having suspense, monsters, danger, gore and all of the other things that uf fans expect with a nice bit of romance tossed in. Verity Price, like Ginger Rogers, can do everything the guys can, and do it backwards and in high heels

Everybody's already said what there is to say about this book. I just wanted to add another five star review. If you're looking for an extremely entertaining, well-written book about interesting characters, this is it.

I bought this because someone said it was funny. And it was. I quite enjoyed the characters, the world building and the host of creatures involved. My only disappointment was book 2 doesn't seem to be out yet.

I have read both of the Newsflesh books written under the pen name of Mira Grant, but this was the first that I have read under her own name, Seannan McGuire. Having loved the Mira Grant books, I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the book quite a bit.

Smart, fast and unpredictable. A great light read with whimsical monsters an enough mystery to keep you turning. Anyone named Verity
Price has to be as tough as "A Boy Named Sue", cause life ain't easy for a girl named Verity.

Its a fun read, I enjoyed all the different cryptids and seeing how they interact with the modern world. It feels like a smart read because there is a lot of biology and zoology, and our heroine really knows her stuff. Lots of action, it pulled me a long and i did not want to stop reading.

Things to love about this UF (with mild romance sub-plot) book:
1. The Aeslin Mice: A tribal community of talking mice that live in a Barbie townhouse in her Sasquatch owned illegal lease apartment in Manhattan. The love food offerings and celebrate every event as a religious holiday with "hail" this and "hail" that. Best new addition to zany UF genre in a long, long time.
2. Verity Price: She looks like Marilyn from the Munsters, but her family is definitively Addams Family meets Edward Gorey. She is a Price, whose family defected from the ultra secretive Covenant society generations ago. The Covenant's ultimate goal is the eradication of anything outside the norm of human. Verity has a cryptozologic degree who happens to like to converse with Gorgons, were like creatures, and Bogeymen while trying to learn their cultural practices and biologic make up. She works in T and A strip joint, but doesn't strip, but does love park-our or free running, and her real passion is Ballroom Dancing competions.
3. Dominic Del Luca: Covenant, Spanish, hottie, who is having an identity crisis: Do all supernatural creatures need to be killed... Can Verity convince him otherwise? How much actual intel does the Covenant have on sentient supes? Are they occluding this info from rookies like Dominic. He can throw a knife very well.
4. All the supporting characters: They all have a story line, their own motives. and do not self-serve Verity, except maybe her best friend and cousin, a cookoo, Sarah who has telepathic abilities.
5. Excellent pace and action. Each chapter has a nice Price quote.
Things not to like about this book:
1. Obviously this is a book one. The romance story line is left open ended at the end, so that might turn off some readers who like a stand alone.
2. This book in many ways is a light weight read. Don't expect any overtly heavy character development or extremely serious story lines. I would contrast this book with Moning's "Fever" series, which this is not. But it is FUN, an easy read, and very entertaining.
I would highly recommend this book if like slightly zany, amusing, and overall entertaining light UF read.
